Nope, nothing on my end either. I just did my 50hr overhaul and got all filters from the dealer. Seemed like the three filters on my 7205 were almost $100? Still need to replace the fuel filter though.

I started running Rotella in my Cub 7205 at the first oil change, 50hrs. Only has 70 hrs on it now but I can tell that the diesel engine seems to start up better in cold temps.

--------------------------------------------------------- Peters, there's probably not too many people on here that have heard of the DH Beaver, much less seen or flown in one. A friend of mine has had a beaver for a few years and recently purchased an Otter, what an aircraft! He runs a sport camp here in Maine. Must have been neat to see them back in their early days (aren't they over 50 yrs old?). It is unbelievable to seen it come down on floats.....Ed

Question would that minehoe fit on a John Deere X475 garden Tractor that already has a JD45 loader on it and you might get better feedback if you mention this product on the Lawn and garden tractor forum.

Thanks for the info Jack - If you say my 1710 should be able to handle the 771 once it is mounted then I'm assuming my main concern now is if the 1720 has the same loader mounting as a 1710. The dealer states it came off a 1720 and the previous owner said it worked fine. I have some pics of the 771 mounting brackets and they have been modified to fit the 1720. The loader is 80 miles away so I could at least ask the dealer to measure some of the main mounting dimensions or I suppose better yet just take the tractor over there and rough fit the loader. I'd sure like to buy a new loader but I haven't found one for under $3,000 so the $1100 price tag on the 771 creates a lot of interest. I'd love to find a 770 loader but parts for a 1710 are just about zero in the salvage yards on the internet or on dealer lots. I do however want the finished loader to run and look right. So the question now is: Do the 1720 and 1710 have the same loader mounts?

On many loaders, you can get an option for quick attach forks. I believe that this is an industry standard mounting specification. So, you can use any of the skid steer attachments that are available for sale or rent.

My NH loader required a special order for the quick attach feature, but it was worth it. I believe that many JD loaders have it as standard.

I use a set of NH 2000# forks. They are expensive on their own, but I got them in a package deal.

The problem mentioned before is that without a Live PTO, the implement drive shaft is directly connected to the drive wheels of the tractor. If you get a bush hog or other heavy rotary cutter up to speed it acts like a flywheel. When you step on the clutch, the "flywheel" effect of the mower will continue to push you forward. This can be dangerous.

There is a device called an over-run clutch that will allow you to stop quickly. It will deliver power to the bush hog, but releases and free-wheels if the tractor is stopped. This solves the danger part of the problem.

But, for convenience, the Live PTO is worth the money. As the other posters have said, it offers advantages and you will like it better. Unfortunately, this option may cause you to buy a larger tractor. Decisions/decisions...

I think that you got a good price. I would not say that you stole it. I bought a brand new TC45 with all of the attachments that you mention and a 758C backhoe and 7ft rear blade for about 29K last September and got 0% financing.

I really like the quick attach bucket and pallet forks. That option was really worth the extra money spent.

I have to wonder how much of a lesson that the NH dealer really learned. I expect that the former TC45 owner did not make out very well.

I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. Good Luck. BTW, mine does not have fan or thermostat problems, but it is good to be on the lookout.

Sounds like you are out of the range of CUT's, and into the standard utility tractor range. A 10-12 foot brush hog will require at least 70 hp and a class 2 hitch. I would recommend a brush hog type of mower as opposed to a finish type of mower, unless your pasture land is very smooth and rock free. The brush hog type of rotary cutters are unaully more durable and handle abuse better than the finish type.

Have you considered the new John Deere 2210 that seems about the right size for your property Starting at $10,200 it is a much better buy than the X500 series. 23HP liquid-cooled deisel, Twin touch two pedal hydrostatic, 4wd, PTO mid 2100;Rear540 and Rops and limited Cat 1 hitch all Standard Features. MID mowing decks avaliable in 54 and 62inch. 4ft.Rottery Cutter and a 620lb.lift capacity loader. That is joystick control.

In my opinion a l3010 would be just a bit to much for your use.I have 65 acres,1/2 mile drive etc. and my 3010 is perfect for everything I need it for.I would look at the
27/29 series for your size lot.

As for the discussion of the gray market tractors - I think that is boils down to this: Yanmar parts are just as available as JD parts for tractors of a comparable age - and whats more, they are by and large less expensive as well. As for putting US tractor dealers out of business - that won't happen as long as their are rich boys out there willing to shell out the bucks for a JD, Kubota, or NH. I needed a tractor, and couldn't justify $15-20k. Thats just down right overpriced. I got a great 16hp diesel 4x4 tractor with a loader for $4500 - and with some ingenuity mounted a $500 MMM. Now I whole-heartedly support the US economy and drive only US cars. But that is a bit more of a competive market.

So... If you know nothing about tractors - then play it safe and spend the $$$ to buy something new from a local reputable dealer of your color choice. On the other hand, those with the inclination to do some of it yourself - find a reputable gray dealer and save some money.

Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn't confuse quality and quality though. I made most of the posts because I was learning something, and many of them would be a lot shorter if I wasn't.

I should say that my hookup is sort of a haywire setup and a PB kit would be preferred. Running the PB flow through a SCV probably cuts the flow a bit and may contribute to heating. The PB flow also probably erodes the SCV orifices a bit and will take some life off the valve.

However, I haven't had any of those problems. My use of the hoe is occasional and light. I don't worry much about the loader valve failing because I'd like to replace it with a 4- control valve model and one with a fast dump feature for the bucket circuit. My hookup does avoid the PB issue if I didn't know whether the hoe valve was PB rated or not.

Scott, checked the three sources we use and none of them offer the numbers of those machines. They were only built for several years and The actual age would have or make no difference or little for resale value or parts replacement.

Power-beyond is just a confusing term. It really refers to an application in an open centered system where there is a down-stream valve (often the 3ph). Working downstream valves may create high pressures over the entire length of the high-pressure line, which includes any upstream valves. Valves rated for PB applications are designed to withstand this pressure. PB valves either have heavy exhaust oil galleys or a separate return line to the sump for exhaust oil.

The confusion comes because many PB valves have two return lines and the one that carries the pump oil is called the PB line. A PB kit usually involves splicing an entire valve assembly into this line to create additional downstream valves. The hookup usually is for something like a hoe that has its own valves and the kit does not have it's own control valve. The kit also has to have a separate hose to reconnect the PB line when the hoe isn't connected.

A 3rd SCV valve is a 3rd control valve section in a loader valve assembly. The assembly may or may not be PB rated. Additional control valve sections can be purchased separately for some assemblies. Hope this helps but I'm not sure if it adds to or reduces the confusion.

I'm guessing that it's similar to the TX in my Ford 1710 with a creeper kit. I'm not sure how much help there's going to be here because most things take a manual and prior TX experience. You might say if the shifter for the 3 TX plus reverse gear is on the steering column or TX top cover to help ID the TX.

Some linkages do have detend balls or other parts that can wear or bend and lock. These often can be repaired without too much disassembly. Some parts are accessible under the top plate, but disassembly shouldn't be attempted without a manual. There are a number of seals that may be damaged and definitely a top-plate gasket. Unfortunately, a bent shifting-fork is a likely candidate, and they can't be replaced without splitting the tractor.

However, some things can be checked. I'd check to see if there's at least 3/4" free-play at the top of the clutch pedal. I'd also note how the clutch feels when it starts engaging. It should come up a bit off the floor before it engages and the feel solid. It shouldn't gallop if feathered.

If the tractor hasn't been moved much, I'd take it out of 4wd and pull forward and reverse a few times. I'd also put the tractor against a tree and in 2wd check to see that only one rear wheel spins (which would indicate that the diff lock and 4wd are disengaged).

If it were in 4wd, I might lift the front wheels with the loader and then try the ranges again. Sometimes axle windup will make engaging or disengaging 4wd or the ranges difficult. However, there shouldn't be much windup when mucking in mud. I'd probably lift the wheels and try it even if it seems to be in 2wd.

Sometimes gunk can lock up the linkage. I would check the external linkage. If I was grasping at straws I might drain and flush the TX and change oil, but that would be a last ditch effort. Hope you weren't steering while the diff-lock was engaged. That could put a lot of stress on the drive train.

Tom, the county road dept. here has one of those on a good sized tractor with lots of counterweights and it does an amazing job of cleaning up brush. I've did quite a bit of research on the weight of different brands of small rotary cutters, and decided that most of them would simply be to heavy for the frame of a compact to suport with that much leverage out to the right side. Really all I'm trying to do is mow grass on the slopes, not clear brush, so I got hold of a used mid mount mower deck from a JD 400 series lawn tractor, I really haven't weighed it, but I doubt it weighs 200 lbs. I don't have a heated farm shop, so It'll be a while before I get started on it, in the meantime any ideas or experience with something like this would be welcome.

When I got my hoe about 4 years ago I had ordered a B60 but received a B600. The models changed over just when the hoe was ordered. The older models were B60 and B70 for CAT I 3ph's and I'm guessing B80 and maybe larger for CAT II tractors. B851 was a current model for CAT II tractors. The numbers generally refer to the max depth at 2' bottoms (60 or 600 equaling a 6' hoe).

From the description, the hoe may predate the B60 etc. series. A call to the company should ID the hoe. Before calling I would look for any model or serial # info on the hoe and note if it has CAT I or II mounts. Measuring the lengths of the boom and stick arms might help.

All 3ph hoes should have a mounting system that stabilizes the hoe and locks down the 3ph. Unless the Kelly mounting system was changed for newer models, there is a plate that U-bolts the drawbar and has mounts for two top-links that run to the hoe frame. If the mounting system with the hoe isn't complete the parts should be obtained. It's very dangerous to operate a 3ph hoe that's not locked down. If the 3ph gets bumped into lift with somebody in the hoe seat, they get smashed between the hoe console and the ROPS.

Talking with a dealer about trading in my 1970 Ford 4500 backhoe. It has served me well over the past 10 years, including all the necessary grading for our new home we just moved into last fall. It is now time for a smaller tractor, so I can get into finish landscaping, brush hogging, fine tuning the driveway, and tilling a garden. He has offered me $4,200 trade in. I guess that's not too bad, considering I only paid $5000 for it back in 92.

Anyway, the particular dealer I am trying to work a trade with has a TC29 on his lot with roughly 350 hours on it. It currently has a Bush Hog FEL and Bush Hog backhoe on it. I'm not interested in the hoe, but he says he will leave the loader on it and let me have it for $12,000. I can buy a brand new TC29 from him for $12,450, but it has no FEL.

I figure I am saving roughly $3000 if I go with the used unit. On the other hand, I'm thinking $12,000 isn't that great of a price for this tractor with 350 hours. Especially since the FEL seemed undersized. (I'm kinking myself for not paying closer attention to the specific model FEL installed) I looked it over, and it appears to me that the backhoe has never been detached. That tells me that the pto drive should be virtually new.

I initially went to this dealer looking at grey market tractors, but I just wasn't impressed. He certainly had a nice selection of over 50 on the lot. I wasn't planning on trading in the 4500 either, until I fell in lust with the Boomers. I don't intend to finance this tractor, and am somewhat limited on funds. I can cover the differnce on either, but can't justify adding a new loader to the new TC29 at this time.

What would you fellas do? Go new and wait on the loader, or go with the used unit? Which is the better deal?
