3/10's of a mile......hmmmm 'bout 1500 feet more or less

if your drive is 10 ft wide, and you use a 47" snowblower on a Deere X585 that would take about 3 passes, 20' would take 5 or 6..

Plus...the x585 is small enough you may be able to use it on your sidewalks...

maybe that helps with your perspective

you are not compareing apples to apples with the models and brands you specified.

The Deere 4115 would be more in line with the Kubota 2400

Just had a few more thoughts on the subject..

The most logical way to attack this problem is to follow the flow of power......

start with the drive...The end that hooks to the motor.
Check for worn gears, drive couplers etc.....

Next, spin the cable by hand...on the tractor...does it feel free? Spin it with a varibale speed drill while hooked to the tach head...does it function properly??

Last, if the first two items check out..yup...it's the tach head. But just for the heck of it, try spraying some kind of solvent inside the light socket in the tach head. I would try Stoddard Solvent. Maybe that will clean things up enough to get things working again...

Besides...if it is the head..what have you got to lose??

Dear Jim, the point I was trying to convey is that while most manufacturers recommend that grass be dry not everyone can mow when it is, myself included. Wet grass does cause clogs. As far as RPM goes, this is a real problem. Many homeowners mow when the grass is very high using too low a cut. This causes the blades to slow down resulting in a poor cut, and grass clumping on the lawn. Some people think that by running their engine slower they save fuel so they can mow longer, but at the same time the deck never reaches full speed and the cut is poor with a lot of cake.

Other factors are the type of grass that you cut, diferent fescues mow differently: I can mow St. Augustine lower and faster than perennial rye or bluegrass without fear of build-up. The reason for this is as you pointed out, their normal moisture contents, are different. Also, some weeds commonly found in lawns, when dry to the touch, are very wet inside.

If my customers' grass is over four inches I "stripe" mow, first indexed cut is at three inches, the second indexed cut is at almost a 45 degree angle to the first pass, at two and a half inches. Striping the lawn uses a bit more time and fuel but it is easier on the mower, disperses the clippings better, causes much less cake, and looks good.

I know you are sincere in finding a cure for the problem and I thought that by offering some alternatives you would have better luck. I did not mean to imply that you were not competent.

Good answers Art........ket me add a little more.

Due to the fact that hyd. systems have a much greater volume of fluid to handle...alot more....the filter medium must be large enough to handle greater amounts of forign matter and still maintain enough flow to allow the system to work....

also, service intervals on hyd filters are usually much longer.

I'm in a town with a Kubota dealer who doesn't like to cut his prices much. As a result, I'm looking for a used BX, but there really aren't many out there. But I did find one and wanted to see if you guys think it's a good or bad price. Garage-kept BX2200, year old, 150 hours with rear blade for $9,500. The owner said he'd get a trade-in for about $8,500. He want's to trade up. Seems to be $1,500-$2,000 off what I'd pay new and maybe he'd deal. The new prices are all over the map. Wes

I have been thinking now for about a year on what size machine to by,so finally its going to be a 40d,I ike the hydro foward and reverse pedals instead of the rocker type on the 33 and down.I got a price on a 40d with a QA heavy duty Fel(16a),grill guard,remote hydrs,758 with 18" bucket,R4 Tires filled,and a set of pallet forks(28500 + tax).Is this a good price?and do these guys deal like car dealers?

Bob S. labeled the only thing we have found to go wrong there but a couple of years have passed and a switch could be bad. Don't look for a hydralic problem until you check out the electrics. Bob to answer your problem you are headed in the right direction on your steering problem.

You very well could, leaving your front end to try to hold the extra weight that you can lift,it might not have been designed for and your loader would be slower.

I had the same problem on my L3710DT. The arms just wouldn't open wide enough for my Rhino SE6 or Pyramid box. The dealer's mechanic come out and removed the arms from the sleeve, cut about two inches off the back of , then reinserted. With pins removed they now swing all the way to the tires at any height. These arms were not telescoping.

I have the standard NH toolbox on the back of my TC25D. the cover is warped and it does not shut properly. Anyone else deal with this. I thought about warming it with a propane torch and bending the cover in a convex configuration such that when the latch is closed it will seal better.

First I would start looking for any fuel leaks. Check all the lines as they go to and from the pump to the injectors. Do you have a lack of power when running?

I'd sure ask a dealer before operating it. Generally, you can measure the current with a VOM to double-check the alternator light. Most times an over-heated diesel will smoke black. Low oil pressure is another story and really something you want to know about.

Decompression levers are very handy for positioning the engine to make timing adjustments without having to work against compression or removing an injector or glow plug. The way they're used for cold starting is to engage the starter with the compression released on and then turn it off after a moment.

The starter motor runs a bit faster with the compression released and then inertia gives a power stroke or two at a higher rmp than the battery alone would drive it. As Art says, it's very handy with a low battery. However, excessive cranking if the engine doesn't fire washes oil off the cylinder walls, dilutes engine oil etc. The same is true with or without compression release. I don�t need one on my Ford but I�m sure happy my chainsaw has one. I�m left-handed and there are no left-handed chain saws. I need all the starting help I can get.

If you are still looking for one, there is one available on ebay. I have seen this one in person and it is as close to new condition as one would find. Type in "John Deere 655" and she'll come right up. Auction ends september 25th. If by chance you miss it email the owner at steve.l@prodigy.net. He may still have it as it looks like he has had some trouble finding a buyer. Hope this helps.
Only thing you will want to verify is if the drive shaft, mounting brackets etc. will be the same for the 655. This unit came off of an 855. Shafts and brackets through Deere are SALTY! ....just a word of advise.

I have not tried Valvolines Synthetic. I have owned Volvos over the years and have had bad performance with Valvoline oil. I find that for some reason the oil burns more readily than other oils in their 4 cylinder. I had a few bottles in the barn and decided to use them up on the last change in my wife Volvo. Same problem as normal, I lost a quart before the last change. I went back to Castrol synthetic.
