Thanks jt and Farmhouse. With either product would you need to put some sort of drip edge behind the bottom of the vertical siding and then up over the top of the horizontal board to prevent water from going inside? Thanks. Also I'll try to put a photo here if I can figure out the process.

hey mrethics -- have you seen the mid-mount blade for the X-4xx/5xx's? It's like what road graders have. I already committed to the front blade, but inquirying minds want to know.

Cutter, I'm not sure of your location but by the postings I would say not in the South. However, I'm building a barn at the present time and I'm having the plumber put in an outdoor shower. It may never get hot enough in your location but I used to live in Fairfield County in Connecticut and we had some of those days where one would have been nice. I'm certainly going to use one in East Texas.

When i mow with a LP FDR25-84 or the 54" deck on a X595, the dirt and grass clippings combine to build-up on the deck underside. Sometimes it gets very thick, and impedes the exit chute; it gets almost brick-like hard. Other times grass clumps will build up and eventually spit out. I suspect the moisture in the crud will also rust the deck out eventually.
So i've seen a graphite coating at dealers and TSC/F&F type stores. Some types are just a graphite powder+binder, others have the graphite in a suspension of acrylic that is supposed to adhere better. The labels claim benefits for plow blades, etc. Can anyone comment on whether this stuff works for mowers to improve the out-flow of clippings?

I own a new 4110 which I ordered with a power beyond kit. I have a rear mount snowblower to put on it with a hydraulic shoot rotator. My question is what type of control valve do I use? Open center or closed center. The dealer says the 4110's are open center, which to me means when the SCV is in the resting position the hydraulic pump in pumping fluid through the valve freely. I don't understand how the fluid gets to the power beyond port? Can anyone help me understand the system?

I had wondered about that semi-synthetic N/H oil myself. The dealer told me the same thing about the hydraulic oil I changed to and the only thing I could differentiate between the OEM and the new product was the fact that it is multi-vis. It did prevent the cold weather symptoms however. I plan on switching the Kubota over to full synthetic at 100 hours, which will probably be this fall. I believe the break-in should be complete by then.

Got my First Choice finish mower. Went together easily, assembly took approx 1 hour. Mower is well constructed and has a nice solid powdercoat finish. My first try cutting down 4-6 inch lawn grass went fantastic. The rear discharge mower easily and evenly distributed the clippings. The air tires rode easily over my rough lawn. Ran it with a 26hp Iseki TU220. Would be happy to order one for anyone interested.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what he does with the extra mismatched tires but now that you mention it he said some buyers purchase extra wheels and tires so they can have a full set of both. That may be just a marketing ploy to get buyers to get an extra set of wheels and tires. The reason I liked the setup was to avoid the possibility of tearing up the lawn with bar tires and still have the traction of the rear for wet grass. We do have some small hills to mow but they wouldn't require the 4 wheel drive when a little wet. If it's soft enough to need 4 wheel drive it's way to wet to mow. Really the only time we will need the 4 wheel drive might be to plow a little snow but it would be nice knowing you had it if you needed it.

As far as the PTO, no he didn't use the clutch. I knew there had to be something he wasn't doing right. We are supposed to talk to him later this week so I'll let him know that he had better read the owners manual. In the mean time I going to check around for other local dealers. We're located in southeastern Ohio so if anyone has any suggestions it might help .

Denny, I sell used equipment in Northern California. With all the attachments, especially the hoe, the price is very reasonable. This comment assumes it is in good condition of course. I would suspect you could buy it and use it for years and turn around and sell it for what you have invested. That is one of the great things about tractors. The 950 is a nice size tractor. Best of luck on your decision.

I have an 855 with 70A loader in very good condition. It also came with a 60" belly mower. It has around 800 hours on it and it has mainly been used for mowing the yard (even though it has ag tires). I'm looking to buy a larger tractor and I don't have any idea as to the value of this one. Also, am I better off trading vs. selling it outright? BTW, I'm in Central IL. Thanks.

Well, I went to pick up the 425 and guy was very busy that day. After waiting for two hours for him to show up he fianally made and explained he wasn't sure he wanted to sell it any longer. I thought great he knows what he has all of the sudden. When inquire as to why he would make me go through all this trouble and not sell it to me..he said he felt wrong about selling it to me in the condition it was in so he would sell it me but not for the agreed up $700 BUT $300. as is. Well this no brainer just got easier. I loaded that tractor up and got out there like I stole it...because I did at that price. Within and hour of getting it home I had it running. Tomorrow well see what it can do.

Tom, I do my calculations as follows:
80 X 160 = 12,800 sq.ft.
12,800/12 = 1067 cu.ft. for 1 in. of material
1067/27 = 39.5 cu.yds.
39.5/21 = 1.88 transfers (truck with trailer 80,000lbs)
The transfer can carry 25 tons and still meet the 80,000lb gross load limit. Sand weighs 1.2 tons per yard. This varies somewhat depending on the moisture content in the sand. 25 divided by 1.2 yields 20.83 yards and I round up to 21.
I hope this makes some sense. I do these calculations almost on a dialy basis and have gotten to where I can do them in my head and be pretty accurate.

I don't often deal with the two-cylinder Yanmars, but I suspect the oil switch is similar. On the 3-cylinders, the switch turns the dash light on at pressures under about 14psi. Also remember that the threads are very close to 1/8" pipe...but they are not. They are British Pipe (someone can expand on this as I only know that they are darn close but different). Best to get the Yanmar switch as it is cheap and correct. If you are in a hurry and want to pick something up at the local parts store, Standard Brand PS-171 works perfectly.

Newbie here to tractors and diesel engines. When do you need a block heater? I live in New Jersey, our winters vary from mild, a few snow storms, to getting dumped on. We will get periods of cold weather, below 0 for sometimes for a week or so, but most times temperature are above 0. I plan on using the tractor for snow removal and will have it parked in my shed, no heat, and on my driveway when I expect a big storm. I know heating the engine is better for a diesel as far as wear of the parts go, so do I need one? I think Kubota has one for about $100-$150.

If you can use a yanmar, similar to john deere, then price equipment on john sevier hwy. may have what you need for a real good price. I'm about to buy one there myself. It's advertised in the bargain mart.

Lynn: I just converted 10-acres into a square plot and figured the time to drive 6' strips @ 4-mph. Overlap and turnaround adds time onto this sort of crude estimate, and minimizing turnaround is something I've gotten much better at with a bit of experience..

Generally, I go around the perimeter until I have enough space swing wide and mow end to end. If I keep going around the perimeter I end up with very short rows in the centre and then have to turn around more often. When I first started grading and snow-blowing drives I found myself doing one pass and then backing up all the way to start another. I remember thinking �boy this isn't too smart, I'm driving a lot while the tractor isn't doing any work.' I figured out how to cut out turnaround places for myself. I think that coming up with patterns for working areas is almost an art form and most people eventually come up with what works best for them. It is something to think about though.

I finish mow about 2-acres over two properties. Each are cut up by buildings and landscaping and break down into a fair number of irregular plots for mowing. My 1710 probably weight over 3,000 lbs. with fuel, an empty loader and me. Even with turf tires my wife comments about the tracks if I drive on the lawn much. I also have to avoid tight turns even in 2wd and when it's fairly dry or the front wheels will tear the turf.

In practice, I mow with a 36" riding mower and don't have a mower of any kind for the tractor. The riding mower certainly is easier on the lawn and probably is faster than the tractor would be since it doesn't leave near as much trimming to do. Trailering the riding mower to our camp is much easier than driving the tractor 10 miles on the highway too.

Tom: My old Ford 1710 has PS so I guess my interest is academic, but I am curious about how the actuating system on your conversion works. The factory system on my Ford uses end thrust of the steering wheel shaft to actuate pressure on one side of the sector gear or the other. If I understand, the way it works is that the PS keeps working as long as you keep turning the steering wheel. I don't know if a converted system works the same way.
