I have a Yanmar YM2000 tractor. After engine warmup I notice an oil leak which appears to be coming from the oil sender switch.

Is the remedy to replace the switch? If so, is there a special procedure to do this? Is a replacement switch available?

My home has had a geo-thermal system for about 15 years, It has caused almost no trouble, and the bills are very cheap.

I do not have a loop system, but it could be plumbed that way. At the time of instalation, the contractor just hooked the discharge into a field tile. If I remember correctly, some regulations were put in place a few years ago, and It is not legal to do it that way now days, but older sytems like mine were grandfathered.

I have no idea if a loop system is more efficient than thye open system. I think it was an enviromental concern that lead to the regulations.

One benefit of these types of systems is the abundant supply of hot water they create. I plumbed in my old hot water heater, along with a torage tank wrapped with inulation. Now, I have 160 gal. of hot water. Enough to wash a car in the garage in Jan. and still have enough left for a shower when I'm done.

Way back when Hector was a puppy, the standard wisdom was to run 25,000 miles between oil changes. Mobil even printed that on the can. The semi's can along to provide the benefits of syn's but with normal drain intervals and reduced cost. A full synthetic was terribly expensive in relative terms 30 years ago. It was 3 bucks a quart when 4 bucks an hour was a livable wage. But I am sure I am not breaking any news to you boomers out there.

I'd guess that a composition edge that won't mess up the surface of an asphalt drive more be more readily available for a front blades as well--if that's an issue.

I use a blower on our gravel drive and a neighbour's asphalt drive to take out the birm the highway plows leave across the foots of our drives and to cut down on how much he has to walk behind his big walk-behind blower. I don't take my blower on his drive unless there's snow pack on it because I worry about the blower's skid shoes messing up the sealer coat. I don't know how much of a worry it should be but I'd just as soon not experiment and make a mess. I believe that most plow truck blades around here have composition edges.

Thanks folks. If I can take Murf's idea of an automated position control as a good metaphor then I'd conclude that draft control doesn't power down and does float up. That's the way I'd expect it to work. Now I can figure out why my repair manual doesn't seem to describe it like that--but I promise to do it silently.

The automated hitch is an idea I also had but didn't know how far the comparison could be pushed. I guess the part in my manual called the 'plunger' is my hand on the lever. An earlier very brief description from somewhere might be taken more like an automated loader valve and I knew that conclusion wouldn't be right.

Messy as draft-control might be, and certainly this discussions as well, I hope some people formed better ideas about how hitches work. For a time in my early days of tractoring, I thought that lowering my box scraper to the ground with the 3ph and then extending the hydraulic top-link applied down-pressure. In my case, simple descriptions read when I had very little experience led to simple mindedness. Simple and brief isn’t always adequate.

I think we've done pretty well here and maybe a few people will avoid the misconceptions I held for some time. But it would be good if I kept my meanderings about the relationships among parts more to myself. This Board has been very good for a long time at giving people with various orientation room to follow them. Participants also have been good at recognizing when following their own orientation becomes self-indulgent and knowing when to stop. Stopping is here and now for me and I hope I haven’t run the sign.

Well there you are. I remember the fun parts of restoration too and that can certainly be a worthwhile end in itself.

Who knows I might get back into it myself. Even you wife is talking about building an equipment shed next year. She wants implements out of the yard and something better to look at than my 14' x 25' arctic shelter tent that now serves as a shed. What I'd get out of it is an actual shop 'cause I really can't do any serious mechanics now.

Well, I think I even know where a basket-case of a Brit Bike is. Wonder if I still have any shop manuals and if could find all my Whitworth tools? Maybe I'd even have cause to tinker with my father-in-law's South Bend lathe. Yes, I remember the fun too and hope you have a bunch of it.

See how well I read I did not catch it was 2 wheel drive. I was thinking all were 4x like the 955. Yes a little lower than that would be better you do not want to get stuck. 3000+ in parts and untold hours of work will give you a tractor worth maybe 9K retail or 7.5 whole sale.

I guess they caught the mistake on the web page as the picture has changed. For the PTO protector they had a picture of a heavy duty face shield and chest protector like those used in the bomb squad.
It was certainly worth a chuckle, I wonder if someone caught it for the joke.

I need to sell my J.D. 4300. It has only 160 hrs, 4wd,hydro, turf tires, 6ft. belly mower, grill guard and loader valve. This tractor is getting all transmission upgrades including entire hydro transmission and differential. This tractor is in showroom condition. This will make someone a very nice tractor for the money. I will sell this unit to the first $14,200.

The clumps you are talking about are probably because you have rye grass or tall fescue in your grass mix. These grasses root deeply which is their advantage (you'll notice it's probably all you have left) The better idea would be to aerate or use a verticutter (thatching machine) to rough the ground up seed with a rye blend or tall fescue blend.

I'm assuming you don't have an irrigation system so anything with blue grass would be a waste of money since it doesn't survive drought very well.

Use a starter fertilizer and then roll your seed with an infield pro or riding tractor (anything with knobby tires)
to press the seed in. Try to water if you can.

Hey Tom, I see what you mean. I wonder if all drive heads are similiar. The drive head on my 650 was a right angle drive. The flat piece of cable went into a gear that turned another gear that was 90 degrees to the first. The second gear had a small shaft that went into the block just below the water pump. It's possible that this small shaft could break off and fall in the engine, but the gear it was pressed on was too big to fit in the hole. Just my random thoughts and observations.<br>

Well I found the problem. I disconnected the second cylinder on the bucket and gave it a slight tug and the whole thing cam apart in my hand. The cylinder shaft was destroyed at the end and the aluminum plunger looked like a pretzel. So I've ordered a new cylinder. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I'm in the process of restoring a '47 Farmall A. Having no IH dealers nearby, I started searching the net for ones that will do business by mail. I noticed White's ad on this board, and e-mailed them. I received a reply e-mail the next morning; after calling Ken the parts guy, he faxed me a page from the parts book showing the assembly I'm working on (rear differential seals, in this case). This saved me from ordering the wrong parts, and, he had everything I needed in stock. I ordered on Monday, and got them UPS on Wednesday. Excellent!

I have purchased a used Mitsubishi D2350 FD 4X4 4 cylinder diesel compact tractor. I am looking for body parts for this tractor and am having a great deal of difficult in finding them.
