A good question here Mark, let me straighten some things out fropm Tom's post. While using the draft control you drop you lift lever all the way to the bottom and adjust the depth with the draft control. That is the proper way to adjust your depth. It is very easy to use with a boxblade and works very good to the point that you can't beat the level you will have when done. Like with any other grading tool don't be a hog as you won't get to where you need to go, just a little all the way just like with a dozer. Getting a little more indepth and I haven't followed the compact tractors but on some the draft control doesn't work fast or sensitive enough to make a difference. Our big farm tractors run at less than a 7% load change with adjustments made by the seconds, some competition runs a 20% load change for it to moniter which at that point you have lost 20% of your pulling power often to late and you would be spinning your tires.

Mark, I've plowed snow without and with draft control on a three point hitch tractor. Go with the front blade. It's still not perfect but a lot better than the alternatives. Different things you might try if you have part of your setup now. Lenghten the top link to roll the blade back on the skids to raise your cutting edge height. I often tell people to shorten it to keep a snowblower out of the stones until they develop a base, works the same going the other way.

There are some manufacturers of stone buckets which are made from solid round steel tubes with a recess in the rear to hold the stones while picking more. The problem with them is the initial weight of them to begin with in the 500 to 600 lb range. They work excellent for the stone and work well for up rooting honeysuckle and the likes on hedge rows.

I have a set of clamp-on forks for my 4100. Even though the loader is rated for 900#, the forks are only usable to the 400# range because the tractor gets real squirrelly (bouncy)with that kind of weight suspended way out there. Also consider the concentration of all the weight on two narrow portions of the bucket. That much weight on the forks might warp the cutting edge of the bucket and give your tractor a smiley face. 3PH forks are not all that much more expensive then a set on heavy-duty front clamp-ons. That kind of weight should be on the back of the tractor, assuming your machine is rated for that sort of load.
A forklift is little more than a tractor with the seat and steering wheel on backward.

My next dilemma is the deck size, 54" vs. 62". I want 62"(bigger is better syndrome) and my wife wants 54". She does most of the around the house mowing and I use a finishing cutter for the open areas. It seems to me that the 62" extends further out from the width of the frame of the tractor, so, when you trim around trees and beds, the wheels of the tractor won't get in the way, where the 54" deck, is same width of the X595 and it would prevent close cutting against beds and trees. Any thoughts.

I do pretty much the same thing but use an air nozzle from an air tank. Sure is surprising how fast a rad screen can clog. I've heard that some people have to blow off the rad several times a diy while brushing to keep their tractors from over-heating. I sort of recall that blowing out the cooling fins on alternators occasionally is a good idea.

The conditions I work in aren't usually that dusty. Even so, I used to think that knocking out the air-cleaner dust bowl every 10 hours, cleaning the filter every 100 hours or changing it every year was excessive. I stepped on an old filter element once and mashed it. I had blown it out not that many hours before changing it and was surprised to find that the element pleats were packed with sand that you couldn't see before it was mashed. I now follow the maintenance routines for the air cleaner. I think I blew out the rad screen about a month ago and was surprised the other day to find a good layer of something like cottonwood fluff. I think I stuck the tractor's nose into the bush the other day. Some operations can deposit a lot of junk in a short time, so checking frequently is a good idea even if the tractor isn’t complaining.

Guess I'll plead guilty for getting this off-topic. I indulged myself with two small rants yesterday and Murf combined responses to both here. The rants probably didn't deserve individual responses. Back to blocks: We don't know if the Glenn was dealing with a high water table or not. It also sounds like the foundation is already built, so my comments about structural type may be irrelevant.

I guess my point is that if the structure is subject to a high water table and frost, then another type structure might be less expensive and have fewer problems. Floating structures work OK here, and I'm almost certain that our township offices are slab on grade. Murf's point about utility hookups is well taken. It's not that you can't do it successfully, but that it has to be done differently than for structures with basements. However, under codes you don't have much of a choice, residences have to be on footings ( probably so some future owner who wants a basement can dig out the crawl space). Codes have to do with planning as well as with structural integrity.

We were considering using block walls for a basement walk-in. It would have been on a reinforced 6" slab over 2" foam and aggregate. The first course would be set over rebar studs set on the slab. Block-lock would be used ever few courses and cavities would be motor filled and rebar reinforced. 2" foam would be used outside the walls. That was the design recommended by a building tech and is probably how I'd do it if I had to build basement walls.

The water table at our house is lower than at our camp. The house has a block foundation. There are plenty of cracks in it from frost damage, but the cracks haven't moved for years. Water would come into the basement easily if the soil near the foundation becomes saturated. Eaves toughing cured the summer water problem and hopefully re-grading work this summer will cure the spring run off problem. However, the walls aren't sealed and I probably wouldn't seal them. I think improving drainage is an easier solution to water problems than sealed foundation walls. They’ll probably stand for decades longer—cracks and all.

I agree the TC35D is easy to fall in love with. But I would take another look at the Class II Boomers (TC29D,TC30 and the TC33D) they are smaller than the TC35D and probably as cheap or cheaper than the Kubota L3010.

Don't be discourged and be patient. It took me 7 months and 38 dealer/seller visits to find what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. One thing is for sure sticker shock for compact tractors is ALIVE AND WELL IN MICHIGAN. Don't be afraid to look at low hour "honey" tractors without a front end loader and then put on a new loader as I did.

I don't know if I am the one to answer this question, but I have owned both and currently own a 60" rear discharge. There are members with better experience than I with only 2 points of reference.
The main advantage of the side discharge as I see it is ability to blow leaves of grass to one side or into a grass catcher.
The main advantages of the rear discharge are even distribution of clipping and the ability to cut thicker higher grass (less clogging). With mulching blades there is no need to collect clippings.

I looked into it and timber frame construction, but opted for insulative form construction with regular stick frame. The insulative form construction allows for a stronger structure than steel and better insulative values. It is a technique that you can easily do your self also.
The site for the blocks that I used is below. There are a number of copies of this block now but this is still the best engineered.
Another option and site you many want to look at is Viceroy.com. They will send you a kit for all the materials for the house with the walls panelized.

I have a 220 and am considering a slip scoop. With no down pressure capability is the 220 able to use the slip scoop effectively? I was hoping to be able to so some modest digging and back dragging?

Anyone out there with a used hydraulic slip scoop?

I bought Befco H40-60 flail mower on Kubota B2410. The gearbox threads for filler plug were stripped; when checking the gear lube the plug came loose with my fingers. The warranty repair was slow and required several phone calls to get the parts to my dealer.
I have turf tires and the mower does not lift the grass to cut behind the tires to the same length as the other areas.
20-20 hindsight - wish I had paid the difference and bought one of the other two options.
Counter rotation / reverse rotation is standard on Befco. I think forward rotation MIGHT do a better job on the wheel tracks.
The flail mower does not cut the same as a 'finish mower', but it does chop (mulch) the clippings and spread them over the cut area.
Also, remember that any rear mounted mower is much different to use than a mid mount mower.
