Toddh, actually the blades should swing very freely; all the way around until they touch the other blade. Dirt, grass, etc. build up on them sometimes, so I check mine periodically, clean any debris out, etc. so they can swing freely. And of course, you should check to make sure they stay tight, but I'm afraid most of us are a little neglectful in that regard. I recently took mine off to sharpen them and found I could loosen the nuts very easily with one hand and a 15" crescent wrench. I'll bet I remember to check them more often in the future. I don't have a torque wrench for that kind of torque either, but I have a 425 ft./lb. rated impact wrench that's been able to remove any I've tried so far. But if you get about a 3' or 4' piece of pipe for a cheater bar, you won't hurt those bolts.

Thanks guys, feel better already. I had her pretty well dismantled this weekend, as far as the tin goes. I took all panels off, degreased the entire rig, blasted the tin, primed and repainted. Only the fenders left to paint. Whew, that's a busy weekend.

What is the solvent for New Holland paints? Everything I've tried, including lacquer thinner, mineral sprits, even gasoline, to clean my brushes won't touch it. The paint (New Holland Blue Acrylic 9613386DS) contains Xylol, Toluol and Petroleum Distillates. Will a Napata or some other solvent do the trick?I suppose New Holland Thinner is an option but I'm not thinning to spray, just clean-up. Thanks for any help.

It to bad your New Holland dealer can not be totaly honest with you. He is required to do all warranty work presented to him. (if he is have a memory deficiancy in this area he should consult his dealer policy manual) Also as far as warranty rate paid by New Holland it is the same as the dealers posted shop rate if he has done his paper work right.

I am sure that Woods makes good products. But what I wrote intially is correct. The sharper the blade the better it will cut. Take your machette out and dull the blade if you don't agree. A flat a long the edge of the blade will only use more energy to cut. Dual angles rather than a flat on the blade may keep the edge from damaging but the key is having the correct temper in the blade not techniques that allow the manufacturer to provide inferior steel blades.
A blade which is too hard could split if it hits an object. I have seen this happen. Even if a small piece of metal split off the blades could cause unbalance and this could do considerable damage. Rather than hardening the steel and risk liability many manufactures prefer to use softer steel. It is easier to machine, bend and grind. It also does not require a costly tempering step. Naturally the soft blade will not hold a good edge and the edge will roll over when struck. It is easier to sharpen as the soft steel cuts well, but it will not hold an edge.
If tempered correctly the steel can have both hardness and ductility but this requires tempering skill and quality control on the steel. The tempering must be done after the blades are bent and machined.

I just got price from a dealer for a 5' York rake (York brand). Come with wheels and integral grader blade. He quoted me $1,050. Is this a good, or at least reasonable, price for this? I don't have a lot of use for this, i.e. not commercial, but I will be putting in a lawn and will be maintaining a gravel drive in the future. Is this the best bang for the buck or is it overkill? thanks - Norm

Just reach under the tractor from the left side, slide the collar back that is around the locking connector to the PTO stub from the transmission of the tractor (under the seat). This allows the shaft to slide off the splines.

I think that variations would complicate applications where re-bar is used, but I don't know if building codes would apply. However, I guess I should figure some of this out before trying to get a permit for a bathhouse at our camp. I've got a much better grasp of electrical codes than building codes. Maybe there's a 'building codes made simple' book. What I do know is that I'll have to mix the concrete using water from a not very productive dug well, or truck it from a river. I can just see myself with the work half done and a mixer full of half-wet concrete and then the well goes dry. Yikes, I don't even want to think about it. I'll have to be really fine with the footings trench, or slab-on-grade leveling. Wasting concrete here could be more than just a cost aggravation.

I am new enough to this board that I don't know how it used to be. I think the way the jave script works is just fine. When I want to read a post, it pops up. If I want it bigger, I enlarge it. When I am done reading or replying to it, I close it. I am a firm believer in Microsoft products, they are designed to work together and compliment each other. Therefore, Internet Explorer is the only browser I would have considered and did install, when I built my new computer last November. Just my 2 cents worth. Mark

Will you need a tractor to mow or otherwise do work around your 10 acres? Probably not, it sounds like you just have a small lawn and the rest is wild hillside?
Except for the part about excavating the 60 yards, I think a very small compact tractor would be great. I'm thinking Kubota BX2200 or JD4100 for example. They would be reasonably kind to your septic field and have lower CG than bigger machines. It's too bad that it is so hard to find big garden tractors with loaders, and that the new ones with loaders are as much or more than a BX2200. Because once you get the hole dug, a big garden tractor would be super. From the MSRP on the Cubcadet web site, it looks like $13,800 with fel is a good deal, but it looks like a bigger heavier machine. And it is a gear unit, which will not be as easy for precise fel work as a hydro unit. Although you will get used to it. The 7200/7205 are smaller and maybe better for your septic and hillside concerns. For sure you would lose the sales tax and then at least the $2000 you suggest. Plus the cost of tire ballasting and operation costs. I guess I would buy the brand that has the best resale value if I was for sure going to resell it. Around here that would be Deere. There are no used BXs yet, but I bet one would have high resale value, better than the Cub. Around here a new BX2200 with 60" mower deck and fel is about $12400 plus tax. You might not need the mower deck but if it's a lot cheaper bundled with the new unit then you probably should buy it for resale sake. Lastly, don't give up on buying a good used machine, they are always out there. It took me a while but I found mine. -Don M

I did in fact accidentally bump my 3ph into lift while my Kelley B600 was mounted. It took about a minute to wonder why the engine was throttled up and to realize I was hearing the open relief valve. With the top-links that are used as stabilizers, properly adjusted, the hoe doesn't move at all and the relief valve opens. I believe the force would pull the draw bar up, which would distribute the force among the lift arms, the rear of the cases and the forward drawbar mount. The mount can be convenient. By simply removing two top-links, the hoe can be lifted with the 3ph. 3ph hoes sit low and far back from the tractor compared to frame mounts. The hoe bucket usually drags when trailering the hoe or when going up steep hills. It's very easy to remove the stabilizers to lift the hoe. I don't know how this compares with other mounts.
An operator does have to take care not to bump the 3ph into lift. However, the way I have the hoe hydraulics plumbed, neither the 3ph nor the loader works when the hoe hydraulics are active. I bumped my 3ph into lift when I released the hoe hydraulics to use the loader.

I have 10 hrs on my DK35.They had a recall on the Kioti loader.The bucket was slamming against the frame in the curled up position,they came out and fixed it when I wasnt home.Now the bucket has stops on it where you cant curl it up past the level position...which is the flat on the ground position!!!!!!I dont know if you have ever worked one but if you cant curl it up you loose alot of whats in the bucket,anyway I took off the stops. They said it would eventually make the seals leak on the cylnders and make the hydraulic cylinders oval.I marked it so I know when to stop and it doesnt hit the loader frame.The tractor is nice but I think the 3504 is probably the same except for the styling.I dont need a light to tell me I set the brakes or directional signals to hang a left turn but it might be nice for other people!!

How small s small? The 1/8" pellets could be earth worms excrament. The worms will surface if the soild is damp. If this is the case your pasture is in better shape than mine.

David, I think (not sure) that they're using the same manual for the 2910 as they already had for the 2710, and that would be the reason the toolbox is mentioned. However, with the better seat (adjustable suspension) on the 2910, they had to move the toolbox out of there. On the 2710, the tail light ground wire was attached to a bolt directly under the toolbox, so I removed the toolbox to get to it and ran my ground wire for the auxilliary lights to the same ground. The hot wire was just to the right of that. I'd say to look for two wires coming from toward the front of the tractor taped together with only one wire going on towards the rear and when you remove the tape you'll have the hot wire you're looking for.
