I'm seriously considering a 1993 Ford 1620 diesel 4x4 compact tractor with a 60 inch belly mower, Sims cab, front loader with a 60 inch bucket, turf tires and 1540 hours for $13,000. Any advice? Thanks, Jim<br>

Kevin, have you looked at Kubota's own web site - the link below? It pretty well explains the current model numbers but some of the older ones are not mentioned. Of course, I have the same problem as you with John Deere and New Holland model numbers, too.

I did forget to mention the implements are NH brand. My salesman said that 3rd party implements would on average be a little cheaper, so he estimated the NH implements.

I have a 790 with a #70 JD loader w/ 60" bucket. Does anyone know if JD or the aftermarket manufacturers sells a toothbar for this bucket? Any recommendations?

JeffM, as Roger said, I like your assessment of the 3 major brands; think you hit it pretty well on the head.

And Glenn, nostalgia is great at times, but thank goodness I have a Kubota with hydrostat, power steering, hydraulic 3-point, front end loader, ROPS, canopy etc., etc. instead of that hand cranked 2-cylinder gasoline powered (1938?) John Deere that I started my tractoring on when I was a kid. LOL

Hello All. Has anybody bought one lately? I'm looking at a used small 3pt backhoe attachment and I know I'll have to have a PTO pump to use it. It's an older model ARPS 70. Need to know before I buy it. You can buy the whole unit from Northern (hoe and pump for 5K)<br>TIA

We do not what the blade to round over therefore we preround the blade? If you are cutting wood or grass you want as sharp a blade as possible.
If I am cutting wood with an axe then the sharper the axe the better. I sharpen it regularly. The sharper it is the less HP it takes me to cut the wood. If I am chopping wood then I use a dull axe as it then does not stick in the block as easily. (Correctly I also use a quick twist of the blade as it strikes the block to prevent sticking and additional splitting action.)
Blades do not come from the manufacture razor sharp as they do not what people assembling the equipment to be cut. Just as you buy a new axe with a dull blade.
The rounding or flattening of the edge speaks to the poor temper in the steel more than the correct method of sharpening. If you dull the edge of the blade then the mower will not cut as well and use more HP. If you are cutting mostly grass/weeds then I keep it as sharp as possible. If I was clearing a wood lot you might want to flatten the edge or sharpen more often.

i just yelled over the fence at my neighbor who just happens to be a service manager at a local shop that sold that tractor years ago.he says the trator was built by nasiki and the engine is a mitshubisi.good luck.

The correct loader is a LA350 for your tractor. I had one on my B8200 that I just sold. I know Bush Hog makes a loader that will fit, and it will cost less than the Kubota loader.

I paid 17,600 for the TC29D with 68 hd bucket and 5ft Bush hog sq600 model. The price seems pretty comparable maybe alittle higher but it depends on where you live. I have seen a large price deviation on this board. As far as the tractor goes I have had it a month and couldnt be happier. The only drawback that I have seen is without rear ballest your bucket load is limited. Good luck.

I'm trying to visualize too. It hadn't occurred to me that a top-link might limit how high the lift arms can float upward. When I think about it, I guess I can see that the two off-centre arcs traced by the top and lift arms would intersect and limit upward movement. Sometime back, I realize that almost all 3ph's can always float upward. I guess a conclusion in this case would be that the lift arms would do nothing to prevent a rear flip unless an implement is mounted. When I mentioned common stories about rear flips accidents around here, I was being liberal in what was called a flip and accident. The stories usually start with something like: 'That tractor almost killed me, but I was doing something stupid.' The stupid thing usually was towing from some point other than the drawbar. The stories mean that the front wheels lifted high, and the operator had to take drastic action. Guess that still qualifies as an accident. This is logging country around here. Skidding logs is hazardous, because the get hung up or suddenly decide to go downhill. Tractors are often used for skidding, even when an actual skidder should be used. That's probably why these stories are so common. Something else that took me awhile to visualize is this business about towing only from the drawbar. Drawbars are below the rear axle. Any point above the rear axle can provide leverage to lift the front wheels. A one-inch clevis that fits neatly in my drawbar almost lives there so I'm never tempted to tow from anywhere else. Anyway, I’m happy this type of thread comes up from time to time. I’m still putting the pieces of tractor operation together. It takes some time to go from the abstract hazard and safety warnings in manuals to an ‘Whoops don’t do that!!!’ when actually working the tractor. These discussions help put the pieces together.

It’s always good to follow a manual. The manual for my Ford 1710 describes going in order from two bled screws on the filter bowl to one on the pump. The procedure may have to be repeated. The manual also says that air may reach the injector lines, in which case the fittings may have to be loosened at the engine end and the engine cranked to expel the air. Different pumps may behave differently. There are warnings about loosening fittings on injector lines where fuel may be under sufficient pressure to penetrate skin. I haven't had to bleed injector lines, but I have had to repeat the basic bleeding procedure a half-dozen times or so. I've started filling the filer bowl with fuel and immerging the filter element before installing it. The idea is to have less air trapped in the filter element that eventually has to be bled. I don't really know it does any good, but it seems like it should.

I have a John Deere 1050 2wd, I am wanting to change the 16 x 4 inch wheels to 6 inch wheels so I can run either 16" or 15" x 7.5 four ribbed tires or 7.5 aircraft tires. Does anyone know if the original factory wheels are a standard six bolt pattern? I have found many wheels that are standard pattern, but I figured since Yanmar made the tractor to JD specs it may be an odd center hub or odd six bolt pattern. Also, can anyone tell my why as you tend to place larger tires on the front, the wheel size height is reduced? Example 16 X 4 wheels with 6inch tires, 15 X 8 wheels with 9.5 inch tires.

I should point out that nicks, cuts, and cracks in the outer weather cover of the hoses doesn't seem to affect how the hose works. Sometimes I replace them just because I like the look and feel of new flexible hoses, but I've got some hydraulic high pressure hoses that are so old that you can see the wire braid in areas and they work just fine.

I'm sure that the following is not the case with JD, but it gives an idea of the kinds of mistakes that are possible. I just got through working on a tractor that had the Ag tires replaced with turf tires. The wide turfs required different wheels, and the complaint was that the tractor "felt wrong". The problem was that the new wheels were designed to use conical head wheel bolts to fit down into the tapered bolt holes in the new wheels. By now you've probably guessed it....the dealer apparently didn't have any of the new bolts so he used the existing standard hex bolts and lock washers. These had worked fine on the old Ag wheels with a flat center hub, but there was no way they would ever stay tight on the new wheels.

My impression is that petro hydraulic/transmission oil is pretty universal stuff, especially if it comes from a tractor manufacturer. I've got a gear tractor, maybe HST's are more particular. My 1710 calls for Ford/NH 134D, but my dealer recommends F200, which is a multi-season version. I don't worry much about using an AGCO multi-season petro oil. However, I'm always ready to be reeducated.

I know exactly what they are talking about. I own a 4400 and my friend has a 4300. He has a snowthrower and had this very problem after he got the new axel. The mechanic at the dealer made something to get around the problem. I believe the drive shaft came in contact with the torsion bar when turning, don't qoute me. I know it rendered the snowmachine useless. Hope this helps.

Before you pay to much for a frame mount or chance hurting your tractor with out one, consider the Bush Hog brand back hoe.
Most people don't know that Bush Hog Hoes have sub frame mounts available. (My dealer didn't even know). The nice thing is it is simple and easer to attach and unhook than the quick attach loader, NH7308.
I wasn't sure what I was buying when I ordered it because BH didn't have any literature on it. But as it turns out the back hoe and sub frame go on and off as one piece with only 2 pins in the front. there is no lifting or hands on at all the whole thing loads it self using the hydraulics in less than one minute.
anyone using a 3pt. hoe could build one like this for less than $100.00 and eliminate the chance of damage to there tractor. Any one that would like a picture just give me an e-mail. I would be glad to help.
