FYI - Even King Kutter says their carry-all is not for pallets. You are expected to deck the carry-all with a lumber platform. They make a pallet mover from rectangular steel tubing that they claim will support 2000 lbs. 24" out from the 3 point frame.

Is it common for a Ford Model 1910 to go through 2 clutches in 900 hrs? I was told by Chappell Tractor that the cluth will rust to the pressure plate. Are these tractors made for indoor use?Chappel Tractor Sales of New Hampshire is the most expensive place I have ever done business. "Their slow...but their expensive".When I do get my tractor back I will not do business with Chappell Tractor again.Roger

Roger, I don't really know about the prices, but you made no mention of a front end loader, which is generally the most useful implement of all, and the most expensive. Do you know how the dealer is breaking it down? $1,700 for the mower and $14,000 for the tractor? Doesn't sound to me like a particularly bad deal, but not anything I'd consider particularly good either.

To all of you with TC's that will not warm up. I too have a TC35D and my temp gauge never moved. Your coolant is bypassing the thermostat by flowing down the drain tube on the right side of your engine and into the radiator and right back into the engine via the bottom radiator hose.<br>Try this just as a test to prove this theory. Clamp off with a pair of vicegrips<br>the rubber drain hose (gently so you dont ruin the rubber hose) In 10 minutes or less your gauge will read in the middle of the green. Then call you dealer and tell him to install a shut off or new drain valve to stop this flow of coolant.<br>This is the 1/2 inch black rubber hose on the bottom right that the drain valve is connected into. Be careful your vicegrips dont get into the fan blade. NH is working on this and is aware but they are keeping it a secret. ALL of you who have been writing about puting cardboard in front of your radiator to get it to warm up also have this problem. Try this test then call your dealer and insist on a fix. Diesels must run hot, you will damage your engine if you run it cold.<br>

Jeff, as I understand it, my dealer is fabricating a framework to which the quik-tach "bits" will be welded. Then they will weld that framework to the BB. I assume by bits you are referring to the lower "pins" and the upper "hooks" that are on the implement section. My impression from the dealer is that the bits are standard parts that you could pick up at a JD dealership, but I'm not positive about that. I can't wait until snow and mud season is done so that I can play, I mean work, with the Brush Brute.

Yes, I've seen the Big Bee used. The few I've see are heavy duty mowers, made Army tough. But even knowing that, I'd have a hard time buying it without seeing it myself.

I was just at a local dealer in Pipersville PA and they had a new B7500 with the foldable rops on it. This was the first time I had seen one on a B series machine. I did not ask if it was available on the bigger B's but it must. So either way you should be able to get it in the Garage!

RickB is right. My 1925 had the same problem with the switch. The dealer adjusted it and I have had no problem since.

Craig, I think that combo will have plenty of power to do what you want. Prepare to be amazed! My own inclination would be to order the slightly smaller bucket, but my ground is rocky, tough to dig in, and I often need the ability of the bucket to penetrate rather than the ability to carry a big load (though that would sure be nice!).
Have you considered a tooth bar? There are several small companies that make a clip-on tooth bar for the loader bucket edge. I use it when the going gets real tough. By rotating the bucket so that the teeth penetrate the ground, putting down pressure on the bucket, and then backing up the tractor, I can tear up the ground in a similar fashion to what a tiller will do. Then reverse directions and scoop up the dirt....works pretty well, though not quite as easy as it sounds.

Thanks Bird, I am a regional landscaper and ignorant of how the rest of the country does most things I take for granted. I'll remember this and be sure to include it in future discussions as appropriate. Again, this is why I like coming to this forum, it expands my knowledge and that in and of itself is a positive thing. Thanks again, and personally, I think you and Murph help provide the glue that holds this thing all in perspective. Hi Murf. Yep, 2.5 hours west of Ottawa and it's still too close. I prefer to think of my post as a thought process rather than confusion. However, I suppose that anybody who had to read it might prefer the term 'confusion.' At any rate, the thought process did enable me to come close to what you said without actually knowing how the thing worked. I pretty much decided that what you said is the only thing that would make much sense for such a design. However, I thought it was too much thinking for one post. I figured that if a gear hydraulic pump works like a well pump (more pressure = less flow), then switching in a second pump at a fairly high pressures would help maintain the lift speed. That wouldn't be too much of a trick with a spooling valve and two open centre pumps--just connect the PS pump to the hydraulic system and disconnect from the PS. Hydraulic gear pumps may work like well pumps, but I don't know about a piston type hydraulic pump. JD does use piston pumps in some of its farm tractors. If this is how the design works, I can see some value. However, several comments can be made. First, the design would help with the speed of lifting heavy loads, but wouldn't allow heavier loads to be lifted. Second, adding the two pump capacities together wouldn't be a realistic measure of the tractor's hydraulic capacity. I believe that hydraulic pumps are rated at PTO speed and in an open centre condition. The PS pump would come into play only when the hydraulic pump was already operating at fairly high pressure and reduced volume. In such a condition, both pumps would be operating at less than speced capacity. Only one pump would be employed with light loads and dumping operations. It is an interesting design though.

My B1750 has worked this way since it was new -- if you turn too sharply in either direction, the 4WD disengages. It's one of very few things I find annoying about the tractor, but I've gotten used to it over the years.

I have a 4300 (new in jan) and got the GB 260 instead of the JD430. It takes a few more moments to remove or put on, there are two nuts to remove, I could not turn down the 2 year warrinty, more lift and bucket breakout cap.JD uses one cross member behind the bucket (loader frame) and GB uses two. The GB weighs about 100LBS more than JD 430. I got the heavy duty 60" bucket with quick tatch bucket. They are skid steer compatable, I found pallet forks for a bob cat that fits perfectly (cheaper than JD forks). I really like the GB, very soild loader,and since the GB is alittle less money that helped to.

Getting my 4100 back from the dealer on Thursday (03/08/01). Dealer claimed that the bolts just came loose. Rethreaded the hub and put in new bolts. Does not appear to be any long term damage. JD is paying the bill. NOTE: 22.9 hours on the meter...

It left a nice burned spot on one of the crank journals and it's mating bearing but I never did seem to have a problem from it either. Anyway, I learned several things 1)I always drain the block 2)Faced with a similiar repair again I would ground to the block, 3) A knowledgable welder can repair cast iron with special rod 4) I've since read where preheating part of the block with a torch and rosebud significantly helps this repair along with peening, 5)there is a certain amount of info on this type of repair on the net if you conduct a search (Sorry I'm no help now on where) and 6)I never weld on anything attached to the tractor (but I might if I ever HAVE to with special care to grounding).

Dave, I think it is a VERY reasonable expectation that the FROPS can be raised and lowered, and both pins inserted and removed, without any tools. This is either a case of poor manufacturing control, poor engineering design, or both. Sounds like a typical JD4000 series problem, except the FROPS works real well on those (at least so far on mine). Now let's see how responsive NH is to what seems to be a spate of reported Boomer problems lately. If you all remember, this is the scenario for which we bashed the living _ _ _ _ out of the Deere company over the past few years. ROPS and interlock switches are safety items and I think they should command pretty high priority.

Jerome, I have an MX6 I run with a JD4700, will cut up to 2" ok. Just remember, it is a medium duty cutter not a heavy. If I had it to do over I would have bought the woods 106. David

Doug, The above replies are right. An oil/fuild leak on a new machine is unexceptable, New I mean under 500 hrs. I have 445 hrs on my JD 4700 and about half of those hrs. are running the #48 BH. No leaks of any kind. The cylinders do leak down a little due to gravity but NO fluid leaks. David

Have any of you boomer owners had any trouble with starting your tractor when it's in netural between 1st & 2nd? The sear on mine sometimes won't depress the safety switch. I have to either put it in netural between 1st & 3rd or get off the tractor & while holding the switch closed with my right hand, turn the key with my left (the only time I use this method is when I park it on a grade and the selector won't move past 1st). Just one more thing to cause trouble.<br>Robert
