Matt, the hp for the 1910, right out of the Service Manuel, is 32 for the engine and 29.3 PTO at 540 RPM. I'd guess the drawbar hp ~ 24-25. The 1910 seems more reasonable at $9000 with less hours than the $13000 for the 1920. The shape of the loader and ease of use is a factor that I can't evaluate. I think both prices are a starting point for further offers. Is there any other implement that can be thrown into the mix ?

Yep, you get the idea: If you can't build the bathroom at this time then that's OK. But don't let that stop you from putting the plumbing into the slab. Same for the hot water heat.

Last week I was in NC and stopped by the new Northern tractor store. I have to admit I was sceptical going in. "You get what you pay for"!!

From a distance the tractor looks alright, but once you get close you begin to see the poor quality and lack of attention to detail in the metal. The fuel tank looked like someone hand-forged it over a rock and never ground down the edges..

It started good, it was about 10degF and the tractor had was outside. I asked the salesman about the tractor manufac. He indicated that they were made by Rhino, and had been in the tractor business for 50 years. If you read the posts on the board about Rhino tractors, I think you can get the picture. Although with a company like Northern tool standing behind them they may be a better deal.

They do offer an extended warranty for 3 years that is around $350. This might be okay if you live near there service center.

Not trying to change anyones opinion, but thought I should share my observations.

My father bought a Ford 1710 back in 1985; 24 PTO hp with 2wd. Used it until last summer for mowing and general light farm work, the only repairs required during those 15 years were a new starter (about 5 years ago). It worked so well that when we replaced it, we really didn't consider anything larger. We ended up buying a JD 4300 (26 PTO hp).

Check with your John Deere Dealer - the parts manual shows cab parts being available. If I recall correctly, it appears to be canvas sides.

I'd crack the hand throttle 1/2 - 3/4 open if you don't already. An open throttle sort of acts like a diesel choke. I'm not sure if glow plug indicators actually indicate pre-heat temperature or even guarantee that all plugs are working. A service manual should give some resistance tests for the glow plugs. Especially if it's an older tractor, corrosion on the plug wiring or where they screw into the head can reduce how well the plugs work.

At 20 - 30F, I expect my Ford 1710 to start easily with only pre-heating. I do use 0W-30 engine and multi-season hydraulic oil. I save the block heater, transmission heaters and battery blanket for when it's colder.

I think 1 - 2 mph is a pretty good ground speed for a blower. A dealer should be able to tell you the reverse ground speeds of a 790 @ PTO RPM. I said before that my 1710 has four reverse gears and I wouldn't want to do fewer, but maybe the 790 reverse gears provide OK ground speeds. A creeper option was available for 1710's, which I don't have, maybe something similar is available for 790's.

CW Dont know the hp, or history of these machines, but priced some locally recently. One $11,900 and the other for $15,900. The difference was amount of hours and condition. Hope this helps.

I have found a 86' Ford 1910, great bend 240 loader, 900 hrs, for $10,000, and a 88' Ford 1920, Woods loader, 1200 hrs, for $13,000. What are the big differences between the two models? Are there known problems with either of the models? Any information would greatly be appreciated!

I have a 4300 but it has the same rims and tires as your 4400. I asked the dealer to swap my rears for a wider track but the mechanic told me not to bother since it would only yield a total of 1 1/2" in width. The offset is obviously only 3/4" per wheel and not worth the time and dangers involved. On the other hand the fronts being swapped adds considerably to the width. A note on the fronts though is that the mechanic told me to be careful about bouncing down rutted roads and pounding the front end at high speed because he'd seen one customer tear up the front bearings due to abuse. I also understand that you have faster tire wear with the fronts set wide. On my hilly property I don't drive fast anywhere, and for the extra stability I'm not concerned about the tire wear issue.

Boy did I get everyone wound up. Thanks for those of you who do support us on the board. For those who don't appreciate our views I can only think they must know more than we do and don't need our input, for those I'm sorry I offended you. I look at some of the posts and sometimes wonder that a salesperson isn't writing some of them to look favorable to a brand. By that I mean that the posts have some tainted info that is not correct or could be in Bill Clintons best of english "I did not inhale." Unfortunatly while waiting for Hillary he stood next to the exhaust fan for the rooms she was smoking in with her freinds for hours on end. The effect was the same but!

Glenn, I'll just venture a guess as to why you haven't seen much, if any, mention of the L2950. Wasn't 1993 the last year that model was made? I suspect a lot of us didn't have access to the Internet back then, don't know how many L2950s were made and sold, but the people who bought them may still be using them, but not aware of discussion boards such as this. I doubt that it has anything to do with the quality of the tractor itself.

Our Little League has a 430 diesel with hydo trans that we use with York rake and scarrifier to dig up our 8 infields and rake and roll to keep them smooth. Last year when we tried to use it it would work fine for about 15 minutes then we would lose power steering, the 3pt wont raise and the tractor wont move. Have replaced the charge pump and changed the trans fluid and i believe the filter if it has one. Unable to correct the problem had dealer take tractor they couldnt duplicate as will run fine with no load from scarifier. Dealer has had back 3 times unable to fix. Anyone else had any problems or suggestions? I suspect hydo bad if so how much and are they available anywhere else (new or rebuilt) and price. Hate to give uo as has been vwery good machine-actually much beter with less troble than our 2 yr old 455 JD diesel. Thanks for any info <br>d

i hear ya, guys. i have the same problem with "pushing" up against the lever, especially when i am bushhogging and i turn to look back. sometime almost makes the bucket dig into the ground. lockout is a great idea and i am gonna start using it.
