On the bent axle...it seems if okay for 9 years would be okay to drive then...seems like replacing it has taken 9 years longer than it should have...

Not in the business of hiring out for tractor work but you might need to be charging some extra to cover those repairs. No doubt you know wood will damage tractor very quick. I know from experience. Slow turned out to be my best defense in working with limbs and stumps and around them. Still remember using blade to grade some dirt that did have a few roots and stumps in it and looking back to see my blade way behind me. Have used two blades rated for tractor they were on to fail totally with roots and stumps. Now that I think on it each time I have had metal to break it was due to stump or very large root. Good thing I got excavator and just stick the bucket in there...lol but that was when the bucket shaft broke also. a stump. That one was to some degree son in laws fault on not greasing it properly. If shaft is squeaking something is wrong.

I still haven't had a visit from the dealer. I may have to fix it myself. I think the rear wheel and mudguard would have to be removed to get at the control valve. It doesn't appear to have hoses going into the valve , just metal pipes. Considering there was a metallic sounding bang when it happened the problem may well be in the valve. I wasn't aware that this was so easy to do as I reversed quite slowly with little power applied. I will have to be more careful in the future. Seems strange that it doesn't have some sort of safety valve or pressure relief for this type of accident.

Note #68 on this parts drawing. That is the handle to the stop valve. On the 1500 this should only be closed or open. Open is for normal use. Closed is only to lock the lift in a raised position. If you close this valve and then try to use the lift you will dead head your hydraulic pump and stand a good chance of shearing the key or complete pump failure. http://www.hoyetractor.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=YM1500HYDLIFT

Your last statement about the lift only coming up a small amount sounds scary. Is it doing this with the stop valve fully opened?

This looks like a good place to post some of my own questions related to a very similar tractor, with slightly alternate considerations.

I too have a Yanmar 1500 bought second hand, which i use to mow about 4 acres... The sheep tend to the other four, of the eight acres. I have a Big Bee 48" finish mower deck that I use(came with the tractor), but shouldn't be relevant to my questions. One problem has been persistent since the purchase...

It doesn't allow for easy raising and lowering to a specific height. I have to move the lever to the raise all the way back to raise the deck, and then move it forward slightly when the deck reaches the desired height. Lowering the deck presents the same problem in reverse.

The other problem is a new development. I've been having trouble setting the up/down speed to something usable. It always drops at a fast rate. Doesn't seem to matter how I set the hydraulic stop.

There is also a knob beside the seat, in approximately the same area as the hydraulics and the knob is similar to the one in front of the seat. But, no idea what that knob is supposed to control.

I do have a manual in English, but it hasn't been any help with these problems.

More recently, I can no longer get the deck to go up more than 1/4" to 1/2". The hydraulic stop control knob is open. But, closing it doesn't seem to have any effect, whereas it used to control the lift speed, but not the drop speed. I've checked the fluid level on the dip stick, which appears to be correct... Though not sure if there are conditions needed(ie hot, idling, with it in the lift, or lower position, etc).

Any help I can get here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 46bugs. I have seen that site when I was looking to buy this used. Unfortunately it does not say where to add and check the hydraulic fluid. I 2lines blow out and lost enough I feel it needs to be topped off. With the capacity shown I figure its all in the rear axle. There is a dipstick and filter mounted to it.

UPDATE: ALL FIXED

I found a local supplier and was able to get a Mitsubishi exact fit alternator.

It does have to have a functioning idiot light to "turn on" the alternator.

Now charging at 14.2 volts.

Further to the above, be aware that for a 2 stroke engine you should be using [u]marine formula[/u] Sta-bil for best results.

It has an additional component that combats the tendency of the Ethanol to cause the oil to separate from the gas. It also does better at preventing moisture absorption.

If it has not been used in a long time it's likely just stuck from not being turned. The last person who closed the valve mail also over tightened it. If both of those, applyit will be terribly difficult to open the valve.

I would suggest a trick I used before with success. Wrap a rag around the control knob and make several passes around the knob, then take the end of the rag and grip it tightly with a pair of vise grip pliers and use the vice grips as leverage against the stem to turn the knob.

This will grip far tighter than you could by hand.

At 143 engine hours on August 2nd I greased my L3240 Kubota. I knew it was about time to do this, and I decided to do the greasing before I got carried away using the front end loader to clean hay out of a couple of barn stalls. I cleaned all the fittings off with a clean cloth. I found that I had a couple of grease fittings that for a better word, had frozen up. I kept working with them, but they still would not take grease. I finally sprayed some Kroil oil onto the top of the grease fittings that were stuck, and waited about ten minutes or so. I then used a small screw driver tip to push the little ball in the center of the grease fitting down. This got things to move freely, such that the grease finally went in properly. I have had this to happen a few times on a harrow, but this was the first time this has ever happened on the L3240.
