Does anyone have any expierence with the Kubota L3000 tractor? What is a good price for this machine with a loader? Thanks.

I have a Rhino 60" finish mower that I'm real happy with. Its a side discharge but it cuts real good. My "yard" has mostly bermuda, but also has dallis grass, weeds, clover, other undientifiable plant material. The mower seems real well built and it looks real easy to get to the belts, plus the grease fittings on the bearings are easily accessible. The 4 wheels pretty much line up however.

A couple of weeks ago I took delivery on a new JD 990 mfwd and a 613 rotary cutter.I now have a grand total of 15 hours on them.I have neglected my brush hogging the last several years,so I have been giving the tractor and brush hog a good working out.So far they have both performed perfect.BILLG

Went thru my Massey dealer when I bought my tractor(MF1225), and have been using it for 1 season now no problems. The unit is a worksaver T25-50 this unit is for 25HP tractors. I live in central PA and I think the dealer got the tiller in New Holland, Pa. It works well in my rocky clay "soil", Start with PTO slow first pass on new area then when you pick out the big rocks and then run the PTO faster the next pass. I think the tiller was about $1k and it weighs about 400 lbs. If the Tiller bounces when it hits a rock, stop and get the big one out by hand. The tiller is chain drive in grease/oil bath and the PTO drive shaft has a shear pin on the tiller end if it really gets hooked up on a stone. Hope this helps

Roger, I do about the same thing. Once it seems to be locked on, I push and pull both directions to see if it feels like it's locked on, and then make sure that little button has popped back out all the way. I didn't talk to the guy to ask what happened, but a few years ago, I saw a guy pull out of a shop on a big tractor with a big brush hog and start to mow down the highway right of way and he didn't go a hundred feet before the driveline came loose from the tractor (at full PTO speed). The centrifugal force of the blades kept that driveshaft banging and flopping around for quite some time, and that guy had sense enough to just sit there on the tractor until it stopped.

You sure picked three good ones to compare! I think these are all destined to be classics, and that we will be seeing these models around for the next few decades. I'd favor the 4100 myself...not for any rational reason.....mostly because of the color.... but gotta admit that I did think that the NH was the best one to jump on and blast around. Lots of visibility and the thing handles like a super-quiet go cart. And for pure consistent quality and solid engineering I don't think you are going to beat the Kubotas. If I were to add a fourth model to your list it would be the 1200 series Masseys. It sure is a buyer's market in good compacts these last few years.

When I consider the reliability of my two past Kubotas, I can truthfully state that in their twelve years of use, EVERYTHING worked as it should 99.999 percent of the time (tachometer cable broke). When I consider the reliability of my JD4400HST that is a little more than a year and a half old with 140 hours, only about 10 percent of the time has EVERYTHING worked as it should (which means that 90 percent of the time one or more things were not working as they should). The new front end and new transmission appear to work fine, but after the brakes were replaced the rear axle seals (between axles and the main body of the tractor) are now slowly leaking transmission fluid and again I can no longer use road gear since the brakes appear to be dragging. I am still awaiting the upgrade linkages and the 60" commercial belly mower still leaves stripes of taller grass. JD reliability... hmmmmm. Mike S.

My axle for 4600 came in Aug. 1st, haven't had installed yet. Someone awhile back said if you didd'nt have turfs and mower deck you could not get the replacement axle,I have neither and got an axle. budinohio.

Jim, I've had similar experience with some of the stuff I've cut (and I was just a captain in the Dallas PD before retiring), but it depends to some extent on the kind of trees or brush, i.e., mesquite will come back no matter what you cut it with, but if you mow it once or twice a year it'll never get any bigger than a big weed. But I think a good percentage of the brush will die out and rot when shattered by the brush hog.

I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I do have some answers for you.

Between bucket force and dipperstick forces, the bucket forces will have more impact on the tractor. This is assuming that you have the stabilizers down and are on level ground.

As for mounting a 1050 on a TN90F, I would urge you to consider a Woods BH9000 instead. The BH9000 has a subframe available. The TN90F is heavy enough to handle a 1050, however the 3-point hitch arms are offset quite a bit. As you pointed out the tractor is barely larger than a Boomer. Unless you absolutely must have the extra 1.5 feet I think that the BH9000 would make a much better fit for the TN90F and you would then be able to use a subframe which is in my opinion a much better method of attaching a backhoe to a tractor. A subframe will better spread the forces out over the tractor frame. People don't realize how much stress and strain a backhoe can produce on the prime mover.

You also asked what was the most stressful aspect of a tractor mounted backhoe, transporting it, or using it. As you pointed out the experts differ on their opinions. In my experience (as well as that of my colleagues) it is very case dependant. Sometimes transporting it will create more stress, sometimes the application will create more stress. I'm sorry that I can't give you a more definite answer, but again there are just so many factors that affect stress on the tractor.

I sold my old Ford 8N and now have to get a replacement, I have 5 acres I finish mow an do a little light blade work. I have looked at the Boomer TC21 and the Deere 4100. My local Kubota dealer quoted $ 8750 for the B7500DT and $1350 for a LandPride 5' 3pt finish mower...the price is way better than JD or New Holland.....should I jump on it and get the Kubota???

I have a JD 650 that needs a loader also. Unfortunately they are next to impossible to be found used. I have been looking on and off for over three years. If you are really in desperate need of one you will probably have to go new. In the research I have done(medium) Koyker(http://sdibi.northern.edu/koyker/Koyker2.htm ) makes a model 110 that seems to be a good match for our tractor and they are about the best value I found. I just have a hard time in justifying an attachment that costs half as much as the whole tractor, thats my dilema.

I have B2400 with 200 hours on it. I was in your position a year ago before deciding on the Kubota. Both are excellent machines. At the time I was looking there was a 3 month delivery on the 4100. I couldn't wait that long and I preferred the Kubota dealer anyway. Both machines are very similar but the B2410 has a couple of extra HP for approximately the same weight. The extra HP is always useful. Also JD didn't make a backhoe for the 4100 but I believe aftermarket manufactures do. The 4100 seems to be free from some of the woes that plague the other 4000 series machines. The Kubota is a great little machine and I have had no problems with it other than a leaking hydraulic hose. You just crank it up and go to work. The FEL comes on and off in under 2 minutes - very easy, no tools - just like the Deere. The ergonomics are different on the 2 machines. The Kubota has the brake and hydro pedals on the same side which I thought might be a problem but it hasn't proved to be. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Pick the one that fits you best and you feel the most comfortable on. Don't forget the dealer though, he'll be an important person in your life. There is nothing that can sour you on a machine faster than a dealer who is totally unhelpful and some of them can be. All things being equal, I'd chose the Kubota again mainly for the extra HP and the dealer but if I had one close to me I'd look at the new boomers as well.

Mike,I think you will find that if you hook-up to that type mower,you'll have problems keeping your left rear tire on the ground,not a good thing.I'm sure there is someone out there that makes a cycle-bar type mower for a compact,but I can't tell you who.

I rarely use the HP that I've got with any of my tractors. It is usually more traction that I'm after....not more power. I have noticed that my 1959 gasoline JD outweighs the diesel compact by more than double - even though they have about the same horsepower. So the traction of the JD is much greater. There is really no comparison in ability to pull. It might have to do with the fact that the JD has larger diameter tires and a better weight distribution. The compact tractor has the advantage that it is small and handy.
BTW, the old gasoline JD is a "torquer" with pretty much the same excellent lugging response from idle up to max RPM of 1200. The compact diesel is a high RPM engine which doesn't peak until 2600 RPM - more than double where the gasoline engine peaks. Horsepower is torque times RPM, so the diesel gets a lot of its power from RPM whereas the gasoline-burning JD gets most of its power from torque. The compact diesels are real "screamers" compared to the old farm tractors in terms of torque vs RPM. The old farm tractors had a torque rise when load is encountered that is hard to beat.
What I am saying is that the 30 hp in an old gasoline farm tractor is quite potent at getting work done. If you want to match your 35 hp farm tractor, you had better get at least that much horsepower in a compact, and as much more as you can afford.

Hello:

I have a 48" John Deere Model 413 shredder and a 48" BushHog finish mower. The BushHog is a rear mount and it has two blades instead of three, as seems to be more common. It discharges to the right, but I bolted a steel plate over the discharge to better protect my windows and my air conditioner and to further mulch grass clippings. Both the John Deere and the BushHog are well made and heavy as sin. I have used them for a year and had no problems. It's hard to find narrow units and, of course, they do have to be wide enough to extend over the width of both rear tires of the tractor. Good luck!
