Thanks for the information, seems a little steep, am going to take the heads to a machine shop to see if I need to give them last rights. I will keep in touch and let you know what it happening. Thanks again for your help.

For what it's worth, I'm most happy with my 4400. R4s do not bother even a finished lawn if it's dry, and though leaving an imprint when it's not real dry, don't leave ridges, etc. I like the R4s. My dealer is exceptional, and Deere, to has been great -- replaced last year's 4400 with a one!!! But, my best advice is to check them both out carefully, and if all's equal, go with the best dealer (parts & service)

I traded a Kubota L2500 for a JD4400 (and agree it's not the same machine -- Hp, hydro, etc.) but am really sold. As has been said many times on this board, the dealer really makes the difference, given they are both the same machine. (Evidently the trannies are not identical) The JD follow up has been SUPERB, both from the dealer and Deere -- But, for you, look at the ease of controls, operation, getting on & off, visability, etc. in addition to the other points mentioned here. If ALL paramenters are equal, go for the dealer. (IMHO)

What's a fair value for a 1997 Cub Cadet model 7195, with front loader and 5' belly mower. Unit has 138 hours on it and is in showroom condition. Garage kept when not in use.Any feedback will be appreciated.

Sorry that I didn't get a price on a new engine. I just now saw your reply. I did get a price on a complete new cylinder head from Kubota. It would be $635.17 with free freight. You could also check with West Kentucky Tractor Parts in Kevil, KY at 270-462-2191. They have alot of used compact tractor parts. If you want, I can call down Monday and get a quote for a complete new engine from Kubota. Let me know what you think, and I will help any way I can.

Presumably, a tractor with so few hours is still under warranty. If so, your dealer should be asked to correct this problem. Barring that solution, a wiring schematic (service manual) will help you trace out the offending circuit, and help lead you to the cause of the problem. Perhaps a wire was crushed in the installation of your loader, and is now shorting out, causing the fuse to blow. If that is the case, the installing dealer should correct the problem regardless of the warranty status of the tractor. Despite the fact that dealerships and their personnel are held in generally low esteem on this board, successful ones do provide service support for the machines they sell. A good dealer will correct this problem for you, and should be your first contact. Good Luck.

The glass on my NH TN90F fogs but only when I have the cab ac on and it is humid out. It's new so I don't have much experience yet.

With larger trees, safety becomes a big issue. There have been some lengthy discussions about tractor logging safety here and on tractorbynet. Good idea to check the archives if you haven't already. One of the main safety ideas is that a sizable log weighs more than the tractor. If the log slides down a hill, the tractor and operator go alone for the ride.

Rob: Thanks for the note. What you say makes sense, and I now remember that readings should be taken after the nut cracks. I guess that leaves the idea unresolved. If both ideas are true, then whether to loosen or not? Maybe the resolution is answering the question whether checking the head torque for purposes of valve adjustment requires re-torquing the head or not. One approach might be reasoning that the purpose of checking the torque as part of a valve adjustment is to correct any gross looseness that might be progressive. Head tightness certainly affects valve clearance. I imagine it's possible to loose all valve clearance in areas around loose head bolts.

As always, a lot to consider. I'm coming up on a 600-hour valve adjustment myself. Suppose I should figure this one out. However, my instincts are to disturb something that is working as little as possible.

David Paul, I would hope that the dealer has checked all the cooling system items, since they've been fighting this problem for 2 years, although I'm not certain.

I'm going to try the items you suggested and we'll see what the reactions are; I'll let you know.

I found a JD 955,1995 less than 500 hrs., 70A loader,two sets of tires ag & turf, very clean, & well maintained (altho I haven't seen it in person). Also a trailer made by Gold Star Enterprises with a GVWR of 7000#'s, Twin axle, wood deck, side rails & new tires, electric brakes & ramps.Price is 15,000.00. I also need a mid mount mower, since I am primarily going to mow grass (about 8 acres). Found a used but like new one that came off of a 1990 955. Does anyone know if it is the same hook-up (brackets etc) as the 1995 955? Asking price of the mower is 1350.00. Any thoughts on the price of these?

I just purchased a new 430 Loader last month for my JD 1070. I looked at Woods Duall and Great Bend as well. I almost bought a great bend because the capacity was another 400lbs at the pin. I'm glad that I went with the Deere though. It operates well and has the newer style bucket tilt linkage that really improves tilt angles. This has been a real plus when using the fork attachment. I liked the idea of the skid steer quick attach on the other Loader brands, but the JD quick tach works easily enough and I don't hesitate to switch my HD bucket and JD fork attachment. I just though that the skid steer attachments were more universal. I was disappointed that the guard for the 4000 series will not fit on the 70 series tractor frame. They will include a lighter duty guard that attaches to the loader frame if you ask for one. The side mounting hardware is different then on the 4000 series but is just as nice. I already had the hydraulics so I didn't need those parts and saved a little money on that. I also picked up the loader and installed it myself. Fortuately I had another loader to unload my pickup. The 430 loader w/ large HD bucket, mounting hardware, front and rear brackets cost me $3195. Roughly $600. less than another JD dealer in my area. I also purchased a fork attachment at $995. I assume that the fork purchase price margin allowed the dealer to give me a better package price. Good luck
