I have a 4100 and, no it doesn't have the turf tearing problems. However, I would not necessarily say that the other axles were "poorly engineered". I am an engineer and things are designed for different purposes. As I understand it, Deere made this axle the way they did for strength and didn't really expect people to be cutting their lawn with the larger ones. BUT, it would be nice if they explained that to someone somewhere, like at a site or a forum, so people understood and didn't think they were just being ignored. I know they think they should only deal with their customers through the dealers and probably don't want to get involved in a battle but this is the new millenium and maybe it is time to start since people expect it nowadays. Think how happy we all would have been on this forum of someone from John Deere came on to explain what was going on. Everyone would have been impressed at their concern and bought green.

John--the side plates that you mentioned are options on several brands of blades and can be ordered from the implement dealer. Sorry--I don't recall which brands but ran across them in brochures from several manufacturers when I was shopping for a rear blade--perhaps Rhino and Woods (and maybe Land Pride).

Bob, I agree with J. Dubbs; look at the other brands he mentioned, and also at the Bush Hog brand (which is what I use). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the one you're looking at, at Tractor Supply, but if you look at the others and compare them, I think you'll see why the Tractor Supply mower is cheaper.

turfman, that sounds like the same sales pitch that got my money; just what the salesman told me. My brother-in-law and another neighbor also bought them. My brother-in-law says they're "all right; not bad" and the other neighbor feels the same as I do; I won't be back at that dealer for anything ever again. I figure he got me once, but never again. Maybe those blades work on some types of mower designs and not others.

No, it will not void your warranty. Your dealer's not in the know on this one. Suggest to him that he contact Kubota's warranty department for a little education.

Tractor has 1900 hrs. used for mowing, not configured to front loader or rear backhoe. Hydraulic arms will not lift at all, not even a quiver. Local Kubota dealer disassemled & inspected pump and declared it "worn but it should work". I removed and cleaned the screen. It was not dirty (see light through it) and the fluid looked good (amber color not milky). Increased the bypass valve shim, nothing. While the tractor was running I backed off the bolts from the high pressure side of the pump. Expecting to get a spray it eventually started oozing out. I haven't a gauge but I am suspicious of the pump. I am baffled that the arms don't even quiver. Is there something I have missed? Also any suggestions for parts contacts are appreciated.

Tom, I will be doing alot with the 4700. I have the following attachments on order, 460 FEL w/73" HD bucket, #48 backhoe, JD 660 tiller, JD posthole digger, JD MX6 rotary mower, Patu DC 65 HF chipper, Fransgard V4000 logging winch, Landpride 72" 3pt mount finish mower and Landpride 2572 Box scraper. I guess I'll be busy for a while. The tractor is in, I played with it the other day at the dealership, I love it. It has all the most updated equipment that many 4000 series owners have had problems with. Not all of the attachments are in and the service dept. is behind so it will prob. be another week or so before I will be playing fulltime. I also told them not to hurry, I want everthing done right the first time. David

Jim, you say you have fuel at the injectors, but do you have any air there, also? You may need to bleed them until all the air bubbles are out and nothing but fuel comes out. And if you're going to try ether, you have a lot more nerve than I have!

Probably a dum question,but are r-4's also rougher riding than ag tires?I'm currently running ag tires and though i don't mow lawns with the tractor,i do have to cross people's lawns to get to the work and with the wet spring and summer we are having this year,the ags can really make some marks.Anyway the reason for my origanal question is that i drive the tractor to the jobs which are usually within 2 miles,so i don't have to go out and buy a trailer,and i would be interested in how the r-4 compares to ag on the road.Thanks.

Today I solved the problem of storing my 3 pt implements inside & keeping easy access for hookups & in the process made hooking up the implements much easier. Since I bought my compact tractor last November, it has been a chore to keep the implements out of the weather and keep the garage organized so I could hook them up. I solved the problem today by making platforms with casters to set each implement on. I can now store the implements lined up next to the wall. When I need to use one I can simply roll it over to the tractor. The casters make it easy to line up the pins for hookup. <br>The frames I made are simple rectangles made with 4 2" X 6"s with lapped corners, a swivle caster on each corner. For the grader blade I had to add an up right frame for the blade hitch to set on. I made these for my large PTO chipper, tiller, grader blade & box blade. For the bush hog I took a 2" X 8" cut 4" longer than the width of the deck, added 1 1/2" cleats to the ends & 2 swivel casters on each end. Just roll this under the hitch end of the bush hog and lower the mower on it. Hope this is helpful. Chris

I gotta agree with Bird the Tufline is a great blade. I have done alot of things with it that it wasnt made to do and it has not let me down yet. I would sure buy another one if something happened to this one. Just MHO

I also use turn brakes on my 855, mainly while discing and plowing, turning 90* to a 360* turn I find it very handy & necessary at times, but I've been told it adds more shaveings in the hydro sreen.

Larry, the transmission "screens" or "strainers" are where the lines go into the transmission; one on either side. It's a metal line that looks like it has a loop on the end and a large bolt through that loop. When you unscrew and pull that "bolt" out, it'll be the strainer. And you have to drain the transmission first (or you'll drain it in a hurry when you remove one the of the strainers).

I don't know which model you have, but the Workshop Manual for the B2710 says to remove the "timing window cover on the clutch housing" and "Align the "1TC" mark line on the flywheel and center of timing window so that the No. 1 piston comes to the compression or overlap top dead center."

I have a Mott brand 48" finish flail mower.(They actually call it a hammer knife mower but I guess it is the same thing.) Anyways, I bought it for my JD750 but recently bought a 1070 and will probably sell it to purchase a mower for the larger width machine. I don't know the value but would be willing to talk. It is pto driven and is a heavy duty unit. I'm in New England. Eric
