David - Hi,(& Semper Fi) I've heard that the dealers get a rebate of sorts if they keep their warranty costs down to a certain percentage of sales, so, you either have to find a good dealer (I certainly did), or keep in touch via this board. I have questioned other dealers about the scuffing, and they too appear ignorant of the issue. I would imagine this guy knew about the problem but wouldn't admit it. As a matter of interest, my dealer had only two complaints (and replacements) out of 35 sold last year! By the way, I traded a Kubota for the Deere (I also upgraded the model)- more comfort, hydro, etc. Jack

Mike - I also have an 855 with 70A loader. I can raise the front tires just barely off the ground with my loader lift cylinders while the bucket is level. No straining. If I first curl the bucket and try it, I can raise up higher. Note that I always have either a backhoe or a 5 foot rotary mower on the rear and the tires are filled, so that would undoubtely change the physics a bit. I love my 855! You?

Brian, click on the link below and look up the 3 tractors and their specs there. I can't vouch for the accuracy of their information, but there's a lot there. They indicate the L275 was made from '81-85, 23 PTO hp, the 1510 from '83-86, 20 PTO hp, and the 234 from '82-84 with 18 engine hp (PTO hp would be less). As to which one's the best buy, I don't know.

A bed frame with springs in it has allways been a good leveling too for me.I even put a 3 point hicth on one and a place for suite case weights,adjust the top link for the best finish on different soils.

I did bracket 'oligopoly' for anybody who would split a fine point. Same theory. Guess they teach pure competitive models in Econ 101. Market distortions due to departures from the competitive model must come later.

Anyway, I rather think about my tractor, which makes me happy, then Economics, which doesn't. From me, more about tractors and less about theory: Hope everybody else is happy with their tractor too. I'd just rather see more corporate energy go into engineering and less into organizational overhead. I'm not sure that all the effort that goes into things like producing or preventing the latest corporate takeover does much for product quality.

Just that Del over on tractorbynet mentioned there were some. I think my 1710 is a later model and should have any upgrades, but I'm going to check with my dealer anyway. I'll post a note if anything turns up.

Just reading this thread and wondering if you folks would write in an update on what you did. I am about to get a NH utility tractor (looking at the TNF and TNS) and want to run a PTO driven vac with a mower (necessary for the vac pickup).

David, have you taken these concerns to your Deere dealer? It would be interesting how they react, you might have all your questions answered and a new tractor. Any quality dealer will tell you how those problems have been solved and how they will deal with any future problems you might have. Good luck!

I received my 1070 today. Only 245 hrs. I was a little disappointed with the overall sheet metal cond.. There are rust bubbles under the faded paint in many spots. The paint just doesn't seem to be adhering very well either. Therefore, rust is evidently going to be a problem. Was this a problem for deere in the past? My JD750 seems to be better built in this department by a long shot w/ stronger sheet metal and better paint. The 1070's a 96' model with foam filled turfs, MFWD, cool draft features, no mid pto, but power steering! It has a great turning radius and the sync. shift seems to work fine. No more grinding gears. But.. I'm really still attached to my 750, and I am going to miss her. I can't afford both. Unfortunately the 1070's lift cap. both w/ loader and 3pth is a necessity for the next year or so. After that with only an acre or so to mow, I'll probably want a smaller tractor... I wouldn't bet on that last line. (I'll stop whining now).

It sounds like this tractor must have a weak front end if they are giving this warning. I have heard the same warning on other tractors, but for safety reasons, not mechanical durability. I use a loader with my 790 without ballast and have had no scares yet.

Thanks Dave and Bob for the info on the 1030. However, I found a Ford 1715 that has 800 hrs on it and is in great shape. The 1030 was not taken care of and would be a real risk. Thanks again for the info.

MLS, My statement about JD comming at a "preimium price and therefore I expect preimium performance and service" still holds true! If Kubota costs more for a similar machine then I would expect even more from Kubota. As for bashing JD without owning one, I do! I own a 4100 just as you do. I also own a SX85 for trim work. I paid $1900 for the SX85 and I am very displeased with the drive system on it. I could have bought a Honda with a genuine hydrostatic drive for less money. As for dealer satisfaction, he probably should not get in my way while I am tilling. I think this dispells your theory about persons making statements based on unknowledgeable statements by other uninformed persons.

Martin, I also have a MF 1250-4. I don't know anything about the Kelly backhoes, but I have a MF 1217. It is a very good hoe. It has a lot of power. Not to long ago I dug 2400' of 16" wide ditch. The depth varied from 2'to 4'depending on what I was putting in each branch. Every one of the contractor on site was inpressed at how it dug. The dirt was hard packed red clay with rock. In one area you could look in the ditch and see three waves of 6" rocks that I had dug through. I have been real happy with it. JerryG

I live in linden, TN. I got a price of 25,000 before taxes from a place called golden circle implement in lexington, Tn. That price included supersteer, remotes, 4wd, and 90 inch air tunnell bush hog mower. There number is 901-968-2027. You can also try Murphy ford tractor in Jackson, Tn. Sorry, don't have the number. Their price was around 24,500 for the same equiped tractor.
