Have a danuser 24p,6",3pt. chipper with self feed and love it.What i like is if you can drive the tractor their,you can get the chipper their.As far as cost effective,i'm not sure any of my equipment is.When i'm at a job with mower,trimmer,blower,tractor and all kinds of stuff,and the young lady comes to do the gardening with some hand tools that you could buy at tag sales,and charges almost as much as i do,,well i guess it's just fun to have stuff.

was by the dealer today and the unit has not arrived. He said Deere had it on shipment. I bought a front end loader. Feel like I will receive the unit, but I must be competing with the production line. Told dealer I would install and they only allow 5 hours and I want it done right. Have obtained a service manual and don't want a rush job. Will keep a post.

Have a 955 with 420 Loader..Works Great and has faster cycle rates and higher weight capabilities.Looks great too !!!!!

Thanks Rick. I haven't noticed the h2o making a difference, but I will try that. It seems to do it every time it's used. The factory rep called me today regarding some other issues and, when questioned about this, he stated that it is a common problem with no cure.

I have an old Kubota(27yrs) It has been in my family since day one. I have personally mantained this machine since 1980. The engine was rebuilt(about4000hrs) in 1996 by the dealer. My problem is it no longer seems to run the rear mounted 60" mower. For the last 2 years this thing has just lacked power in any grass. The clutch seems ok, the engine runs great, so I am at a loss for an explanation. It seems the pto power is lacking. This thing handles about 18 acres(and always did) and the grass is getting longer. I do not want to buy a new machine. Any input? Thanks DC Smith

You have a 15-20 minute grace period to wash off the oil from poison oak. Soap and water should work, but alcohol
might be a little more thorough. The problem with alcohol is that it also removes the oil on the skin which gives a slight
bit of protection to the poison oak and until the oil is replenished you will be slightly more susceptible to getting a rash if you brush against any clothing or pets that have been in the poison oak

"An ounce of prevention: Smooth on a barrier cream, such as IvyArmor or IvyBlock, which contain chemicals to trap or
block urushiol, preventing it from penetrating the skin. Wear long pants, long sleeves and boots during tromps in the woods.
Launder clothes immediately upon return. Don gloves for yardwork. Wipe garden tools with rubbing alcohol.

Spring is a great time to kill new starts, says Pollyanna Lind of the Eugene-based Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to
Pesticides. Wear protective clothing. Then grub starts out when the soil is soft, getting as much root as possible. Rake up the
plants, bag in plastic and dispose. Do not compost; they'll grow there.

Then keep starts at bay by covering the area with a piece of carpeting and mulch. You need to plant something in its place or
poison oak will re-establish itself. This process may need repeating for a few years.

Wait until leaves have dropped in the fall or winter to deal with larger, more robust poison oak.

Both the coalition and OSU Extension Service suggest fencing the affected area and letting a goat graze there for several
years.

The Extension Service says two herbicides are effective against poison oak: triclotyr and glyphosate. Triclotyr can be
purchased under several trade names, including Crossbow. Use it on a day when the temperature is 70 degrees or cooler.
Glyphosate is also sold under multiple trade names, including Roundup. It is most effective in late summer or fall.

Tip: Roundup kills grass; Crossbow does not."

Just a quick note from a person who used to do power line clearing, right of way clearing and topping by climbing and by bucket truck. ALWAYS, ALWAYS,USE YOUR HEAD AND APPLY COMMON SENSE AND USE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. Many people don't realize that when you leave the house, you might not come back. Many accidents are sudden and catastrophic. A piece of equipment has no heart and does not care if you get killed or just a good scare. Sometimes you get a lifetime of second chances and sometimes only one bad accident that takes or ruins your life. Install a roll bar and wear the seat belt. Don't think you are skillful enough to always finesse your way out of trouble. We all have those days when our presence of mind is not what it should be. I have a friend who did tree work for years and still got 40 stitches in his knee from a saw cut. That was just a peck on the leg compared to what sometimes happens. Why? Because he was working around the house and didn't bother to put on his saw chaps. It can and will happen and we just have to be ready and protected.

Andy, Deere does not make a tooth bar for that bucket, but there is one made by ATI that works well. I just got one 3 weeks ago with my JD4400 with 430 loader and 61" HD bucket. You can also get this tooth bar from SSB (see web link below) or through Carver Equipment. I got the toothbar with replaceable teeth. I've been real happy with it so far, but it has been limited use. See my post from yesterday under JD4400 Owners Journal. If you need to dig in anything except sand or work with rocks and boulders, a toothbar is invaluable. Jeff

Whew Ken..Thanks for all of the thought that went into your mini series. You brought up some great points. Now if I can only find a BX model to look at!! 3 semi local dealers have none in stock and no time frame for delivery.

Is there any specific specification questions that you have on the 850 vs the 1050? I have some of the old JD literature that covers both of these tractors..
I'd have to look at it to double check the difference in tractor weight, but in general you want 4wd with a compact tractor. Both of these tractors offered the power steering as an optional extra. It is still available, and costs right over $1000. Also, as I remember, that 1050 was a turbo! And they sure are nice smooth running engines when they are turboed. Lots of farm tractors have been running moderate boost turbos since the 1960s. Unlike some cars, turbo tractors are very reliable.

Halsey, I haven't seen that 990 yet around here. From your description of the transmission H,M,L + 4 speed I wonder if JD finally got Yanmar to let them market that excellent shuttle shift transmission? Your description of the shift pattern is the same as the typical Yanmar shuttle shift. Back when Yanmar first started making the 650 through 1050 series, JD advertised that they were working on licensing that transmission but it never happened. Sure is a sweet tranny.
BTW, just so we don't forget them, the 650 series actually went through 1650 .... not just up to 1050. The 1050 is where a lot of us make a sort of mental cutoff of "compact vs farm" tractor - at least that is how I see them. The 1250, 1450, and 1650 were more of a small farm tractor than a compact. They were also 100% Yanmar-made.
