I really appreciate all the input on this site. It's helped me allot to narrow down my choices on what tractor to buy. I have it now narrowed down to the JD4300 and Kub L3010. I am a John Deere man traditionally however after trying out both tractors I am leaning towards the Kubota. The reason is the JD just doesn't seem to have the quality of the Kub. The GST is so smooth and easy to operate compared to the JD. The JD has allot of plastic parts and is an assemby of components gathered from all over the world. The JD according to the posts has had allot of problems with the way it was designed and engineered. I haven't seen anything bad about the L3010. I am wondering about resale value though (I'm assuming JD will fix all the problems). Is the resale any better on a JD vs Kub? Are there any factors that the JD has over the Kub other than you don't have to bleed the fuel lines if you run out of diesel? Thanks for your help.

Wind tunnel 3 point hitch 72 inch mower or rear discharge 72 inch mower. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? The wind tunnel is allot more money. I can see the windtunnel advantage over a regular side discharge mower but has it got any advantages over a rear discharge that would justify the price difference? I have a Kubota B2710 and have actually mowed my mom's regular size lawn with the rear-mount finish mower. And I brush hog 12 acres in about 7 hours with the same tractor. It is quite maneuverable. The only problem is getting the ROPS under tree branches. Its pretty hard to get a tractor thats too big.

Need to know trans-hydraulic oil quantity? I've been told that too much will make the oil foam real bad, and that not enough will damage internal parts. Please advise!!

I welded up a simple set of forks that bolt inside my bucket. Basically, they look like an "H". I had to drill 2 holes in the back of the bucket. I use 1/2" bolts to bolt hold the 2" square tube to the bucket. They won't lift as much as a 3-point set up, but all I wanted them for was to move some limbs close to the burn pile. Even using big washers, there has been a little distortion around the holes. Obviously this may not be a workable solution for you, but it worked great (and was cheap) for what I needed. Good luck.

The dealership told the bank my tractor package (bought from an individual) was worth $14,700 - 1998 NH1725 4wd R4 non-hydro 200hrs, Landpride HD 5' brush cutter, Tuffline 5' box blade and the 7308 loader. Of course, there may be a bit of a difference between what they told the bank and what they would give me. Good luck with the TC40 - I saw one at a show - They look good.

Thanks for the info.

I took a good look at the frontend today, I see that it has a single cylinder with one end stationary and the other attached to the tie-rod which is behind the axle. Can I assume that this is the (no scuff) design?

I will be moving large rocks so the HD bucket sounds like a good idea. Also i assumed the indicator was standard, Thanks for the tip! The weight sounds like a good excuse for the box blade :)

About a year or more ago I needed a new lawn tractor so I started surfing for the usual Cub, JD, found a site for them through Dogpile.com(multi-search). After reading that site decided I was tired of lawn mower engines and that every manufacturer had his on implements and none were interchangeable I linked off that site to this site and have been a steady reader since. The information I found on this site helped me choose a Massey Ferguson 1225, 5' rear finish mower, 5' blade, and a 50" tiller. Sure it is a lot of tractor for 1.5 acres but in winter I plow the retired neighbors drives up and down the street, in the summer play with the mower and blade. This tractor will last my lifetime.

From bestoldman the tiller you are looking at may be a 2000rpm drive shaft configuration.If it is adapting it would be expensive.

RE the hydraulic outlets, I was just at the orange dealer today driving a B2710 and asked about the F/R hydraulics. Per this dealer the loader hooks to the front hydraulics, the rear is a pressure and return capped conn. for hooking a valve set to. Not like you could hook a 3 point w/hydr to these conns. you need a valve and quick connects.

The only reason to use weight transfer with the scoop is if you need more brute strength to dig and carry a load heavier than you can do without it turned on. Then you may be limited by the amount of ballast on the rear of the tractor.

i've had ryan walk-behinds for several years.they are a well built and relieable machine.when it came time to buy a 3 point unit i looked at and tried land pride and olatha.didn't really care for either one.then i looked at a gandy.the seed spacing on the first two was a lot wider than my ryan and the land pride's closing system was a roler like used on a brillion seeder.also the land pride only had 7 seed flutes for a 48 inch pattern.the gandy was just like my ryan mat-away.seed spacing every 2 ihchs and a slit crinper for every spacing.i forgot to mention that gandy builds the seeder that ryan uses on their machine.i'm not saying that the others won't work but i prefer the gandy and the ryan.good luck.

Thanks for your responses. My TC29D with industrial tires arrives today. The dealer said I can swap them for turf tires if I want to, so I'll give them a try and then make a decision.

I dont know about weight on the hydrolic when mowing,however the instruction for my field mower did say that when transporting,such as driving down the road,the 3ph should be locked in the raised position and its control moved to the lowered position.I cant find any locking function on my tractor so i was glad to read about positioning chians here.Sounds like they could be used for this purpose as well.

Curious thing. I just checked the Firestone site and found max front tire pressures about 24 lbs. However, my Ford owner's manual gives a load table for up to 10 lbs. I wonder if the Ford engineers decided to use only half the load table because the front end or wheels they used aren't designed for higher loads. Or, maybe the tires stop acting like turfs at higher pressures.

Even so, the tire loads at 10 lbs. still carry about what the loader will lift. Guess the front end probably will last longer if I don't push the loader weight too much.

10 acres is quite a challenge for a 2160 (16.5hp). With a 42 inch slasher, and heavy grass the going can be slow, 4th gear maybe 3-4 hours for 2.5 acres. If the going is rough and windy after a while the guts can hurt, but maybe that the same for any compact. Turns lightning fast with brakes, better with front weights. Good engine. A couple or three cows to help keep the grass down sure helps.
