I just picked up my new 4600 hydro on Saturday. I traded in my 4300 hydro and one of first things I noticed is the difference in the pedal pressure required.
The new tractor is not nearly as jerky but it takes a little getting used to. When your backing up and take your foot of the pedal the tractor does not stop as abruptly as the older tractor. On balance I like the feel of the new tractor but I do have to be prepared to use the break more than before. I had 150 hours on my 4300 and the pedal pressure didn't change much during that period. My dealer check the linkage and lubrication but nothing seemed to make a difference. I think it is just part of the hydro design and you will have to live with it.

M.Sullivan, I certainly can understand your wanting to go with the B7500 because of the price difference, but I can also say, from your questions, you'll always wish you'd gone ahead and got the B2710. The B7500 probably has enough PTO power to pull a 5' mower, but it'll probably be too heavy. The dealer was right; stay with a 4' mower. The B2710 handles a 5' mower with ease. The same will be true of the blades. I don't know what the trailer towing rating is for the B7500, but my B7100 manual said trailers of 1000 pounds if I remember right (naturally you can pull a lot more than that if you're careful). The B2710 manual says for trailer of 3300 pounds with tongue weight of 800. Now the B7500 is certainly a nicer tractor with more nice features than my 1995 B7100 had, but the size and capabilities are not that much different, and there's just no comparison between them and the B2710 I have now.

David, When I had a B7100, I used the 4WD nearly all the time mowing my pasture for the same reasons you mentioned. Before I bought it, I talked to a dealer than rents a lot of equipment and he said they left the rental units in 4WD all the time. Now that I have a B2710, I don't need to use the 4WD, and don't, mowing my pasture. However, it's my opinion that you have nothing to worry about unless you're using the 4WD on a dry, hard surface like paved roads.

I have a 6" auger that isn't completely straight. There is a slight bend about 1/4 way down from the top. It's not severe enough to make it unusable, but it obviously doesn't spin true which makes it harder to guide and dig a straight hole.<br>Does anyone know a way to true it up?

Joe; You should get the larger tractor "4100" Kubota is also a good brand you should look at the B series. I'm a JD fan myself also I think one should a little larger than you think you will need.

Ford 1310 was predecessor to 20 series. Information from sales brochure, mid-80s, shows 19 gross h.p., 16.5 pto h.p. Hyd. capacity 6.4 gpm. Shipping wt. 2262 lbs. Engine 3 cyl., 58.2 cu.in. These are good tractors, just somewhat more crude than 20 series. Hope this helps.

I am considering buying a B7500 or B2710. I will have to clean my 1.5 acre yard out about 3 to 4 times on the average year. I am used to using a blade. Will any of these tractors be heavy enough to push much snow with a front blade or would a blower be better. (I know it's way more money for blower) I will be buying the tractor with a loader as well. Maybe the loader would be good enough?

It is nice to have access to this machine, I checked and it is a JD 2640. What is hard to justify is the price on these compacts. This 2640 with cab, heat, and loader(BIG), 1100 one owner hours,auctioned for $13500. Again, this is too big for me, and I need the compact. Of course my wife just says..."borrow Dad's.." She doesn't understand the need to own your own machine. Thanks for the input.

These prices are a bit high for my region of the country (south-central). Typical price for the 1500D here is about $3100 and for the 1610D about $3800. I recently purchased a 2310D for $4800, which is a typical price for this area.

I like what ever is quickest and easiest to download. This isn't a problem at work using a T1, but at home my 56K is useless because the phone lines only seem to support about 26.4K. These days, using a modem at this speed is almost painfull. OMO, I liked it the way it was before the coloring.

I'm considering buying a new Cub Cadet model 7000, which is 20 gross HP and 17.5 PTO HP. The dealer says it's the smallest tractor they make that will handle a 6' finish mower (pull behind). He says it will handle it under normal conditions, but if the grass gets too tall or is wet it will have problems with a 6' mower. Does anyone have any first hand experience with using a Cub Cadet model 7000 to run a 6' finish mower? If so, what gear can you mow in and how tall can the grass be before it can't handle it?

OMO, I think we've beat the JD 4000 steering/scuffing problem to death. But for the 4100 owner's who are also experiencing scuff problems....yet are being told the 4100 doesn't have problems...here's the deal.
Most likely driven by economic reasons, the 4100's front end Toe-in is factory adjusted by the amount of bend put into the solid none adjustable tie rod. If the rod managed to escape the factory without enough bend.. The result of this yields excessive toe-in. Mine for example has about 2" (I can visually see the amount of toe-in). Normal Spec is about 1/4"-3/8". The fix for this is a new tie-rod. End of story..

Look carefully at the kind of "kill switch" you have, if it is a mechanical style, like the 'old' tractors have, a pull knob in the dash area. It is connected to a valve in the injector pump, when you pull the knob, it opens the valve and the injectors will NEVER get any fuel pressure no matter how long you crank the engine over. Just crank the engine over as normal, if the engine 'kicks' a little it will help the process IMMENSELY since the starter usually rolls the engine over at the minimum speed req'd. to start at the best of times. Just stay well clear of the belt and fan while doing this. The other thing you can do is try spraying a little WD-40 into the intake while someone cranks the engine form you, (NEVER use ether, i.e. quick-start on a diesel) if you are lucky the engine will run on this and it will bleed the air out for you. If that doesn't work, and only as a LAST resort, try bump starting it by towing it SLOWLY behind another vehicle, preferably another tractor. Best of luck.

I have had a 755 and a 955. Both with belly mowers and loaders. I must say that is a lot easier mowing and not a lot harder to hook up a belly mower to the x55 series. Once I got used to it could do it in under 5 min easily. Last year i rained a lot in the spring and since I have +-9 acres of lawn to mow I ws constantly putting it on and taking it off. No big deal, sometimes twice a week. Needed to do some grading too. hope you like what you get, maybe your dealer will be as accomodating as the guys above. my 2 cents.

I really like the 955 for my mowing and landscaping applications. My number one consideration is that it has a hydrostatic transmission. I am totally sold on hydrostats for mowing and loader work. If most of your mowing is "open area" with few trees or buildings to contend with, a gear drive will serve you well at a lower cost. However, I think the hydrostatic transmission is a natural fit for most applications of a compact utility tractor. Operator station area has not been a problem for me--I'm 5'11".
