Regarding ROPS lights--someone should invent and market an all-purpose ROPS light package somewhat similar to a police light bar. It would bolt beneath about any ROPS (color doesn't matter) and be almost as wide as the inside dimension of a ROPS. In this light package would be a pair of forward facing flood lights, rear facing flood lights, and yellow or red flashers on the backside. Appropriate switches would be designed into the package. Such an item could be used inlieu of the regular tractor lights so the alternator/battery would not be overloaded.

Just curious. Do you turn the key on part way to the Run position and then watch the oil pressure light? While the glow plugs are on the light will be dim and then it brightens after about 3 - 4 seconds when you can start cranking the engine. There is no glow plug light on a 4100.

I can only speak to my John Deere 4400 tractor. After reading your post I went to the barn and crawled under my 4400. It has just one cylinder with a shaft running out of each end to the left & right wheels. This cylinder works similar to a rack & pinion unit on most newer cars. If as you say your tractor has two cylinders operating independent of each other, with one operating the left & the other the right front wheel than it appears to me the repair would be simple. All Deere would have to do is ajust the cylinders to get the angle right. This would not require a whole new front axle & cost $3000.00.

My 755 came with turf & when the fronts wore down I replaced them with 23degree firestones using the same rims.they don't tear up any sod unless it's locked in. It sure gave me alot more bit on the front when plowing & discing!

There's no place for Fords! Unless you want to lumpem in with New Holland which I guess makes sense...but maybe the category could be NH/Ford and drop the Boomer since Boomer is really a product name not a manufacturer. (and an awful name imho for that matter :-) For that matter what exactly defines a "compact tractor"? HP? Weight? Made in Japan :-)?<br>Prolly it falls into the category of "cant exactly describe it but I know one when I see one. In any case Ford especially had a very distinct line of compacts that were manufactured in japan 1X00 1X10 and 1X20 that predated NewHolland and whose owners would certainly not want to be known as Boomer Users :-)ThanksKim Hartshorn

I'm new to the web and this site so bear with me , I have just closed on a old ,overgrown 24 acre farm . after looking at all " colors" i had decided a jd 4300 would be fine for future taskof revamp and maintaining this farm ( for horses) Then I started reading more about the problems JD apears to be haveing with this unit and looking at what all I wanted to do and came to the conclusion that bigger is better so heres my ??? I can get a 4600 4wd w/ag tires 12/12 power reverser trans fold over roll bar and 4-hole valve for$ 17.500.00 seems like a good price but does this larger tractor scuff the ground like the smaller (4200-4400) version? I plan a total replanting of approx 18 acres into horse frindly grasses and dont want to replow every time I cut it in the future. I can get a 5210 for 14500.00 but dont think i want this large a frame tractor but would it be better suitied for general farm work (no haying) ?also i would like to here from any 4600 owners about the likes and dislikes of this tractor. <br> thanks in advance jerry<br>

I was doing a little surfing last night ,looking for blades to attach to front loader, when I came across a site for Task Master tractors. Does anybody have any experience or opinions about these units. I am sure they are cosmetically crude (good looks don't move dirt) but what about where it counts, mechanically.<br>Any comments or opinions welcome. Cliff

Happy Holidays and all. Bill, please share the parts list and suppliers of the filtering system you speak of. Sounds like it kicks ass! Bo, thanks for the papers. It points to the need for better filters for sure. It sounds like bill's filter would work great on dino crap also. The water thing is a big problem for most all of us in the moist parts of the country.

Has anyone had experience with rotary filters. The ones that are a cylinder with a hole on the end and spin, pushing all particles out to the walls and traping them there. They are refered to as the ultimate filter. I guess Fram and the others will not allow them to get hold.

Bo dont be drinking the stuff. Eve tho it may make the trip to the can a bit smoother. Also corn oil has been linked to brain cancer. Thats why I use olive oil. :-) I wonder how extra virgin would work in a crank case.

Did any one find a place to post the papers yet. My hoster would give me the boot for sure.

I don't own a 306 crawler but I did some consulting work for Alamo in the "Rhino International" division. Great Idea, Great features, poor construction, poor reliability of components & machine. Someone else needs to make this unit with some "jap" engineering & Q.C.

About reel cutters, I had a three gang setup made by toro that was from a golf corse to cut my 5 ac. While they do cut nice they are a pain to sharpen and you have to cut the grass all the time (like 2 to 3 times a week). Plus if it gets over 2" from your last cut it just folds it over and misses. The ploblem with flail mowers is the long roller will dig up the yard on tight turns and is not for finish mowing. The best is what Bird has stated and I have the same 5 ft. Howse rotory cutter and a Ford (made by Woods) 6 ft. 3 pt. finish mower. I use a Kubota B8200 HST but am looking at a B2710 with 100hrs. on it. If I can get for $13k all I will need to add is a loader. Hope this helps. Von

I own a NH TC21 w/ front loader and was looking to purchase a suitable 3ph finish mower sometime between now and Spring. I've seen a Woods 5' rear discharge that I really like. It would be used for cutting 3-4 acres of semi-hilly terrain. Has anyone used and/or seen this combination together. My concern would be if the TC21 has enough hp to power the mower.

Larry,the poster who recomended to purchase at a truck stop is correct, however mixing No.1 (also known as Kerosene without the addatives) with No. 2 is exactly how things are winterized. It is not generally that high of a concentration (50%) but the No. 1 is lower in parafin, which is what gels in the winter. You will see a slight drop in HP, but not enough to worry about. Water is indeed a big problem, so drain your filter regularly, and do use a quality addative. It can make all the difference in the world, as most add lubricity and lower the gel point. Go with what a local trucking firm uses, although ones mentioned here are good too. ONE THING FOR SURE, NEVER EVER MIX deisel and Gas. Mixture can be explosive, and is SPECIFICALLY mentioned in my New Holland book, as one of the things not to do. Just because someone has gotten away doing something for a long time, doesn't mean it will not explode in their face someday, litterally! Bill

I have a 755 also. I've turned the wheels to both positions. the lug bolts are tapered. I've had mine since 93 and no problems..

Just a note, percent grade can be more easily understood as being the rise divided by the run. For example, if the grade rose 12 feet in 100 feet of horizontal distance the percent grade would be 12%.

The pipe is welded to the end of the existing exhaust and has a bracket that is just under the hood so you can still pull the screen of the front of the tractor. I can't open the right engine sheild as far as I could before but It comes off easy. It cost me $25 for this to be done.
