"Hopefully" I'll need to plow snow this winter, Unfortunately, I'll be using the loader bucket until a better solution is bought. I'm concerned about using the bucket against the cold pavement. Because of accelerated wear on the bucket, and potential damage to the blacktops surface. Has anyone put temporary shoes on a bucket? I'm not a big fan of drilling holes in the bucket, especially if this ends up as a temporary thing. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I gotta check first.<br>

I have a rear blade and a new asphalt drive and need to know if anybody makes "shoes" like truck plows have to float over the driveway to do the snow? I am worried that the heavy blade will tear up the fresh asphalt when snowplowing. Is this a valid concern or will my boomer in the float position with the blade down work fine? Thanks.

It was me that mentioned the Brush-Brute, I have not been able to find them on the Net anywhere, but they are made by a very small company here in Canada, so not surprising. It goes on in place of the bucket, the principle being it tears the brush out by the roots, not just cut it off at ground level, this means no stumps, or regrowth from the stump (sometimes called "suckering"). I (as a landscaper) have tried MANY ways to get rid of scrub brush, NOTHING is faster. If I can find an address, e-mail, or snail mail, I will post it.

After months of weighing my intended uses and studying orange, green, blue, and red compacts (didn't really consider yellow) I plan to purchase a JD 4300 HST 4wd with 430 loader, 48 backhoe, and 60" belly mower early next year. The info exchange on the 4xxx problems has been invaluable; I didn't buy last month because of the the front axle issues and made it clear to several dealers that I was holding off until JD acknowledged and resolved this problem. I consider this my small contribution of economic pressure to help solve the problem. Thank you to all contributors to this (somewhat lengthy) thread and related threads on 4xxx issues; you've helped me incredibly!

Congratulations to CTB on its first birthday! This is the only board that I regularly visit and I find it invaluable as an information source. I applaud especially the civility and focus on generic compact tractor issues, while still covering the useful (and sometimes entertaining) comparisons on color preferences. I appreciate the time folks like Roger L. take to explain topics in detail as well as the contributions from everyone on problems/defects experienced on different brands and models.

The sub-topics woodlot mgmt, hobby farming, and home-grown solutions/inventions would hold the most interest for me. Keep up the good work!

PS - Wish we had a dealer as supportive/involved as Carver around here.

I have a John Deere 2010 in need of an overhaul. I've heard this engine has been known as a lemon. Is there another engine that will fit in it's place? I have a diesel engine so is there a gas engine for that tractor?Does anybody have a good idea to share on this?

Really wasn't all that cold. Loader had been setting outside and tractor was inside though. Temp was probably in the upper 20's. I brought tractor and loader inside and let set for quite some time. I had just changed engine oil and hydraulic and HST filter also. I did notice a leak at the hyd.oil cooler and tightened fittings, this was during prior use when it was warm. This led me to think I may have gotten some air in the system. After leaving the tractor inside for quite some time it still squalled terribly at full throttle. As I was taking it back outside to remove the loader I noticed when I lifted the loader some jerking. The tractor only has 50 hrs. on it so I can't think I have a hyd. pump problem although anything is possible. Any impute would be appreciated.

Roger -- been reading your posts and have been impressed with your knowledge. Bruce L just asked a question about the regen. circuit on the loader and what it is. I have one on my JD 870 and thought that it was a method of allowing a full bucket dump smoothly without slamming down. Mine also has a lockout. I never paid much attention to it cause The loader works fine. How about you take a few moments and explain the regen. circuit and the lockout in simple language. Would be appretiated. Bo

I used to have a John Deere 420 (garden tractor) and the number 44 loader. It behaved exactly the same way. I just put up with it and never really tried for a solution. I expected the new Kubota would work better. I have an old 742 Bobcat that will handle about the same amount of load as the Kubota and it certainly does not behave this way. What is a regenerative circuit? I think I remember about a regenerative circuit being used for hydraulic self leveling.

Jim, Check with your local dealer. The kit should still be available for the 1050. If memory serves, it will probably cost upwards of $1,000. And yes, you do need it with a loader. Without it, not too many people could turn the wheel unless the tractor is moving.

I bought a brand new 770 4wd in 1994 with loader, mid mower, and 513 rotory cutter. I love it. Has not missed a beat since I purchased it. Each one of the attachments get used a lot with no problems either. The tractor performs great with each one of them. As far as the price, I paid $18000.00 for eveything I listed. The specs listed in the other responses are right on. You won't be disappointed.

It's a L3650 the backhoe is a L4560 4wd and a glideshift trans. I hate people who screw up on thier messages and I just did the same thing---sorry and thanks in advance for any help in this matter. LA650 loader

With little to no experience with this kind of stuff I'm not sure where to start Our snowmobile club here in MN is researching a brush cutter/shredder to maintain our trails in the off season. Quickly searching the net, Loftness shredders seem to pop up everywhere. This unit seems like it might work. Our needs are to cut and remove or mulch saplings up to 3". I have a few questions: With the ocasional rock and stump sticking up, how will this effect the unit? Are they pretty tough? How low do they cut? We have two trail groomers with full hydraulic systems on each. Our plan is to attach a shredder inplace of the blade and get year round use out of it. Any information you guys can provide on Loftness or any other brush shredder will be great. Thank you.

Eric,

Be very careful here. If you plan to do any mowing or other PTO operations with the tractor, I would recommend staying away from the 1715. The trans driven PTO (not live) is a real hinderance. It would be a fine machine for loader and/or backhoe work. I know, I had one for a year and ended up selling it because of the PTO.

Steve,If the majority of the work your needing to do is mowing and snow removal,than you have answered your own question.The front mount type mower would be great for mowing,but not worth a poop for pushing snow.I would think the tractors you've mentioned would be a little big for what your wanting to do.I would like to recommend something a little smaller,such as the Kubota B2710.It's light enough that it's a great mowing tractor,will handle a 72" deck with no problems,and it can be equipped with any snow removal tools out there.

I have a '71 Ford 140 LGT, 14HP Kohler K321 Engine, w/front-end loader<br>and rear scraper that has been a real work horse for me over the years<br>while getting our 2.5 acres landscaped and squared away here in San<br>Diego. John, Sounds like a real fair price. Sounds like the seller has factored the narrow front into his price. Real bad combination, narrow front and loader!
I would reccomend getting a used J.D. wide front rather than aftermarket mainly because of the loader. They usually run about $1,000 from any tractor salvage and as Roger said changeover is a snap with the right supporting equip. It may be worth having a dealer do it for you. Two hours shop time max. Good luck.
By the way, if you end up with a single 16" front wheel and fork, I'll buy it from you. If it's a tricycle front,(dual wheel)I doubt anyone would want it.
