in response to bucket drop, i bought a new 3600 kubota with 680 loader, it now has 23hrs on it, in order to close my gate in the barn i had to leave the bucket up . after one week i came back and found the loader laying on the gate, it had droped about 2 feet. is this normal? now when i park it i stick a 2x4 between the grill guard and the bottom of the loader.

FINALLY!!! Ted has seen the light!! Here is my take on this "heavy" tractor statement from Mario. My lawn is 2-3 acres, and was an old pasture when the previous owner built the house on it. It is very uneven, has some hills, and will be next spring's project to make it smooth. When we bought this place in the summer of 97, we had two lawn tractors, a 36" cut and a 46" cut, standard duty version (the kind you would buy at Walmart or Kmart, 11hp. and 18hp respectively). With 2 tractors, it would take us 3-4 hours to mow all of this due to mowing around the trees and the rough ground. When we finished, it was almost dark. The next night we would trim. (2 nights worth of mowing) Then in a couple of days we were back at it again. Our backs were still sore from all the bouncing around 4 nights ago on that rough lawn with those little tires. We finally bought a compact in December of 97. With a 72" mower, larger tires, more powerful engine, and a spring-suspended seat, I can get it done in a little over an hour. I can trim the same night. This leaves 3-4 nights of free time between mowings. When I work 55+ hours a week, this can really be a time savings! Not to mention no more backaches from rough turf. And if you look at the commercial mowers that a lot of companies own, something that is a 50-60" cut, they could easily get up to the $8000-11000 mark. And you can't hook up a real loader or tiller or box blade to most of those units. My 4300 will perform these tasks, at least that is what it is advertised for. I can also say that my Boomer or 4300 did a much better job mowing than the little puddle jumpers did. Except I have to make much wider turns with my 4300 than I did with my Boomer with supersteer. One more comment, Ted.... The webpage from Dana that I referred to a couple of posts ago DOES say that the axle is an all-new design, and incorporates an integral power steering cylinder to achieve a 62 degree steer angle on the OUTBOARD wheel. It's funny how they made mention of that outboard wheel angle.......it's the wheel that ALWAYS cuts up the turf. If they backed off on that angle to agree with the turn angle of the inboard wheel, I personally think this whole posting could have been eliminated! But we would still take you up on the beer, Ted.

I looked at the Boomer TC29 and TC29D today at a local dealer (Northern Calif.). They had a couple rental returns (TC29) that looked like new and only had between 100-200 hrs. The price for them with a loader was $14,500 (+ tax). They did not have any rental returns in the TC29D, however, I was quoted a price of $18,200 (+ tax) for a new TC29D with supersteer and loader. I'm still deciding which model to purchase.

For what I can tell, the differences between the 20 series, 30 series, and boomers in mainly the "skin", the addition of a few (very nice) creature comfort features such as the swivel seat, electric hydrostat lock, etc, and the availability of hydrostat transmission with higher hp engines. I believe the 20's were manufactured by Shimbaru in Japan and imported pretty much assembled. It appears the 30's and boomer's are also manufactured by Shimbaru, but without the hood, fenders, etc., which are added in a final assembly plant in the US (Georgia?).
My only comment about the 1720 is that it won't have a hydrostat, but probably has the 12x12 shuttle. If you are going to use it for mowing or snowremoval with a snowblower, I would strongly recommend a true hydrostat. The hydro will save time mowing and snowblowing is easier when you can instantly vary the ground speed to maintain the proper snow feed rate. For typical loader work, I understand the shuttle works great.

I'm thinking of going the "build my own" backhoe route too.
May I ask how much you spent on materials to build the 808?
Did you buy the kit too, or just the plans? If you purchased the materials separate, was it pretty close the price quotes on the materials list that CadPlan co. estimated?

I had a similar problem with my Ford 1700. I took it to the dealer. Turned out the hydraulic filter was stopped up. I hope that is all that is wrong with yours.

In response to the 4100 Tractor it is assembled completely overseas buy a company that John Deere bought three years ago I believe the name was (Shibotzu)That Tractor Factory is run by Deere and they assemble the 4100 and (2) European 4000 Models. The Engines are still purchased from Yanmar along with a contract for approx 1000 Tractoe units per year for the next five years (790) a direct replacement of the 770 tractor. As for the rest of the 4000's series they were born in Augusta Ga approximently three years ago. The same engineering team that developed the 5000 series tractors developed the 4000's of today and the engine is still purchased from Yanmar at least for now...

I agree with Vince. In addition, I believe the 1720 and 1920 did not have hydrostat transmissions available, they have either manual gear or the 12x12 SSS (synchronized shuttle shift) transmissions.

My father in law has purchased a Hinomoto E-222 tractor. Think its about 1995 model? Anyway the labels/stickers are all in Japanese. Has anybody got any leads on how to get English stickers or even translations of te existing stickers so he knows what they mean. Any help appreciated.

As long as travel speed is not an issue you should be ok, BUT, the others are right, rear ballast is a MUST. If you are going straight up/down tipping is not a problem, traction (go power & braking) is!! Also PLEASE pay attention to the remarks about seat belts, if the machine loses traction under only one wheel you will be cross-wise on the hill faster than you can say .... OOPPS!! A good rule of thumb for ballast is to add 35% of the dead weight of the loader plus the weight of the "cargo" to the 3pth (50% of loader, plus cargo if adding wheel weights only).

After watching this board grow over the past year, it was a great help in determining what tractor to purchase. Am now a proud owner of a N.H. tc25d. The idea of a forum on hobby farms or compact uses and ideas would be great. I am looking ideas on how to move snow when all one has is a loader and a 5' scraper. Or any creative ideas anyone has on uses of different implements. Maybe even breaking things down into ideas for seasons. Thank you for creating a board that has been a wealth of knowledge to a compact young pup like myself and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the information on obtaining rolling circumference figures for smaller sized turf tires. I have actually determined that I can use a 315/75-16 truck tire to obtain the diameter & r/c I need without having to downsize the rim to the 15 inch. My reason to go smaller is for a high density apple orchard. With the tight planting I don't have much room in the rows so both narrow and short is better.

You might consider adding to the I&T manual with the original manuals. They are excellently written, no more expensive, and available via a phone call to JD. They also have specialized repair manuals for the duplex carb on your 520, the power steering, and the power-trol ----which is their name for the hydraulic system that controls your category 2 three point hitch. In the interm, I can look in my copy if you need any specific information.
