I think you're doing a great job with the compact tractors and equipment. I would not expand to large tractors, sports utility vehicles, etc. Why ruin a good thing?

We are looking for a Generator strictly for back-up purposes. Working for an electronics company, I'm far from worried about Y2K. I think the most that will happen is a "few" angry people, because of an error or software program oversight on a bill or something. But otherwise no-one will be going hungry or anything like that. At any rate, our necessities consist of a submersible well pump, oil furnace W/3 zone pumps. Otherwise, we could make due. I at least want to use bathroom facilities. Plus, 0-20 degrees outside, +wind will turn our house into an ice box pretty quick. Not to mention busted water pipes.
As rare as the event might or hopefully will be.. I always like to be prepared.
Furthermore...is it me, or do power outages seem more frequent in the past few years due to bad weather??

I am in the process of doing a similar task [now discontinued until spring]. I started with a box scraper [King Kutter from the farm store - heavy duty and inexpensive] and then used a tiller. I also used the loader, dragging backwards with the bucket edge down, to do some shaping. Once you have the area basically prepped, the tiller works great. After three passes, the top 6" is a nice fine consistancy. Unless you are going to do a lot of tiller work, I would suggest renting. You should be able to do the two acres in a day and the tiller is managable to haul home in a truck or trailer.

I am considering purchase of a Kubota B1700 or B2400, or maybe a B7500. My question is this, I have a 30 degree (58% grade) drop-off in my yard that I would like to go up and down. It is about a 15 foot elevation drop, can be approached dead on, dirt surface, no grass. I don't care how slow I have to go, 4WD assumed. I<br>would like to go down with empty loader and return up with 400 lb. rock in bucket. Is this possible with A) tractor with no implement, B) loader only, C) loader and backhoe. Would wheel weights make a difference. Thanks, <br>John

Who manufactures the front axle? I thought JD manufactured it? This might make it more difficult for JD to fix the problem. Keep in mind that the problem
might be in the relationship between the steering and the front axle. Is there any chance that those two components are made by the same company? If I were you I'd be making all the noise that I could on this thing. And not just depending on JD to fix the problem.

I want to say thanks to all of those good people that replied to my post. These message boards are a geart help to all who read and reply to those asking for help or opinion. It looks like that ole boy was tryin to get off into my pocket. I'll be looking elsewhere for a tractor.
Some folks say that good people are hard to find these days. Well, all's I can say is I didn't have any trouble find-in some good ones.

.....from my owners manual on my 3600. pto horsepower on the 2900 is 25; on the 3300 its 28. engine hp is 32.1 and 35.1 respectively.

I have a rear blade on my B-2100 and would like to use it for snow removal. I am told I will need skid shoes on the blade to make it work properly. Does anyone know where I can purchase bolt on skid shoes? The blade is old and I do not know who made it. Is there a universal shoe available?

Might want to go by a Case/IH dealer. Their utility tractors have a super-simple ROPS, that any reasonably good shop could copy. Wouldn't be gov't. approved, but if it saved a life, who cares?

Used an older Sears riding mower (8-10hp) for quite a few years, at the farm I worked at as a kid. The owner made me mow tight up against the high tensile fence and field roads, which included big rocks and young tree like bushes. I would tell him about it....He didn't care, he wanted it mowed...So I mowed it!! week after week, year after year.... Anyway, I would never buy one, because they remind me more of a paper plate than fine china. I will admit to abusing one for many years without more problems than one could expect from a "name brand" unit. So to that extent.. "ata boy" for Sears. I still stop to look at the new units and can definitely see "cheap" has been engineered in over the years, like so many other things now days. Like my father, I take care of my stuff to the point that it looks new when its 10 years old. Others could put dents in an army tank, operating on its second motor after only 3-4 years...I guess it boils down to what you expect to get out of it. I'm more of the long term guy. Others are better eating off of paper plates.

There is a LOT (one heck of a lot) of posts on the JD 4000 series tire/axle scuffing problem. I'm an experienced owner/user and I have provided turf care with both the 55 and 70 series machines up to the 1070. None of these machines would tear up turf (except in 4WD) when used at a reasonable speed - even when turned at maximum lock! None of these machines would leave rubber marks on concrete (except in 4WD) either! I recently took delivery of a JD 4400 HST and it definately has a steering geometry/axle geometry problem. I am working with my dealer to rectify the problem and I fully expect to have NO steering problem when this is over. If I am not satisfied then I will pursue other alternatives until the problem is rectified. Other than the steering problem, I love my JD 4400!!
