Kwschumm, opt for the welder, you can fab up all kinds of tractor goodies for a lot cheaper than you can buy them. Ive made forks for front and rear of my tractor for next to nuthin. Just tell the wife about all the money you'll save on the imps you wont for the tractor.

I agree with all here , go as big as you wallet will let you . with that much land you never know what you might want to do, and you don't want to have to small of unit when you start brain storming.with 2o acers to mow I'd probly be looking at something with aleast 40 hp,larger if you can swing it.

Mine really wasn't that bad to change out, filter was a little over tightened I though but I got it.As you said fluid looked clean but I had problem with my 3pt moving slow , It was a clogged filter, I too found metal frag in the screen.after looking at the book mine also says 400 to next change. but I won't be waiting that long considering what I seen at 40hrs.

It would work great for what your doing. I use mine to keep my road graded, I've also used it to rip sod off some of my plots before disking.I really need a hyd top link , that would keep you from mounting and dismounting tractor to set cut angles so often.

I think I'm just going to stick with the JD oil and forget about it, after all that is there recommened oil, an surely it's good stuff.

What I was saying is that if you have a lower riding machine you might want to mow more often , not trying to say it won't do it or nothin, just sounds like you'll be on and off the tractor a bunch i'f you get into tall stuff.

wish I would of went with the 6 footer , having some blade outside the tires would make grading go a lot easier as Tom stated.

The 790 3 pt. is working fine again after oil and filter change. It's hard to believe the filter clogged enuf to slow movement with only 40 hrs on it. I did find some metal shavings on the screen . I'm going to cut the filter open to see what it looks like inside , dealer stated it will be fairly clogged but thats normal in the 50 hr breakin.As far as the oil burpin out vent tube they said that sometimes happens and it not a problem as long as it doesn't continue. (Think I stumped them on that one.)Don't neglect trans service it could be the ruin of the machine.It probley should be done before 50, mine clogged at 40.

wasen't thinking about corroed problem when i put it in a few years back. so far no problems yet, I would really like to get the big 27 incher kit they have so hopefuly they will rot soon. LOL I'll keep that in mind when i get new ones.

I heard you need to adjust them slip clutches often to keep them working properly, seem to me if they were out of adjustment they would just slip a lot , and probly burn and glaze over quicker.

I engage mine at lowest idle and just easy out on the clutch thats probley slipping the clutch abit but it does not seem so brutal when starting up. mines not a 4000 series but it's a 790 with a two stage clutch. i've found no other way to do it lightly.
