Dennis, thanks for the compliment on our shed.

It's difficult to say exactly what the material costs were for the shed. I built it shortly after the house was built and some costs were part of the house construction (slab, siding and shingles for example). Also, the electrician ran the cables for the generator at that time. My guess would be somewhere around $7k total.

This shed is about 100 feet from the transfer switch in the basement. The electrician for the house sized and ran the power lines. Voltage drop is a bit of a problem for the low voltage starting circuit, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I need to rework it with relays but it's not a big effort to walk out to the shed to start it there. At 185 feet you could account for voltage drop by increasing cable size. There are standard formulas for that and are probably online calculators for sizing cable that accounts for drop.

After the shed was built it started to settle a little and this picture was taken as I was building the retaining wall to keep the shed from sliding down the hill.

On the Tacoma I bought an extra set of four OEM alloy wheels and mounted regular steel stems and tires. I bought the TPMS sensors on eBay to use but the dealer wanted $200 to reprogram the system with the new sensors so screw that.

The Baja is a 2003 so no TPMS (yeah!)

On the Impreza I pay the tire shop $55 to do the changeover with the original wheels and TPMS sensors.

Auto Restorer magazine did a series on battery maintenance charger in the last six months. IIRC you are basically correct, but *some* AC maintenance chargers will not fully charge a battery either. Most of them seem to indicate in the directions whether they can or can not bring a battery to a full charge from a weakened state. Those that can desulfate the plates are more probably more likely to. It would be a good idea to do your online research at the manufacturer web site for any specific model before buying.

I do keep a clipboard with maintenance, service and repair records for our geothermal heat pump because it is such a POS. For the tractor I keep all receipts in a file, grease it after each use and sort of just remember when the maintenance was done based on the hour meter. For cars I keep receipts in a file and fill out the owner maintenance records. For pressure washer, generator, and other small gas equipment I just change the oil at the beginning of each summer as needed (two cycle excluded) and do the plugs and repairs as needed. Sort of a hodge-podge system but it works for me.

For a long time I thought it was just me so I got in the habit of having the manual handy and following the instructions to the letter when starting the darn things. They still start hard when following the instructions to the letter. Maybe starting fluid is required. Maybe they just don't like cold and/or humid weather. Maybe that are just dooty! No Hondas for me, that is for sure.

Sometimes I work from home but usually not. The policy allows it but the project requires working with a big rack of computers and diagnostic test equipment so it's usually not feasible. The commute is only 20-25 minutes so not too bad.

I've been wrong before but don't see why it would matter.

Pressure does the lifting, the engine/pump builds pressure, it's a matter of how fast you want the implement to rise. Since there is no direct mechanical coupling between engine and 3ph maybe it's just a matter of operational speed.

It's difficult to say without more details. Is your monitor built with composite (RCA) inputs? Or is it a VGA computer monitor? Does the camera have the ability to disable modulation and just provide composite output? Is it a digital network camera that is soft configurable?

The problems depend on the tractor, hoe and 3ph strength but the simple ones are arms bending and breaking, and if they don't break castings sometimes break. Another problem operationally is that most hitches don't provide downforce so as you dig down the hitch wants to move up so I assume they have some method to restrain that movement which would shift the stress somewhere else. Regarding hydraulics, I'd look into getting some more valves built onto the tractor (JD probably sells additional SCVs that add right on) rather than an external pump, seems like it would be easier to hook up but I'm not sure about cost differences.

Not sure what code would say about it but it sounds like a prime opportunity to relocate the oil fired heater to the outside of the house. Maybe you could build a three-wall addition outdoors to contain the heater, run the pipes through the wall and provide a drainage channel away from the house. Of course everything would need to be insulated well but it seems a lot cheaper than the repair bills to a finished basement.

Bleach and copper should be OK, millions of gallons have been dumped down plumbing drain lines for years. No need to do full strength to kill what needs killing.

I've had a JD 4310 (discontinued model now) for around 9 years now. It has been rock solid but Kubotas are excellent machines too. I would make the brand choice based on dealer support rather than color. A Kubota with an excellent dealer would be better than a JD with a lousy dealer and vice versa.

You will need to size the machine properly. If you will primarily use the loader, what is the weight you need to carry? How much snow to blow? Property size?
