I have a TC35D with loaded R-4's and a FEL. In upstate NY in the last 3 weeks we have had a 30 inch and a 23 inch snow storm. Both heavy wet snow. The tires hardly slipped and did a great job for me. I will never need chains.
I have no experience with clay but I do know you can NOT mow your lawn with AG's Frank

I thought I would be of more help but I cannot find my service manual at this moment. I did locate my operators manual though. Bird was correct on unscrewing the collar and not the bowl. My guess is that on the spindles (2WD) you will find something along the lines of wheel bearings and these you just repack with grease, i.e. no grease fitting (this is where I thought I could nail it down for you, sorry). The 870 is considered by many to be a solid, problem free tractor. This has been my case.

Most brands and models of tractors can have the rear tires and rims switched sides so that the rear tire width is wider and thereby safer. My TC35D became
12 inches wider (6 inches per side) by having the dealer switch them before delivery. Some models actully have 3 or 4 widths available by switching the relationship between the hub and the tire. If you leave the FEL on the added weight on the front will keep your front end down. Be careful Frank

I live in East Texas and there is no shortage of pine needles to pick up at this time of year. I use an old Sears sweeper that I inherited, pulled behind the B2400. Once you have the brush height set it works fairly well. The only problem is that the sweeper doesn't hold all that much before you have to run off and dump it. The needles don't compost very well so I use them as mulch in the garden and to cover the paths between the vegetable rows and just till them in at the end of the year. If someone comes up with an easier and better method, I'm listening.

My 870 did the same thing. My theory is this. Threaded fasteners loosen due to relative motion, i.e. parts moving relative to one another. Since all the surfaces involved are flat and perpendicular to the axle, clamping forces alone are what prevents any relative motion. Keep in mind that the wheel center hole is significantly larger than the boss on the hub to which it mates (in terms of the relative motions involved) so it is not providing any assistance in preventing motion. These mating surfaces are also painted and it may be that these high clamping loads are "extruding" the paint or making it flow if you will and hence relaxing the clamping loads to the point that relative motion begins. As was noted earlier, look at the conical mating surface between the nut and the wheel in an automobile. This geometry would absolutely prevent any motion. Also I have noticed that the back of the wheel is always periodically relieved or has contact points which are small enough to effectively penetrate the paint and make positive metal to metal contact. I have not had my tractor wheel loosen since and maybe it is because of the high torque I am applying along with the paint curing and hardening. My experience is limited here so I am not sure.

Stephen, I have assisted my father on several field burns. While the growth results of a successful burn is amazing, I have come to the conclusion that man cannot unleash a more unpredictable force. Each one of these was a "hard" earned lesson; plow, disc or till a totally enclosed firebreak, never predict the wind, have on hand a backpack sprayer of water, carry drinking water preferably on the hip, and have PLENTY of help (this is the most significant next to a complete firebreak). Each burn will be a unique experience. The most alarming thing to me was seeing my 70 year old father exert himself as hard as I was during one of these breached fires. I am threatening to take away the 1070 I bought him if he continues to burn. Burning is a sound ecological principle, I just don't want him doing it anymore.

To Gary Mason, Check your top radiator hose when your dial is at the bottom of the green area. If the top radiator hose is warm/hot then you know the thermostat is opening and you do NOT have a problem. If the top hose is cold and the small drain bypass hose is warm then you know you have the same problem as the rest of us. Your engine MUST get to 160 before the thermostat will open. If your engine is running at a temp under 160 then you are going to have a deisel that will crap up the valves in time and give you big problems. Frank

This is a subject that is close to my heart. The Kubota L3710 with a cab would probably be my ideal tractor if I could just afford it. Ofcourse, I would still need to keep the B2400 for mowing the lawn because it is so light. I think the L3710 is the smallest Kubota tractor with HST that you can get a cab on. Like Bird, I live in Texas and that air conditioner gets more of a necessity every year. I don't have anything to add to the drawbacks of having a cab but I think I could live with them just to feel that cold air blowing. Last year I did mow approx 30 acres on the farm tractor without the air conditioner or even the fan and as the the other poster said it was absolutely miserable. Opening the windows in that 100 degree heat didn't make any difference and with the sun beating through the glass I was lucky to get out of there without getting heat stroke. I was saturated through and through and dehydrated. Not one of my more fun experiences but it had to be done.
It would seem to me that the L3710 would be an ideal choice for what your friend wants to do and I'm jelous.

This is indeed an interesting situation. These guys here have hit on points that ring with me: A)Terry's-"the treatment you may get when you need service", B)Also Terry's-"no different than going to him ten days later and saying you want to spend less", C) Roger's-"his augument that you should suffer so that he can gain" and D)Tom's-"Far better, I think to negotiate a solution". I once got sized up as an opportunity and had a Harley repair person swap his bad part for my good repairable part. I slipped in behind him early one morning and cornered him in his shop. After his initial surprise we quickly exchanged our issues and then he went into a screaming escalating tirade about me making him out to be a liar. Sensing this could get worse, I made the statement "Now I know your position" and left. Later that day he called and was very apologetic (and guilty) and "since customers matter" he would buy me a completely new part at no cost. The point?..Hold a discussion and end the first meeting in non-committal neutral way giving him time to digest your position. I don't recommend the sneak attach method I used but in that case it was warranted. All this being said it would be HARD for me to come out of my pocket with 560 more "after the contract could buy an implement" dollars. Assuming this is solely a case of him misjudging his profit, he should eat it.

To Larry in MI. and all the rest of you with TC's that will not warm up. I to have a TC35D and my temp gauge never moved. Your coolant is bypassing the thermostat by flowing down the drain tube on the right side of your engine and into the radiator and right back into the engine via the bottom radiator hose.
Try this just as a test to prove this theory. Clamp off with a pair of vicegrips
the rubber drain hose (gently so you dont ruin the rubber hose) In 10 minutes or less your gauge will read in the middle of the green. Then call you dealer and tell him to install a shut off or new drain valve to stop this flow of coolant.
This is the 1/2 inch black rubber hose on the bottom right that the drain valve is connected into. Be careful your vicegrips dont get into the fan blade. NH is working on this and is aware but they are keeping it a secret. ALL of you who have been writing about puting cardboard in front of your radiator to get it to warm up also have this problem. Try this test then call your dealer and insist on a fix. Diesels must run hot, you will damage your engine if you run it cold.

It left a nice burned spot on one of the crank journals and it's mating bearing but I never did seem to have a problem from it either. Anyway, I learned several things 1)I always drain the block 2)Faced with a similiar repair again I would ground to the block, 3) A knowledgable welder can repair cast iron with special rod 4) I've since read where preheating part of the block with a torch and rosebud significantly helps this repair along with peening, 5)there is a certain amount of info on this type of repair on the net if you conduct a search (Sorry I'm no help now on where) and 6)I never weld on anything attached to the tractor (but I might if I ever HAVE to with special care to grounding).

I tow the Befco 6' mower behind my Kubota B2400 without any trouble and I feel I could handle the 7' model just as easily. I felt that the 7' model was just too big to get into and between some of the trees that I have to mow around. The only negative thing about the mower was that it tended to leave windrows of cut grass if for any reason I let it get too tall or cut it when it was wet. Some of the grass I have to cut on the bottom part of the garden is pasture grass that I am slowly reclaiming. I installed a mulching kit that pretty much cured the windrow problem but it meant that I have to mow at a slower speed. Still, I have the time and it's better than those unsightly clumps of grass that have to be picked up. If your land is relatively flat and open and the grass isn't too tall or tough, I don't think you will have a problem with the 7' mower. It will be harder to maneuver though.

Well I did it. Ordered my TC35D today. Price was great $18,200 included 16LA FEL, loaded tires with tubes, welded hook on bucket and rear wheel valve stem protectors, and block heater. I decided on R-4 tires because they seemed to be in the middle of the road. Besides they are 8 ply instead of the 4 ply R-1's.
AND R-4's were $550 CHEAPER than R-1's. When I asked about this they told me that the reverse is true of smaller tires where the R-1 is cheaper than the R-4.
Thanks for all your help that enabled me to "make up my mind".

Hi you all- I read TC45D's have been recalled to repair a HST problem. Have any of you also had a recall? Is this a big problem?I'm ready next week to buy a TC35D but will wait if HST's have a problem. Thanks also for all your other posts recently. You are really giving me the info I need to decide. Dave Wells .... you're my hero. I usually have to trade off with my wife every time I get a new toy for the tractor ... build her a new deck in exchange for for a tiller, etc. At present I'm working on a post-hole digger and landscape rake for a spa. I think I'm getting shafted on that one but ofcourse I NEED the post-hole digger to build the deck. That one man, gas driven post-hole digger (like the walk behind tiller) is getting to be more work than I care to do these days. More power to you and keep up the good work. You give us all hope.

Yea, I think I'll just have to get out the old pencil and paper and see if I can design a system with a timer, PVC pipe and soaker hoses. Should be fun. I could use sprinklers but like you I'd rather put the water where it's needed. The only problem I've found is that during the summer varmits will chew through the soaker hoses to try to get to the water. There has to be a good, efficient way to do this, I just have to give it some more thought.

Do you have experience using R-4 tires on a 4WD, 35 hp, with loader on SNOW.<br>Do R-4's push snow without chains? Would I be better off with AG tires. I am going to purchase a new "Boomer TC35D, next week and I have my choice of tires. I know I will be using in winter to move snow and in summer on my fields and in the woods. I want to buy a TC35D but I live in northern NY and have been told that others have had problems warming up their Hydrostatic Transmision. Have any of you had problems with your Hydrostatic Trans in very cold weather, like "needs 30 minutes to get the oil warm enough so you can move". Or noisy transmission and very sluggish when below 10 degrees? Would this cause problems/damage to the transmision? Please send your observations. Thanx Frank

$Thanks guys. I just wondered if I was missing something. I have 3 jacks at the house but there was no place to use the Hi-Lift and the 2 bottle jacks were just a fraction too short. I didn't try my 4x4 truck jack. That should be high enough to handle it. It was just that in my younger (and stupider) days I had a vehicle come off the jack and one jack slowly disappear into the soft ground even though it was on a piece of wood so I like to be careful when when changing wheels these days. Engaging the 4-wheel drive is a good idea Murf, I never thought of that one. Anyway, thanks for the advice. When it happens I'll be ready.$ Fixing Flats
