If your area in not any bigger that that, Lowe's and HomeDepot has a 4-5 inch magnet on a long handle. It works pretty well. The kids and I have used a couple of them quite a bit.

I know what I would do. But it is not what has been suggested (except for Art about the moldboard). I would buy a GOOD used moldboard plow, two bottom. That would get you down below the sod and break everything up really well. Then I would use a 7 shank field cultivator. Everyone around here calls them a tiller. They are real good for working a garden also. Not only will this work, but it would save you some money,

I am interested in getting a loader for a New Holland TC30 and see that Koyker mades one to fit. Can you tell me how they compare to the New Holland 7608? At first glance the cost seems to be a third less $3400 to $ 2400 and also have a higher lift capacity.Thanks.

Did the dealer take it back or was it Brush Hog that worked something to take it back? Was it a big job to get them to work it out?

I have not looked at all brands before assembly, but the compacts that I have looked at only needed the wheels, ROPS, steering wheel, 3 point arms and maybe the fenders.

An attachment like the one on Farm Show would work for a very shallow trench without rocks. If you notice the small wings in the picture, they appear to be skids to limit the depth. The farther out front you have something extended the more the front of the tractor will tend to dip down and raise the front-end of the tractor, that's why I don't think that it would work for anything very deep or rocky.

Yes, that is the setting that I would use. I have heard that some of the old timer plowed without the sta-bars hookup, but our compact tractors have shorter lift arms relative to the tire size. That is one of the reasons, I think that the lift arms hit more on our compacts.

The only time that I don't use my stabilizers is when I have my backhoe on.

I always get confused about percent grade vs degree of slope. Having said that, I think that anyone will get into the pucker factor at 22 degree. I mow all the time at about 20 degrees when going cross a hills on certain areas of my place, but no more. When I do this, it is a known area that has NO drop offs, ridges or bumps. Most places that are that steep or steeper, I mow straight up and down. You can mow to 30 or 35 degrees going up and down. Some may not agree with me, but I do this with bit of experience under my belt. And yes I have a tiltmeter, rather two of them. I use them for curiosity on slopes and to keep check on my pucker factor. The best use I have for them is to make grades, as in ditches and contouring banks etc.

That is a really good price. I had some made almost like the EZ-weights about 3-4 years ago and if I remember right, they cost about $60. I really like mine and would encourage anyone looking into wheel weights to either buy the EZ-weights system or make the hardware themselves.

I may be deaf but I don't think that I am. I can hear pretty well. I don't wear anything on my ears when I'm using my tractor. The reason is that I don't think it is loud. I never have any ringing in my ears or any kind of sound change when I get off the tractor at all. I have a MF 1250.

Talked to my Massey dealer last week. He gave me some pricing on compacts. They just got new prices in the last month and to my surprise they have went done quite a bit. I priced out a 1440-4 with Massey loader and backhoe and they were about $2000 cheaper now than they were in November. Like I said he said that he had just got the new prices. Have your dealer price you one out for order and see if it isn't cheaper. It may not be if he is just trying to get rid of what he has on the lot.

Make sure that your dealer has the most current price listing. I was at my dealer yesterday and repricing the same things that we priced in Novemeber. The same tractor, loader and backhoe had went down a whole lot. I want to stress a whole lot. He said that this was new pricing that he had just received. BTW he is a Massey dealer.

My lines don't go as far as you but I was told that the voltage drop(?) would be to much. That is why I had to go from 150 to 166 hp. BTW, I don't know how your battery is mounted but, mine was in a steel frame. I was always told that the battery would discharge into the concrete if you sat the battery on it . Now for what I am getting at. I think that the battery will also leach through the steel in to the concrete. Several folks around here have had the batterys not hold a charge. What we have done and what the installers are now doing is putting a piece of plywood under the battery and also installing a automatic trickle charger on the battery. Make sure that it is automatic though, you don't want to cook your battery to death. I got mine a W/M for about $20 or was it $30. I can't remember, all that I know for sure is that it won't charge the battery if it doesn't need it. The last thing that you need is for the genset not to start if you need it.

Wow, I had missed Murf but had thought that he was really busy again or out of the country. It never occured to me that he might be haveing a med problem. I think that I can say that everyone here misses him. I would like to wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he returns to JPlan quickly.
