I was thinking it might be nice if we all coordinated a camping trip maybe somewhere in the mid west? It would fun to meet all you guys & your wifes & cook up some hamburgers & hotdogs over the open fire while chatting in person. Does anyone have any suggestions to this & interests to doing this? I was thinking maybe a weekend trip?

It sounds like a great idea.

We could circle the tractors and have big campfire in the center.....LOL.

I think however, speaking as the guy who regularly gets 'volunteered' to organize family gatherings, that the logistics of just finding a date that worked for very many, let alone a location would prove rather difficult.

It might be easier to convince the women-folk if we planned it for a warm sunny location for a winter get-together at a resort destination.

Best of luck. ....

It would be very interesting. I do agree it would be difficult to get together all the details. I am sure it would be a blast to meet all you crazy people in person though.

Count me in.

It would have to be next year some time so every one who is interested can have time to make the necessary arrangements. ....

Probably a bit late for this summer for us, soon as the Old Threshers and Settlers Reunion is over in early Sept. we are headed for harvest, but if someone has any ideas for next summer let us know. Sounds like a fun time. Frank. ....

Maybe this thing could grow in into the "tractor guys" answer to Harley Week (LOL).

Organization and logistics could be a nightmare. A time and place needs to be established well in advance, and those interested would plan for it.

The Beagles would plan for it!! ....

OK...this is a good start. I agree with you Murf & That sounds good. I am going to start searching for A warm climate winter spot for all of us to meet at. Any suggestions would be helpful. This sort of event sounds like great fun. It would obviously be a big effort and expense for those of us who live a long way away. Maybe some regional events would be more practical. If it was in the midwest and the dates worked I could combine it with a trip to visit some relatives out Ohio way. ....

Sounds fun. Even though I am fairly new to this, I like to look at who is online when I am and also am finding out alot about personalities by reading responses. The Midwest would be great...I live in southern Indiana. Maybe the JD, Kubota, NH guys should have sites/rooms together for protective reasons...just kidding! ....

I think kschwumm has a great idea. Regional, possibly with staggered dates next summer would give everyone a better oportunity to be able to make it on a certian date to where ever they would like to attend. Maybe break the country into four or five regions with somone being the cheif of all regions and a sub cheif for each region. Those folks could then coordinate dates, etc., lighten the load for each and just pick a spot, set a date, see what happens. It's not too soon to start plans for next summer soon then everyone can try to make their schedules, vacation times, etc. work. We likely have lots of members with kids in school that can make a winter date a challenge. Any way next summer sounds great to me, someone just take the bull by the horns, set a date, time and place, we'll try our best to make it. Please don't ask,. my wife finnaly got me to step aside and let the younger folks handle these sort of things, it is a lot of work, so my cheers to anyone wuilling to take charge. Frank. ....

Grasgod, that is the good ole Hudson River. I used to have a larger boat that we took 1000 miles up the Hudson, out the Erie Canal, up the St Lawrence and Thousand Islands, and back down the Richelou, Lake Champlain, and Hudson. Went through 62 locks. What an adventure!

Dean - Do you have the room for a dozen couples or more? My wife & I would be willing to pitch a tent in your back forty.
As for the Grasgod name...It is an old nickname that started in High School. I was a mowing maniac & installing lawns like no other so my close friends started to call me that. Down here on the shoreline everyone takes their lawns seriously, infact maybe a little to seriously! Lots of rich & famous people around these parts. I also for the most part partake in chistianty. I'm not a holly roller or even close to a perfect person but I do take an interest in the lord.

Dean, I have worked hard on my waist size. No one will beat me! Many many gallons of (good) beer are consumed here. My wife is German and many years ago I got tired of returning cans to the beer dock. I got a keg cooler and we go through a keg every 3 weeks. I have a lot of (beer drinking) friends up here. The only people who like me are the ones I ply with beer :)

I made my own beer one year (200 gallons) and drank it as quick as I could make it. I now buy better beer than I could make. "Hurricane Kitty" is curently on tap from the local brewery. I will probably die early but obviously I have lived well. ....

Let's see I have several questions to answerer here.
I do not have quarters for 12 couples, just my home and the back forty which would be terrific but the potty line could get unbearably long. But I'll bet we could fix all of the above in short order..

The closest commercial airport is Tulsa OK 76 miles and the closest regional airport is Joplin MO. 56 miles..

This neck of the woods is called Green Country and basically materialized around the first major dam project in the 1940's ( still only one in 5 areas where you can own lake front to the water (some 60,000 acre feet of surface) with 1300 miles of shore line!!

No I do not work for the Chamber of Commerce!! But Rand McNally rated it as one of the top 5 retirement sites in the 90's, and it still is for me!!

I've never been to OK. & that would be neat in it's self.

I need to make a correcction to the acre feet contained in grand lake..

Official:Pool elevation is 742.33 feet on Saturday 28Aug04 Time: 2000 hours.
At this elevation the total amount of water stored in Grand Lake O' The Cherokees, Pensacola Dm is 1551521 acre-feet.

Now How would I house 12 couples ? There are many resorts here for visitors from Shanglara to Motorhomes to public camping sites, not to mention my back forty!!

Archdean,

I was in Grove and Jay the other day. It is a pretty spot and growing... The main road going to Holiday Island is under big construction! I think there are plenty of low cost nice hotels around there. Compared to most places in the US it is very affordable. On Airports you forgot to mention XNA which is Northwest Arkansas. It is also about 50 miles away from Grove. Is there still plenty of lake front property there for sale? There is a place near me called Bella Vista that was a retirement area and now the lake lots are $80K for anything with a view. OUCH!

Yes I did forget XNA airport I picked up some folks 3 years ago today and the trip to and from there hits every cow pasture in 3 counties ... so I normally just get on the interstate and spend my 1&1/2 hours at 70 MPH. It normally is cheaper to fly into XNA on puddle jumpers than The main jet routes out of Tulsa!! Just Habit for me to go to Tulsa actual time Driving is close for all 3.

Land is not cheap anywhere and basically unavailable here on the lake!! price is no longer the object, just trying to find lakefront is!

I'm in the book stop by next time you pass through our place!

Ok more good info, WX is always changeable here at Grand lake. March is the start of Spring time and along comes differential heating , I don't tie up A/C here due to the fact I am not interested in getting up a 3:am to move it in the face of T-Storms...

I will post a synopis of WX for this area in a link as most of us aviators know wx is the one variable we are not smart enough to change!!

I'm amphibian proof as I have a rocky shoreline , yes when I lower my dock (its on a rail system w/winch)into the water I have 12 ' of water but in the spring (anytime for that mater T-storms come on us suddenly due to the differential heating!!

Most welcome to tie up here but need to know what type and wing height above water line as I have a welded canopy above my boat and not sure you can get wing clearance!! we might be able to rig a triangle mooring arrangement from the tail!

Well, this first attempt kind of fell by the wayside.

What say we make a second try at it, this time we combine two things, a show and a get-together.

There's a big farm show in upstate New York I've wanted to get to for years now, the Empire Farm Days, August 9-11 2005 in Seneca Falls New York (midway between Syracuse & Rochester).

I know it's a long way away from some folks, but there are lots of us in the NE and it's sort of in the middle between the east coast and the Michigan, Wisconsin areas where we seem to have quite a few members.

What about it, a good chance to kick some tires and bother Art White while he's supposed to be working, LOL. ....

Works for us. Good opportunity to get into upstate New York. How far from Lake Placid would we be? Wife has always wanted to visit Lake Placid, we've never been there. ....

Seneca Falls is west of the Adirondacks some.

Lake Placid is about 250 miles further north-east, bu the roads are best described as 'scenic' so it is about a 4.5 hour drive.

I'm taking it easy but doing OK Steve, thanks for asking.

Hopefully a few others will take the opportunity to take a few days off and make the trip.

With where it is located it's a fairly short drive for most of the north-east. Most of the east coast north of Philly is little more than 200 miles away. I think Detroit is a little under 500 miles away. For those in the Central part of the country, Lexington KY, for eaxample is about 600 miles away.

The only problem is for those who are still gainfully employeed the show is Tuesday to Thursday.

Best of luck. ....
