I am looking at a used 2003 Kubota B7500 HSD with 110 hours and about 1 1/2 years left on factory warranty and with a loader, a used Woods 42" mower and a new Woods 60" landscape rake for a total of $12,625 (no tax). I also looked at a new JD 4115 with JD loader only for about $17,000. Is this a no-brainer for the Kubota? I am a widow and have about 11 acres, part in pasture (weeds) and part in timber with lots of pine cones on the ground and rocks galore.

You guys are familier with both the Kubota and the JD. Which would you buy or should a 70 year old widow even consider buying such a machine?

Thanks

Go for the Kubota but make sure they didn't stick some worn out woods junk on the rear end!! ....

I might add there is some room downward in the quoted price for the Kubota, but in any event it is a superior machine in my humble opinion!

Thanks for your advice Archdean. I have confidence in the dealer. They also have a used 4100 JD 4X4 with an enclosed cab with heater, fan, and radio with headlights on top and turn signals and removable hard side doors and a front angle blade. It has about 1100 miles on engine but they are mostly highway miles. According to the dealer, the guy couldn't get a drivers license, so he used his JD for transportation and to do some driveway clearing. With a new Woods front loader and new landscape rake, the package is priced at $11,525. Would this be better/worse than that used B7500 Kubota?

The 4100 is closer to the same features as the B7500.

The 4115 is longer, heavier and has more power and is more comparable to the B2710/2910/7800.

A well cared for Yanmar engine with 1100 hours should run many more years. I would make real sure that the after market loader will not interfere with a mid mount mower... assuming that is where you want the mower mounted. ....

If you haven't done so already; I strongly suggest a thorough test demo of each machine head to head. They are not comparable machines but you may find that the Kubota meets your needs and save a few bucks. On the other hand, you may find that the Deere 4115 ergonmomics are much more to your liking especially with respect to pedal postion and operator space in the seat area. Both are very nice machines but you should operate and test each out very thoroughly BEFORE you buy. Go with the machine that suits your liking the best. ....

I would more interested in the story of the guy who used his 4100 to get around , and for the reason why he couldnt get a license especially in Montana - do you even need a drivers license there? I cant imagine top speed 12.5 mph
getting around like that...:)

Well, Duc, you actually do need a driver's license in Montana...not only that, we also have a speed limit, can you believe it?

As for the guy who drives a tractor instead of a car, he traded the JD 4100 in on a new Kubota with cab in like configuration and plans to go from Hamilton, MT, to Georgetown Lake which is about 50 miles from Hamilton. How'd you like to be behind him on a winding, two-lane road for 50 miles?

Thanks to all of you for you help and advice. I certainly will take it into consideration and will let you know which one I choose.

Mamabear,

I hope I didnt offend you about the comment of needing a license in MT - I thought in some areas the speed limit is unlimited? Great story no less, good luck with the choice

No offense taken. A few years ago, Montana didn't have a speed limit but ticketed on the basis of unsafe driving. That means the Highway Patrol could stop drivers for any number of reasons, including driving too fast for the conditions of the road.

In NY we use a lot of salt in the winter to thaw the roads which sure does a number on steel! Normally the tractors after ten years have so much rust on them you need torches to remove the nuts! ....

I would go with the Kubota. I have a B7500 and it does very well for it's size. My 48 year old mother uses it around the house when its not at work with me. She can handle it just fine, so you shouldn't have any problems. Mine gets beat everyday when it goes to work. My 2 employee's are hard on it. I am a JD kid, currently 5 JD to 1 kubota. But the Kubota's are much better built machines.

As for the guy driving the tractor around. We got three of them in our town. One with a murry and trailer, one with a crapsman and trailer and one with a JD 445w/cab and tractor truck. All three guys are over 80 years old. You can tell which one has money. ....

Green, you keep repeating the story that Kubota's are better built, but aren't you comparing your JD garden tractors to a Kubota that is much more expensive? Apples to apples I think they are of equivalent quality. ....

Ken, there is always one manufacturer that stands out in nearly every area for everything. Deere builds as good of a tractor as the rest of the industry as the product lines go. They are not in the same league as Kubota for initial design or product integerity in this area. I have admired Deere for the support across there lines that they have given the dealers to enhance there products support in the field and I do believe they lead there although Kubota has made some great strides to bring up the level they offer. Much of what a customer see's hopefully is up to the dealer and his chosen staff and the manufacturer is only used for dealer support. ....

Initial design and integrity is in the eye of the beholder, and anyone here can look at any machine and pick out flaws. Quality is difficult to quantify. If you are rating ergonomic quality I'd say Kubota is poor (my opinion). If you are rating reliability I'd say Kubota is excellent. Ain't none of 'em perfect. ....

I agree with you Ken, But I will say The frame / chassis is very strong / heavy duty on my Kubota. I am definitly not saying the JD 4310 (comparible machine) has a weak frame just doesn't apear to be quite as strong. ....

Ergonomics is a variable from one individual to the next. We all don't wear the same size shoes nor have to walk in them. Quality of build isn't or shouldn't be a variable! But like the shoes, some like black and some like brown. ....

Speaking of shoe size..........I have one heck of a time operating my friends B2400. Really nice machine but there is just not enough room for my "clod hoppers". I really appreciate the dual pedal eHydro feature as well as the very open and large area operator's station. For a size 9 foot and below, the B2400 would be fine. ;o) ....

I have ran a lot of JD and Kubota tractors. I got more seat time sitting in JD than kubota. I grew up with JD. (I used to live in midwest) I know what I am talking about. The new JD can't compete with the Kubota. The older deere (1920-1950) smoked everything. The new ones can't anymore.

I am not comparing my JD garden tractors to my Kubota. ....

Green, you keep repeating this over and over and over, ad nauseam, but you never offer facts to back up your opinion. I looked at both, found both to be equals in quality and performance, found pros and cons to both, and have NO idea what you are looking at. Owners of both brands are represented here and all are generally well pleased with their machines. ....

The person who started this thread (MammaBear) has not seen fit to post on this thread for 3 weeks+++, aparrently she is no longer interested in what we have to say or purchased her neighbors used purple 3 wheeled tractor..
Now if I may be so glib as to ask? Why is this thread still active or are we still fighting Green, Yellow, Red, Orange, blue, Chaurtruse Tractors????

Correct me if I'm wrong!! Frankly I couldn't care less I have a lot more important things to do with my time!!!!

Kwschumm,
Thanks I couldn't agree more I like Kubota (own two)and your Deere's look good too, My brother swears by Deere but but he just bought a new Farmtrac550 and owns a big big Alice, what the hell I like and RESPECT them all, having said that I will become more opinionated with Airplanes and Hoppityclopters 13000 hours++ but then again there is the 3RD dimension to deal with!!!
Enjoy your post's

I apologize for not submitting a reply for so long. Thanks for keeping up this thread--I have been reading all your responses. The truth is, I did not buy either tractor and have learned a lot since I first posted my message. I think I need more power at the PTO to operate at least a 5 ft. rotary. But, I did decide to settle on the John Deere for ergonomics mainly and because I just like green better than orange. I'm now looking at either a 4310 or a 790 JD.

Thanks for all your advice
