Any of the "Big Three" Blue, Orange, or Green build good equipment. I'll just go back to my old stance of picking the dealer before you pick the brand, having a good dealership to work with is 90% of your satisfaction with the product with any of the big three. I've been a Green tractor person for years with the same dealership. My 4000 tractors have had some ocasional problems, but nothing that the dealer was'nt happy to take care of. I've never driven a 790 or a 990 Deere, but from my knowledge of them they are a more basic tractor than the 4000 series. There was a recent discussion on the board about the smaller operator station on the 790 and 990 tractors being uncomfortable for a larger person to fit into. I'm a bit on the rotund order myself but I find the 4000 series to be plenty roomy for me. Have fun shoping. Frank. ....

Frank summed it up pretty well. Dealer relationship should be as much a factor in your purchase decision as any consideration you are giving to the tractor and it's options.

All brands have service departments so that tells you they all break in some regard. Find a dealer you can forge a good relationship with. Not only for service work but any additional items you may want to purchase in the future.

Go to each dealer and "test drive" each unit you are considering. I've said it before...it's during this process that you will find out what the machine and the dealer are able to accomodate.

My $.02

Both of you guys are on it! I have NEVER bought anything in my life and had better service than when I bought my TC40. He made me feel like I was the only customer in the county even though I bought from 2 county's away. He made the DEAL, not The brand name. (although getting a discount had a small little bit to do with it) LOL
I had responses from, "call me when you want to buy" allthe way to, "I can meet you on the highway to save you 60 miles one way to sign the papers if you want" GEE who do you think I delt with? ....

Buyensell, I have had a jd970 for 15 years and purchased a new jd990 25 months ago. I am a gear driver, not as much to worry with in my opinion,I have only had one problem with 970 in 4500 hrs, the hydraulic pump cracked. Last week in her 25th month on my 990, the battery just died.My dealer just GAVE me another without question and it was out of warranty. ....
