Our company is looking into manufacturing a large backhoe for tractors 150hp and up. Any advise would be appreciated, especially during this product-development stage.

I've got neighbors who own heavier 3pt. hoes who hate them. they are hard to mount, destroy the 3pt. on the tractor and by using their own weight only for stability they flop around all over the place. You need to use a full subframe with a quick mount feature leaving the frame on the tractor while the hoe is off to simplify mounting the hoe and to take the strain off of the chassis of the tractor, similar to what my #48 Deere uses to mount on my 4000 series. Having the subframe extend forward far enough that a front end loader could be attached to the same subframe also would'nt be a bad idea that would relieve the tractor of the twisting and "Humping" stress that can be produced by a hoe bucket ten ft. behind trying to lift sometrhing real heavy out of a hole. Perhaps othere can offer more and better advice. Good luck on your new venture. Frank. ....

I'd say it would be a very limited market. The farmers in our area buy used excavators or TLB's when in need. The most of them hire it out as they are busy planting crops when they need to have the digging done. ....

I guess i wasn't really thinking if Art's part of the issue. Now that I think about it we have just the small #48 Deere hoe for the farm and when a bigger machine is called for we hire it done. I'm really hard pressed to think of a farmer in our aeria who doesn't own his own boe, most of them late model full sized hoes. Frank. ....

I think most farmers would be more interested in spending the money for a new or used mini-excavator. They are much more usefull, versatile, maneuverable, more reach and most have a dozer blade.

Every farmer in our area has his own backhoe. The guys without much money have older used industrial models like Case or Deere. Those with money used to purchase full size Deere units but have recently gone to Cat. Cat has some really, really big stuff with awesome financing plans. Very few farmers have CUT's except for those that bought/leased them with other bigger purchases for the spouses for gardening and odd jobs. Landscaping & building contractors on the other hand use the bigger CUT's with BH's for jobs. If they have serious jobs they use JD 5000 series tractors. I don't think much of a market exists since most doing serious BH work leave it on permanently for dedicated use. ....
