I have a Cub Cadet 782 Hydro. It worked great until I added some trans fluid ultra about a year ago.

I purchased the fluid from the Cub dealer. I did notice that the fluid's color is pink, whereas the fluid in my tractor is clear.

The problem that I am experiencing now is when I drive tractor, it jerks forward continuously. The only way to avoid that is to drive slowly until the unit warms up, then it works fine.

If I stop the unit for 30 minutes and restarts, I have to repeat the procedure: drive slowly and wait till the jerking stops.

Can anyone offer some suggestions?

PS: I notice the manual recommended IH TRANS fluid, whereas the fluid that the Dealer gave me was IH TRANS Ultra. Did it matter?

Thanks

I agree with Art, the filter is most likely clogged. ....

HELP . . . .

I went to the Dub dealer and brought 2 gallons of Hydro fluid and filter. Took the tractor out and it ran for maybe 5 minutes then the hydro died. The engines runs, but no hydro.

The hydro unit (control) feels very loose, absolutely no feedback.

I did notice some hydraulic fluid on the outside of the rear differential (between the two tires, under the seat).

Any suggestions? Do I have a BIG repair bill coming?

Thanks again,
HCW ....

Thanks . . .

How do I check whether I have air in the line?
It's sitting in the field now.

Should I tow it up and just replace the fluid and filter?

Thanks again, ....

The oil you had added is the latest, the clear oil I'm not sure what it might be. I think the next step would be to remove the rear end. The linkage might be the problem, have you removed the center cover to see where the leak is? ....

First of all, don't tow it unless the rear wheels are off of the ground!!! The hydro can be damaged.

I've got (3) 782's and a total of (6) cadets with hydros and none have ever failed. Sorry, but don't have any experience with your problem. ....

I did not remove the center plate. I was planning to ask my neighbor to two my cadet back to my garage first. Now I am really hesistant since I don't have something to lift the rear wheel.

As with the linkage -- where should I look and is that a replacement item?

Sorry for my questions, but as you can see, I am not familiar with tractors at all. I do have some basic knowledge of automobiles, not hydro . . .etc.

Thanks again, ....

I'm not familiar with Cubs but I'd think they would have a neutral on the range selector? If so, put it in neutral and you can tow it.

I'm not talking about towing it down the hiway either ;) ....

Yes.

There is a neutral (middle position) that I can leave it in. The lever feels really loose (with no feedback). . . Normally, it would give some resistance when I shift it forward or reverse. . .

Thanks again,

hwongusa

You should be able to tell when the range selector goes from one range to another or neutral, just by feel. If it's as loose as you stated, I would think you either had an internal or external linkage problem with range selector.

Just want to thank everyone for their suggestions. . .

Art - you were right about the linkage. The linkage rod has fallen off, but I found out the hard way.

After reading your message, I walked the field and looked at the tractor. But in hindsight, I did not find it because I had no idea what a linkage rod looked like.

Well, my neighbor was mowing my yard for me because my Cub is out of service, and we found the linkage rod -- after he mowed over the rod.

OUCH!!!!

Is that an expensive item to buy? Is it difficult to install? Can you give me an idea?

Thanks again,

....

Not having an idea as to what piece you have is my trouble. Yoour dealer should be able to find it in the parts screen and give you an idea where it should be. ....

Just want to thank everyone for their advice. My Cub Cadet (782) is running again.

After 3 weeks of mowing my 5 acres with a 22" Sears push mower (purchased back in 1987), I appreciate my little Cub Cadet even more now.

I still have one small problem. . .

The hydro fluid and filter have been changed, but I still have the same problem. During the first 10 minutes of running the tractor, the hydro transmission feels jerky. I have to drive it slow during this time. After that, the problem goes away.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again! ....
