Considering a 7254. Concerned about the smallest of the Cub compacts handling a loader, bushhog or other implements. Can any current owners comment?

That unit will keep up with all the other 25 horsepower compacts out there for performance. There are differences that might make a difference from one operator to the other but that is about it. ....

Cub Cadet shows a 7264 as their current model. I assume it replaces the 25hp version. I would be cautious about purchasing that unit if you're planning to do much brush-hogging and loader work. I have an older Cub 7275 and love it. It is a slightly different design tractor and I think physically bigger plus has a 3 speed hydro. The earlier JD's also had two speed hydros. I don't like them, high has to little power except to go from point "a" to "b", finish mowing and pushing 6" or less snow. My model was replaced by a Cub 7305. Base tractor weight is 2685 lbs. with 67" wheelbase. Loader has 1675 breakout capacity with 900 lbs. rating to full height of 100".
The size of tractor depends on the jobs you are planning to do with it. You will probably find that in many instances the tractor is either to big or to small for what you want to do. So far, mine has only been to big to mow under a bunch of trees with low limbs. Riding lawnmowers take care of that. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with 32-35 HP, however, I don't know your situation! If I had allot of money, I'd buy two (about a 22-25HP and a 35-40 HP)but I don't. ....

Hey Miller, Have you looked at the Mahindra line of tractors yet? They are just like the cub cadet, I'm not sure how big you want but you might want to look at the 2015 mahindra that is a 20 hp. Or the 2615 which is a 26 hp. They are price very reasonable! the 7205hst cub cadet is the 2015hst mahindra and the 7265hst cub cadet is the 2615 mahindra. ....

The 7254 is gasoline...7264 diesel. The cub is attractive because a local dealer has a new tractor (left over from last year) with 60" mid mower and loader at a good price. While I'm mowing 3-4 acres, I can use the manuverability of the smaller model. Bush hogging would be limited to the perimeter of the property a couple times a year. The loader would be pushing snow and grading a gravel drive.

Sounds like it is going to be a good match for your application. When you mentioned brush hogging earlier, I figured you would be doing some heavy duty stuff. My cub has a 72" MM and it works great. The deck has a good vacuum lift and really shears the grass clean. My feeling is one of the most important features is a local dealer giving you a good deal. ....

I purchased a 7254 fall of 2003. Used it in one of the worst winters we have had in central New York- 36 days straight of snow removal with the loader up to 8' high piles, in temps down to 20 below! Slow to start at 20 below but started every time- no problems with the Kawasaki gas engine- now broken in and smooth running. You will need to keep rpm up vs diesel, but that loader has a lot of guts.4 wheel drive was fantastic-smooth running hydro transmission- whines when cold but warms up quick-engine bolts checked- just fine--I was skeptical of the gas engine, but so far so good. I will be using 60" 3 point finish mower this spring. Bush hogging- no way- too pretty! I have an old Ford 8N with a hog just for that! Add some lights to the top of the ROPs on the 7254- that helps with loader work at night-I had back surgery last summer- trust me- if the CUB could not cut it I would trade it in 5 minutes! Best of luck with your search!
Here is an update - October 2004- moved yards and yards of mulch this summer, 20 yards of topsoil for berms, crushed stone for pads for my equipment, and pulled out some old rocks--even pulled up al old mailbox post concrete and all
dug a shallow "dry pond" and hauled river stone- all with the FEL-any doubts about this machine are gone- all with the 25hp Kawasaki- took care of a couple minor hydraulic leaks at the quick connects- thats it- it is a garage queen- more valuable than my car- the tractor stays in under cover until needed--did not cut much grass with the finish mower as it was incredibly wet this year in Central New York--all this and never saw the chiropractor!
I had some doubts about the engine but no more- just wish I had a backhoe! Upstate New York snow- bring it on!

The Cub 7254 has a Kawasaki 25 hp gas. I do not think the 7254 is what you are referring to. By the way, I checked out the new 5000 series Cubs- also with the 25 hp gas-not a bad machine but I like the larger size of the 7000 series for those 2 foot snow falls. ....

I have the 7254. bought it last august 50hours on meter. It is to small for what I want to do. My land has a forest and it has problems removing stumps. I have also a 35degree rock drive. It will not pull rock up with a finishing box struggles with just a blade. I will say it is a great lawn mower but i wanted a tractor. I am now in process of wanting to sell it. I have my eyes on the kubota L3110. I had planed on getteing the backhoe attachment for the 7254 but i don't think for a second the hydrolics could handle it. by the way very important to know the pto on this 7254 is elec. so wen you engage it you better be at full throtle. another note the hydrolic pump whines like nothing else you might also want to by a set of ear plugs. ....
