Does anyone know if there is a 3PT PTO Stump Grinder made for tractors in the 25 to 35 HP range?

We use a Stumpster (see link below) to clear access trails of stumps, but I would hesitate to recommend any stump grinder to a homeowner, they make a heck of a mess.

They certainly remove most of the stump, at least the part you can see anyway, but the result is a pile of dirt and ground stump all mixed together. If this mixture is not removed or sorted out the wood will decompose and as it does so the area will settle requiring top-dressing. This process of settling may last up to 10 years depending on the type of wood and the climate.

The other problem can be 'suckering' which is the natural preservation method of certain species, if the tree stump is alive when it is removed the roots that are left will sprout into new trees shortly afterwards, this too can go on for a number of years.

Best of luck. ....

Thanks Murf, pretty impressive equipment, that combo tree shear/grinder is something. I am going to be building a 100 yd chip and putt in the wooded area behind my house. I need to thin the out of bound areas and don't want to rip it all up with a hoe or dozer. I just want to grind the stumps down a little. ....

In some places, it's a lot cheaper to hire someone with a stump grinder than buy. I know it is around here. That is unless you have several hundred to do. ....
