Is there a backhoe for a JD 2210, or is there one coming out?

As far as I can tell, Deere brought out the 2210 to go head to head with the BX 2200, and they seem to be running four or five years behind the competition.

After looking at the way the frame on the 2210 is designed I would guess that it is not designed with a backhoe in mind.

Deere has had plenty of opportunity to address the backhoe question on small framed CUT's, but they remain fixed on entry level backhoes at the mid-frame 4210 level.

I am sure someone will sell you a small hoe that goes on your 3 point hitch. I personally would not use one of that design on a tractor as small as the 2210. ....

Even if a aftermarket one comes out I certainly will not want to use one. The transmission is made out of a aluminum alloy. Do you use a back hoe on yours mark ? I could make good use of one but this tractor certainly does not seem made for it. Does the Bx2200 weigh more than the 2210 ?

No, my backhoe is on the BX22.

The BX2200 weighs right at 1300 pounds. I don't have a brochure for the 2210, but it must be a little lighter than the 4010 which comes in at 1420#

I did a lot of research and reading which lead me to the conclusion that my 4100 and it's spin-offs are not suited for a backhoe. ....

Back to the original question about availability, my local JD dealer mentioned that a salesman had visited them about an aftermarket backhoe for the 2210 and showed me a pamphlet on it. I believe he said it was a Canadian company although I didn't pay attention to the name & address at the time. I can get it when I visit them later this week if you're still interested. ....

Yes I would still be interested. I agree with the other comments though and would not want to do anything that would hurt the tractor. It gets delivered this Thu afternoon 26 Jun. I am getting a lot when I have more time will post everything and prices. Big change from not even looking to buying then with all the attachments. My wife questioned the tractor and some of the attachments but never said no. I will be selling a IH Cub Lo-Boy. I am new at this site, seems to give a lot of info. ....

I asked my dealer about this today and he said in no uncertain terms that the use of a back hoe on the 2210 would void the warranty. I would suggest you call or e-mail JD direct for verification. ....

The backhoe info I saw was on a Wallenstein backhoe by EMB Mfg. I've included their link. Their basic product sheet shows 3 backhoe models weighing in at 625, 900 and 1200 lbs - the smallest has to be the one for the small frame tractors.

They show a generic 3-point hitch adapter in their pamphlet but a separate page they handed out my John Deere dealer shows an underslug mount that appears to go forward to the area of the front arm mount for the mower deck. It also looks like it hooks over the lower 3-point mount directly at the rear of the tractor frame. This was shown on a 4100 tractor, not 2210, but they claimed it was in the works so it can't hurt to contact them.

They have a PTO pump kit as an option but I was told they plan to run the hoe off tractor hydraulics with a power beyond valve and that Deere is expected to release a PB valve option for for the 2210, although they haven't yet. I'm not sure what happens in the meantime, possibly an aftermarket PB valve setup?? You might want to ask about this if you get serious because PTO pump option is more $$'s.

I asked about warranty and was told not to expect the factory to cover a tractor broken in half. He went on to say there should be no problem with routine repairs under the Deere warranty.

The broken frame supposedly happened to several early BX Kubota's, prompting development of the BX22 model with reinforced frame for backhoe. I don't want to open "Pandora's Box" here so let me say the 2210 frame is pretty strong; it's made of 3/8" thick steel front-to-rear with a minimum cross section height of 4.5" at the front axle, increasing to 5.5" in front of the FEL mount, increasing again to 6.5" in the vicinity of the leading edge of the rear tires.

Info on the tractor mentions that both front and rear axles are rated at 3,000 lbs so with a basic weight of 1,400 for tractor-only (wet) it's reasonable to think that it can handle a small hoe. Like the Kubota it wouldn't be a commercial contractor tool but should be great for occasional use. The relatively light total weight of any small tractor won't allow you to simply force the bucket into hard ground, and the wider the bucket, the more noticeable this becomes. On the ther hand, once you get started with any dig you're working the bucket against the stabilizers and that helps further anchor the tractor into the ground regardless of the actual tractor weight. ....

It is noteable that the 2210 frame is a two piece lawn and garden style frame and not a solid tractor style frame. It has been my understanding that this is the reason that JD does not make or recommend a backhoe for theese. ....

Psimonson thanks for the info in your note, the web site link did not work though, so if you could provide again. My tractor gets delivered this afternoon. JD 2210, FEL 53", MMM 62", JD 4' bush hog, front blade, snow blower, imax quick hookup, balance box, rear work light, turf tires. Have a rear blade keeping from the Lo-Boy I will be selling. Been waiting awhile for it but still getting it a month before they originally thought.

My dealer also said that should not use a backhoe on this tractor. He said for as little as I would use one just go rent it. He is right, it is just the convenience thing to be able to put one on and do a little digging when you want Vs having to go rent one and pick it up. I am sure that those times would come when you are digging a little then it turns in to more and could tax the machine. I have hard clay not easy to dig. I would still like to get info then wait and see what happens with the 2210 in the future in this regard. ....
