Thanks to all here for sharing their patience and experienced advice with a newbie like me!

After lots of research between Kubota, NH, and Deere I finally decided on the JD 4310 and placed the order this morning. The JD package was the highest price of all of them, but the dealer seems great and is the closest. Kubota was about $400 less but the only decent Kubota dealer I found was 60 miles away. NH was a few thousand less and the dealer was great but I thought the TC33D just didn't have the specs of the other machines (loader specs, weight, etc), although SuperSteer was sure tempting.

The package includes a 4310 MFWD eHydro, loaded R4s, folding ROPS, Spark arrestor kit, I-Match, DSCValves, 3rd, 4th, and 5th SCV, Top and Tilt, 430 loader, 61" heavy duty bucket with cutting edge, BoDozer 5' grapple, MX5 rotary cutter with slip clutch, Frontier medium duty 72" box scraper, parts & service manuals, setup and delivery. The Tim Taylor in me wanted to spring for the 4410 instead, but I couldn't see spending an extra $1525 for three hp.

I don't know how I'll sleep for the three weeks until it's delivered. They better include the hats or the deal is off!

Congrats kwschumm, I know you'll enjoy it.

I do remember a thread you started about the 4xxx electronics long-term viability. What convinced you to go JD? Just curious. I know you asked a lot of questions and was apprehensive about the electronics (which is good). ....

Welcome to the green paint club. It takes a bit of shopping some times but the cheapest price is certainly not always the best deal. enjoy ! ....

Billy, that's a good question. Comparable Kubota tractors like the 3130 have electronic instrument panels and they'd have the same issues. The only electronics in the TC33D seemed to be in the cruise control, but it just didn't have the weight and loader I wanted. Other brands like Branson, Kioti, Century, etc. don't have much of a presence in our area so I discounted those. I guess I figured if all the tractors I wanted had electronics then I'd go with the company that has a reputation for long-term parts availability. The decision was not totally objective either - I really liked the look and feel of the 4310 and the dealer was great so those issues played a big part.

slowrev, it's funny you should mention that. The dealer told me up front that the metal shavings had to be cleaned out at the first service. I guess it's good that they're up front about it, but like everyone else I'd prefer that they clean this stuff out during the manufacturing process.

Congratulations on the new tractor and equipment. Now you are going to need an equipment building to house all of that stuff! ;o) Sounds like you cleaned them out. I am sure you will be very happy with this machine. ....

No kidding Chief. The first job of the tractor will be to clear out and level an area for a new pole barn. I can see how a guy could go broke buying all these toys...

The metal shavings are not that big a deal. That is what the screen and 2 filters are for. Just do the services by the book and she will be fine. ....

My dealer was perfectly up front about this as well. I cant believe any brand is any different. Just pay attention to that first service interval and change the fluids/filters as recommended. ....

Plots ya those are my bird seed feeder bandits. I had a two year old doe camped out all winter who would stand on a pile of corn to get at the bird feeder. she actuall tips the whole thing up with her nose and sticks that tongue out as the seed falls. Lol. The metal shaveings I think are primarily on the hydro models but It seems to me the first service interval is critical on any vehicle, car truck or tractor as there will likely be some metal shaveings dureing break in. ....

Doc, a little off topic, but what else is new.

A few years back I was part of a volunteer group building deer feeders for a joint government/private sector (Federation of Anglers & Hunters mostly)that was building, placing and filling 'deer feeders'. They were basically 5' high, 4' wide bird feeders that were filled with corn donated from seed companies and farmers (me included).

It seems they did some research in conjunction with a local university and discovered that the deer did not like ICY frozen corn compared to DRY frozen corn. The feeders were built with 1" rough cut lumber (slabs donated by a local sawmill) and filled by snowmobile-drawn slieghs. The deer got so tame that when they heard the snowmobile they would come running for dinner, unfortunately, they forgot the sound of an engine before hunt season, oh well.

The point is, if you built a big feeder and put in a place they would get to before anything else, then your feathered friends might get a meal too. Besides, old corn is cheaper than birdseed.

Best of luck. ....

kwschumm -

Can you tell me what a BoDozer 5' grapple is?

Hope you enjoy your 4310!

TimInNH, a picture is worth lots of words - here's a link to it.

Earlier I started a thread about rolling up slash piles. There was some debate on the best tool for the job, with some folks thinking the grapple would be too heavy, others recommending a manure or other type of fork, and still others recommending a 4-in-1 bucket. I wanted something that could roll up slash without picking up a lot of dirt, as well as digging up a bunch of buried construction debris (another story entirely) and this grapple looked like just the ticket. My NH dealer actually recommended it and gave me the phone number to a guy who had one on his TC33D with 7308 loader. I talked to him and he absolutely loved his for doing the exact kinds of things I need to do. With the stronger 430 loader I think I'll be in grapple heaven with this thing. The JD dealer seemed pretty excited to see it, since they've never sold one before.

The NH guy told me it needed one extra valve and hoses for the "thumb" of the grapple. I suppose this would be the same hookup you'd need for a 4-in-1 bucket.

Murf, ya corn is whole lot cheaper, this one would stand in the corn and eat the feeder empty before even thinking about eating the corn. This is my back yard so there wont be any deer feeders here. On my other property it is on the list but I need to have a 12' Stand welded out of water caseing which costs a small fortune for the pipe. I have to do this or the bears just walk off with the 50 gallon drum singing some Disney theeme song as they go. ....

I can't give you exact pricing because it was all bundled together in my package. The NH dealer gave me a line item price for the grapple of $2370 and Kubota told me $2500 but I'm sure they marked it up - you may do better direct, and if you do I'd be interested in what price they give you. Sorry, not sure about the cost of the hydraulics - if you don't already have the valves on your tractor I'd guess maybe $300 for the valve and hoses.
