Has anybody built their own tractor cab? I'm planning on building one soon and am looking for ideas. I think I may frame it out of Uni-strut material. I didn't want to weld it too bad even though I do have a wire feed welder. A lot of that material is galvanized and I don't want to weld that. I thought that if I used Uni-strut and didn't like something I could change it easier.

I will try it this winter to. I tryed to get a soft side from curtis but it wont fit my tractor because the GB loader sets back further than the JD, so there is a clearance problem. I would rather invest $1600 and be done. ....

Ben, I built mine for a JD 750 compact utility tractor. I used 1 in. sq. tube welded together for the framework. Then I pop-riveted "window screen" channels to the framework sides and instead of window screen just insert clear vinyl or plastic. Roofing can be your choice, mine was light gauge metal. I used carpeting to box in around the bottom openings and for a total expense of around $200 including lights, fan, paint and beverage holder it can't be beat. Don't forget to plan for a door or opening of some kind for and entry/exit. ....

I might look through the 8020 material and see if you could construct it from this. It is aluminum channel with a lot of accessories. This material is used in industrial applications. I am sure that it will be less that $1600.

From the number of times that I have to stop and clean off my glasses (with my fingers) when I'm snow blowing in my tractor that has a canopy but no cab, I wonder if wipers front and back might be a good idea? I gave up using a ski mask because the glasses worn underneath just fogged up so I wonder if a defroster also would be good. If so, I wonder how the blower would get warm air. My 35A rated alternator probably would run a blower but likely wouldn't heat much. I do know that Ford offered cabs with hot-water heating in Europe but not N.A. for my 1710 so at least a water pump with ports designed for a heater might be available somewhere.

I think the projects described sound interesting and well worth tackling. I also think that a good cab (or maybe even just an adequate one) for the climate and work I do around here would be more complicated and costly that the projects mentioned.

Hello Again,
Earlier I had stumbled accross this site by pure chance and responded to the tractor cab questions. I would be very pleased to provide pictures (I have a digital camera) or any other info that might help. I only had stumbled upon this site that same day so am completely unfamiliar with it. My question is: Is it possible to post a picture(s) here and how is it done? I just put the tractor cab on two days ago so its ready for snow. It is mainly one piece, attaches at four points on the tractor, goes on and off quite easily using a small hoist under a rafter or similar.
Dana I have your email address and will try to take some pictures and email them to you shortly. Ben, could you provide information or email address and I would be happy to send the same to you also and any others interested in as well. There's always room for improvement and it will be fun to hear your inputs as well.
Thanks,
David ....

North Dakota Dave
I nam looking foward to the pic's. Make sure you get some close ups of the detail aswell. I had a glass man here yesterday, since I want to use 1/4" laminated saftey glass, he uses a rubber strip that well attaches to 1/8" thick metal then the glass can be popped in the seal. if I radius the corners to 2 1/2" the seal well be nonstop and he said it looks better than square corners.
Out side of a removeable door is it nessisary to have windows that open? Keep in mind this is for winter use only. Any one have any comments?

This site doesn't allow uploading of images directly. They can be provided indirectly by using the picture or image links provided on the post screen. What that means is that the images have to be on-line somewhere else. I agree with the policy because images take a lot of space and create a lot of traffic. Large server use charges can result. Besides, if pics are too easy, there's a tendency for a site to turn into something like home slide shows.

I use pictures here by uploading images to default space on my own account. Almost everybody has a default web page through their service providers whether they know it or not. It's fairly simple to replace the default page with one that can provide titles, comments and one or more images. It takes about a half-dozen lines of HTML code and a FTP software for the uploading. The traffic and space resulting from using pictures has always been below my account defaults and there never have been extra charges. Many ISP sites have basic instructions under headings of 'Web Authoring' and tech help is available to get people going. Some HTML editor software have wizards that will do basic site design and write the HTML code.

Guys,
I don't currently support uploading images to the site.

To post an image you need to go to an image posting site like photos.yahoo.com. Become a yahoo member, then upload your photos. Yahoo offers 90MB to each member free.

After you load your photo, you can view a web based --"small size Image" -- version. To get the "address" you put your mouse over the image then right click, find the "http:" address, then copy the address from this dialog box to the "Link URL" page on the Tractorpoint "post a message" screen, thats it, if you do it this way your image will be compressed even if you have not sone so, this will make it load fast for those of us without broadband. ....

Dennis: The Yahoo deal does sound like an easier alternative than my approach, which actually is pretty easy too. One drawback with a personal site is that you can use them for other things and end up spending a lot of time on the site.

Things can get a bit carried away. I ran a test site for our Township Library on my account before transferring it to the Library account. Now it seems like I'm going to be looking for server space and domain names so the Library catalogue can go on-line. Sure hope the CGI search script from the catalogue software company works without much baby-sitting. I'll probably try my own site at distributing my wife's books. Good thing I like learning stuff.

I installed a golf cart cover on my BX 2200 yesterday, this is the finished product, rear view. Total cost $125.00. Not tested yet, waiting for snow, but I think it will keep the snow off me.

If I did the link thing correct this should bring a picture of the project into view.

Tom,

A couple of years ago I visited a dealer that happened to be setting up a TC29D for a nearby village. He had installed a N/H cab (very nice) with wiper and hot water heater/blower. That cab was toasty, I got in it to check it out when it was running outside his shop. They had mounted a N/H snow blower on the front as well, big bucks. ....

I am buying a NH TC-33D or TC-25D, and thinking of putting a cab on it. I am looking at the Cozy Cab, and am wondering if I will find it in the way or too hot in summertime use.

Any thoughts? ....
