I have a JD X300 with a 42 inch mower deck. Recently the rail at the bottom of the deck under the discharge chute has come away and i cant see how it attaches back. There appears to be a slide of some sorts but it is not obvious . I can't find any pictures of it in my manual or you tube as they all show the other side of the deck. I have posted a picture to this site photos as I cant see how to put one with this message. It is under bristan8 pic no. nine in photos menu. If anyone here has a JD mower I would be thankful if you could take a look and let me know how it goes back
regards Brian

Looks like you lost some of the steel that may have had a spot to bolt it. You have to weld something there. Most mower decks do not have anything going across the chute, might have been for a bagging attachment. If you are not bagging I would just cut that piece off, unless you think it gives strength to the mower deck.

Best of luck. ....

Yes i was thinking about removing it myself or at least replacing it with a half inch round bar. I tend to use the mower with the chute cover tied back to allow better cutting and grass ejection in longer grass and also to get closer to objects on that side of the mower.
The down side is that I can hit objects with that bar and the result, as shown, is a broken and fairly bent channel section. With it just removed the blades could hit objects with unfortunate results. The JD mower has , what i consider, to be a design fault in that if the blades hit a hard object such as a stump or stone etc the deck sheet metal in the deck itself distorts and the blades become oriented at an angle and the cut is no longer even. I have had several times to remove the deck and panel beat the sheet metal so the blades spindle is returned to the vertical and the blades cut correctly. A shock absorber would be a good idea.
Consequently I think something needs to be there to protect the blades but I may weld in another stronger bar if i cant reattach the existing channel satisfactorily

Yes looking at again your deck looks like it needs that bar to prevent scalping a rock and wrecking your blade spindle.

Best of luck. ....
