Gator got hot and then would not start. So after a couple days it still would not start. But could jump across and it would start so thought the solinoid was bad.

Put a new one on and still wont start with the key it will start if you jump it across. any suggestions.?

Most bad solenoids will make a rackete becasue they are too weak to pull in to the flywheel.

If you did not hear that racket the solenoid was probably good.

I would look at the switch next. ....

When you say it will not start, do you mean the motor turns over but will not crank up? Or do you mean it will not ever turn over?

If it turns over and will not crank up it could well be a fuel issue. I am not sure the engine on the model you have but our gas gator can be a bear to start at times. Have to be careful how you work the choke and throttle pedal. On ours do not pump the foot throttle or it will not start.

If it will not even turn over: are you sure the solenoid is the correct one, wired back correctly, wires are tight on the post? Check to be sure the battery cable is making connect as they should. This past Saturday had that issue to happen on one of my machines and only way found it was take it to have the battery tested and it was fine. Battery cables can not be making good connection and no sign of acid or such there but try using wire brush or sand paper to clean up the contract areas. Of course do check the switch. ....
