I saw a Gannon Rollover box on a youtube video. It is like a box scraper but with a very interesting innovation. Instead of having a rigid box with removable adjustable scarifiers it has a rotating assembly that you switch by lifting the implement and rotating the scarifiers out of the way.

This in principal sounds like a brilliant idea!

The question is does this ease of change compromise the integrity so that the ease becomes pointless.

Love to hear from anyone who has one before I go searching for one :-(

Thanks!

Believe me the Gannon Scarifiers do not dig in and penetrate the ground, go ahead and try one and you will see what I mean! ....

We have several of them, you need to consider two things before pulling the trigger.

First, they're mechanic roll-over, the operator has to get on & off each time a change is needed. With a 'conventional' box blade with hydraulic scarifiers it's just a flip of the wrist to change positions. In our case it's no big deal because when we need scrarifiers down it's for an extended period of time. In that case the teeth penetrate much deeper because there's nothing limiting the depth of penetration. This is rarely an issue in anything but purely commercial use.

Secondly. they are considerably more money than a typical box blade is.

There is a tiny little other thing you need to bear in mind though, a roll-over blade has a big nasty set of rippers stuck out the back, if you back into something it will not be pretty. A conventional box blade has a flat back.

Best of luck.

I used my brother in laws Gannon Rollover three years ago on a series 3000 JD tractor and it worked good. I could operate the trip lever to roll it over from that tractor seat but if a cab no way of course. Their ground is very rocky and we used it to pull stones that were an issue from the ground so really not trying to rip the soil. Oh yeah, what soil? I really liked the blade based upon how we were using it and frankly that is what I think any tool or implement comes down to, how YOU will be using it. If used, try it first. If new ask who has one that you can go talk to on how it works and they MIGHT be able to show you or even allow you to try it. Don't miss the advice already given, I am sure for their experience they are correct. ....

Hey, So I remembered seeing this post way back when and knew I had to respond soon… but it took me some time -lol.
So I have a 6’ Gannon, hanging on the back of a Mahindra 2615. I use it to fix potholes and grade my 1/2mile lane. I also use it to clear junk (leaves, sticks, etc…) off the land and as a counterweight for firewood service.
I made a video fixing potholes, using all three sides of the unit. Next time I will get some side-ground footage so you can see what it looks like from that angle. But for this video it was just from the top of the ROPS bar, looking down.

As for the Scarifiers digging, they do a great job! Even on hard packed gravel & dirt and yes, you can mess up anything when they are hanging off the back (blade mode).
