Howdy everyone,
I'm a newbie here. Never owned a tractor and looking to buy our first. We run a nonprofit animal rescue and sanctuary out here in east Texas and have 13.5 acres. Mostly pasture land. We need a small tractor to mow it. I was looking at the Yanmar 1500 in the link below, but it seems too good to be true for the price. The hours seem way too low for such an old tractor. Guy says he bought it at an estate auction and has sent multiple pics. Says everything works great and the hour meter does work. I've read a lot on the forum, but this is my first post and I'd like to get ya'll's opinion on it. Thanks for any help!!

Unable to view your attachment. The 1500 Yanmar is a 2 cylinder 15 pto hp grey market tractor. They were manufactured from 1975 through 1979 so they are 40+ years old. Many of them still going out there. Condition of the particular tractor is the key to what is is worth.

Hey there! Thank you to you both for the reply. It appears the link to the ad didn't post. My apologies. The guy was asking $1,900 and the hour meter only had 23 hours on it, which seemed like it was too good to be true. I had heard that these sometimes get remanufactured through Vietnam and was thinking it might be one of those. But the guy sold it today so oh well. I'll still have my eye out. Again thanks for the reply! ....

The hour meter only goes to 999.9 so it could be several different amounts of hours. I can assure you it was more than 23 hours for a 40 year old tractor from the rice fields in Japan. Still could have been a good buy though. Maybe another will come along for you. ....

A little off the subject, what part of east Texas, I'm wanting to do the same thing, there's 120 acres here that I live on and I love rescuing animals, have some raccoons that lost their mother, but also want to have horses or anything that needs a home or to be fostered. I'm a few miles north of Lagrange. I have a Yanmar myself and have rebuilt it from the inside out, but a great tractor, was bought in the mid 80s, is a 336d so I'm familiar with the brand, any parts I need I can get out of Paige TX. Anyway I didn't see the attachment, but I'm sure there's a way you can get a hold of me so I can have a look at it. Have a nice day ....

120 acres is a lot of land for raccoons. You must be one nice person as most look at raccoons as a nuisance.

They are kind cute looking when they are not rummaging through your trash or are rabid !

I have to concede though that I once saved a new born squirrel and brought it to a wild life refuge in a shoe box after nursing it with an eye dropper so they could save it .

Best of luck to you. ....

Raccons are a pest no two ways about it. Some bird lovers invite pests to their homes with bird feeders. One neigbor got routine visits from black bears becuae of a bird feeder.

My sister in law loves birds and has lots of bird feeders that draw racoons and rodents. And then becuase of the rodents she has rattlesnakes in her yard. Still has not put it together that her problem is not the wild life it is her messing around with their hunt for food !

It is hard for animals to find food, so serving it up is an issue. Ask any hunter who is baiting deer to come to a salt lick or a corn drop. ....

I live in an area where much farmland and woods land is becoming houses. But we still have lots of wood and swamp land. Monday was in local hardware/lumber store as some of the rural men were talking about food....the topic was racoons. One told he had sold over 100 this past winter for food. Not sure if trapped or shot.
