Hi All. Am new to this site. My 1979 MF 245, bought used, has learned a new trick. WHen I first start the engine the lift will only work at low idle (< 500 RPM). If I increase the RPMs the lift arms simply drop. Lowering the RPMs wil then cause them to raise again. As the tractor warms up I am able to increase the RPMs to the normal operating range, (1800 - 2250) and the lift will work as it should. The tractor has 2 sets of factory remotes, the aux pump being driven off the main pump, and there is no problem with them. Tractor has been fully serviced, all new fluids / filters. Shut the engine off with the lift raised and it will stay up even with a load. Based on top cover's casting# this is not a pressure controlled system. I have both operator's and service manuals and as near as I can see, this problem is not addressed. Thanks in advance for any thoughts / suggestions.

OOPS! Tractor may or may not be pressure controlled. Not sure how to check. Tractor does not have a dash pot. ....

Problem solved. Even though the hydraulic oil had less than 30 hours since the last change, the strainer was clogged. When the oil was cold not enough could get through to the pump and it would cavitate / loose suction when the engine RPMs were increased, causing the lift arms to drop. As the oil warmed up and thinned out and the gunk on the strainer softened, oil could get through and the lift would function. Drained the oil, cleaned the strainer, and put in new oil and everything is working as it should. ....
