I have the rear tires filled with antifreeze. This sits higher than my jubilee and feels different. I have an area I mow with about a 20 degree slope that has to be done along the slope. The old Ford had no problem, my John deere 345 I have hold to the fender to stay in seat. I haven't tried the Foton yet because I haven't felt comfortable on much of a slope. I know a lot of is the different feel from sitting higher. Larry.

I am always careful on slopes. Make sure it is dry, make sure there is no dew from the morning or early evening.

I make sure not to have a loader on if using a mid mower.

They make grade gauges that can help you identify dangerous grades...but I find that somewhat foolish...I use the "pucker" method.. if it does not feel good I don't do it.

Do you have a ROPS on the foton? If not stay off that grade IMHO.

I've got the roll bar and seatbelt. My insurance man told me they don't cover roll overs. He said if you roll it set it on fire it'll be covered. ha ha. I haven't taken the loader off to see how it feels yet. I was looking and I could swap the wheels around and widen the wheel base. If it doesn't feel comfortable I won't do it. ....

Do you have the option to mow up and down the slope? I would use the seat belt with the roll bar. Per others here the pucker is best gauge out there. ....

The real problem is there is no specific angle of which are in danger. There are many variables which can affect the stability of the tractor.

For instance if you are working at what is normally a safe angle and one wheel drops into a gopher hole you could suddenly shift awake enough to cause a rollover.

Likewise if the tractor starts to slip sideways and suddenly get traction and stops again that sudden change of velocity could be more than enough to cause a rollover.

As was already mentioned your best bet is to work up and down the slope not side slope. If you are bush hogging the best way to do it is to reverse to the top of the hill lower the mower then cut your way down the slope facing forward.

Best of luck. ....

Are you aware that the rear track can be set to 8 different widths? Two different widths for the front. Whereas changing track width won't make the tractor any shorter, it will lower the center of gravity.

Also, I'm not sure about your actual work angle. There is a difference between percent of grade and degree of slope. Click the link below for details.

Up and down would be great but it's not an option. This area is along the drive and I have 15 ft. width to the property line with trees on the property line. I have probably 500 to 600 ft. with about a 20 degree slope (35% angle) and the remaining 1200 ft. isn't too bad. The Jubilee does just fine and maybe the Foton will, but I haven't felt comfortable on lesser angles with it. The Foton width and the Jubilee width are the same. I'm figuring because I sit higher on the Foton it just feels different and I'll get used to it (I Hope). Larry. ....

There are mowers designed for slope work. Meanwhile, I don't see how the loader can hurt, if it's just above the ground.

Maybe you could rig an anti-roll device. Picture an axle bolted to the back of the bucket, maybe angled aft a bit, extending to the downside. Maybe even install a wheel on the lower end. ....

Well I did it and hope I never have to do that again! I had two of my boys hang off the side for extra weight, which gave me an extra 330 lbs. Pulled between a 35 to 40 degree angle around a thousand foot long and made two passes. There was a point where the high side wheels were running an inch or so off the ground. It was as hairy as I care for. Larry. ....

Did you ever widen your track? If not, that would seem a significantly safer method of increasing side hill stability than hanging two boys off the side.

The only way I see to widen it is to reverse the rims. Do you know another way? I haven't used the tractor to mow it yet, I was grading it with the back blade. I used the John Deere 345 to mow it. I've been trying to fix what Duke Energy tore up. I have a 150 ft. stretch I can't do. Duke is suppose to come back and fix it. Larry. ....

Greg;
I how can I widen it? The only way I can see is to swap the rims around. My old ford is easy to change the width but I don't see that option with the foton. My lake property is 25 miles from my home and I don't have any way to support the tractor to swap rims out there. Larry. ....

Greg, I bet his boys would also agree. lol

That degree of slope here is not normal, maybe with bridges and the cutting on the side of them. Know it looks like they mow those running with the slope and as amazing as it is have never seen them being mowed. But some of the mowers they use they run dual rear wheels with (on tractors). You be sure your tires have the correct air pressure for if the down hill tire were to suddenly loose pressure it could be over. Do look into a cutter for cutting slopes. Depending on what you need they are very costly but there are also some light weight units that are not that costly. kt ....

Kt;
Actually the boys didn't mind. I was running in low 1 and they knew all they had to do was let go and I was going to take the ride, now my wife was a different story - she was hot!!! Larry. ....

I bought a backhoe attachment, so this years project will be digging out the north end of the pond and using the dirt to take the slope off the side of the drive. It will be a challenging project, but it will make mowing that 1000ft. stretch along the drive a lot safer. ....

Are you still interested in the roll over degree? Or did you just highjack your own thread :)

Problem with a specific degree measurement is that it all depends on:

-Whats in the FEL?
-Belly mower on or brush hog or rear finish mower?
-Backhoe on?
-Wet ground grass dirt sand gravel?
-Smooth or bumpy?
-hidden potholes?
-speed?

So it all depends!

So for me if I feel uneasy I get off the slope as gently as I can. I have heard it called the Pucker factor and that is the one I go with.

Rolling a tractor can be deadly... be careful. Use your good judgement.
