Recently bought this tractor and the electrical system was disconnected. Friends helped me get it to start, but I have to "jump" start it at the solenoid, as the way it is currently wired the starter switch does not send current to the starter.
We replaced the solenoid but it had only one center post. Diagrams on the internet would suggest I may need one with two center posts. Has anyone worked on this problem?
The system has been converted to a 12 volt system. The problem might be the switch, but before I tear into the transmission box to replace it, it would be nice to know I have the right solenoid.
Any reply would be appreciated. I might add that I am not a mechanic, and live and die on my common sense most of the time. So if you try to explain something, please use terms an "idiot" would understand.
Thanks in advance!

We have a 1958 961 that has been converted to 12v. It is a simple procedure, but I will have to look at to let you know how it was done. I can get back to you later. ....

Wanted to let others know I figured out my wiring problem on my Ford 800. The parts store gave me the wrong selonoid. After purchasing the correct one, problem solved. FYI, not all selonoids work the same way!!!! ....
