I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had any problems with their PTO. Something caused mine to break the bearing casting inside the rearend housing. Very expensive fix. Just wondering if it could be a design flaw in the casting.
Thanks in advance:)

How about you used too long a pto shaft or the third arm was disconnected or adjusted too short and the implement was allowed to jam the pto shaft against the tractor? Don't forget the pto shaft needs to be measured not only at level but full up and down. I ran a mower with third arm disonnected to allow more float and ended up mowing a slope backing up, causing the mower to tilt more than normal and jamming the pto shaft together so no more slip and then into the transmission. Fortunate the damaged to my transmission was minor. ....

I haven't changed my settings. I was mowing on flat ground so I don't think the PTO shaft was the cause. Thanks for your reply. ....

Not saying it had to be that but the pto shaft, have you check to see if it slides freely together? Have you checked to be sure it is short enough not to jam as you lift the mower and lower it? At same time the housing may have been cracked a while and that use was enough to have shook it loose or to have finally cracked it. Of there may have been a problem with your casting or something that totally not thought of. By chance have you loaned your tractor to anyone to do such as rough mowing? When my pto shaft got jammed it did not show up for a couple of uses and took a while for me to think back to what was wrong and trace back what it had been used that could have caused it. ....

Thanks for the response. I'm reasonbly sure that the driveshaft wasn't the cause. The dealer thinks it was locked between the 2 pto speeds. I never use the fast one so I'm not buying that conclusion. But after great expense I will be using it very cautiously. It's a shame because the main reason for buying was all the cast iron used on the tractor. With that said I would still recommend MF because I still think they are one of the best.
