I have about a 95 or so Yanmar F17 and cannont find an air filter with the 5in top on it... There is one online store that has..but is twice the price of a normal filter.. any hints? thanks...

They last long if properly cleaned as needed, are critical to the engine, and some look-alikes fit so loosely they admit unfiltered air. (The width might not matter but it has to be long ebough to seal well.) So it might be worth paying a dealer for the right one. But two mailorder firms with a huge variety are Baldwin and Wix. ....

IU'lll try to check..but onlyll part number i have is from Hoye tractor..and If that is their part number only,, noone else can find it..because i dont have a part number for it.. thats the prob...oh well ....

AND all the parts manuals including on the WIX site do NOT have listed a Yanmar F17.... they have up to F16..and F18 on up.. any hints why this is?? Filter is like the one here but with a five inch top. ....

If you are talking about Hoye's I doubt you will find the correct filter much cheaper. ....

$18 shipping sucks also.. I can get the standard filter without the large top for $22 right here... I feel like just changing out the filter mount.... ....

Grey-market units are not supported by the maker, so owners rely on dealers who use work-arounds to support grays. But some greys are too rare to cater to by dealers or filter makers. (Some rare ones attain mainstream status over the years; others remain orphans.)
In the long run it can be cheaper to replace the housing. (Make sure it fits and is designed for a diesel, and don't let any dirt get in.) As for shipping charges, you can order a full set of filters and often other parts at the same time. ....

I used to be a dealer for Baldwin Filters several years ago. They seemed to have just about any filter there ever was. I'm sure they have a website.
