My gas gauge was stuck on half tank so I took the gas sending unit out of the tank .The old one float arm had come off.I put in a new sending unit and now it shows full and I only put in two gallons and I think the tank is only four or five gallons. I have a 2002 20hp. Agracat.Any ideas. Thanks

2wd fuel capacity is 21 liters, 4wd is 18. There are two electrical grounds associated with the fuel level sending unit. I suspect one of them may be the problem.

I had a pickup truck with the same issue. Turns out they dropped in the unit and turned it just enough so that the float came to rest up against the inside of the tank showing half-full.

I checked the grounds and then put new grounds on and still the same. I pulled the sending unit back out and hooked it up.When I raised the arm up to the full position the gauge was showing empty and in the empty position it was showing full. Any ideas. Thanks ....

So when you manually work the float it gives what looks to be correct reading. That would seem to fit with for some reason the float is not really floating due to it's weight or physically restricted. Or could it not be the right sending unit and the range if off? Trying measuring the depth of the tank and then see if that matches the movement of the sending unit.

Your first message does not say but assume the old one did work at one time and you compared the new one to it for movement and size. ....

Sounding more like the wrong sending unit. So let's get a little more basic here; WHAT exactly did you buy? WHO did you buy it from? WHAT KIND of tractor and SIZE of tank did you tell them it was for?

Plastic fuel tanks and grounding issues seem to go together like taters and gravy. I had several Case farm tractors with plastic tanks, the guages worked for a couple years, same with my 4310 Deere. I don't think it worked for even two years on the 4310. Rather than trying to find the problem the Case tractors and the 4310 Baby Deere, all had tanks that with either a stick or a flashlight you could check the level. Life seems simpler that way.

Of the 4 Chinese tractors I've owned, the fuel tanks are painted steel, strapped with steel bands to steel trays between the steel instrument panel frame and the cast iron engine. I don't think plastic is the problem. That said, paint can act as an insulator. That's why they use two ground wires; I think one is for the tank itself, and the is other for the varistor in the float assembly.

At least they did when I had a couple of those little 200 series Jinmas. At the time they were notorious for leaking fuel where the sending unit attached to the tank. I removed/reinstalled mine more than once to put a decent fuel-resistant gasket in there.

I know at least on automotive (older Ford dump trucks) there is a dropping resistor located on or near the instrument panel that only sends 5 volts to the fuel level system. Perhaps if the CUT has a similar scheme that resistor is bad. Just guessing. ....

The fuel sender on this tractor is finicky. You can bend the float mount to read the proper levels. If it is already floating at correct levels for full and empty you need to check the wound copper wires that are on the bottom of the sender. These wires are engaged by the finger that increases or decreases the signal as it moves up and down on these wound wires. Make sure it is making contact from top to bottom. If not some clever bending can solve this. If it is then you may need a new sender unit. I would be glad to sell you one or answer any questions you may have. Google r&r farm equipment Inc Jonesboro ar 72404. That should give you my number. Thanks josh ....
