MF 471 tractor with cab, 12 forward and 4 reverse speeds is stuck in 1st gear. The high/low range shift lever is not stuck.

How do I access the shift lever forks, without removing cab or fender? I have removed the bolts to the housing, but am not sure how to get the housing off.

Anorthwoods,

Winter can cause all kinds of trouble with our equipment, as you likely know, being from Minnesota.

Before you attempt to tear into your tractor, you may want to get it into a warm shop and let things warm up for a day. It may be that you have a bit of moisture in the gear case, causing ice to form.

If, after warming the tractor up for a day, you still have no movement in the gearbox -- then it'll be time to think about looking into the problem a bit deeper.

If the shifter moves just fine after it's warmed up, you'll want to drain and change the gearbox lube.

Maybe you've already done this??
