Kioti DK 45 will turn over but won't start. It's been parked for about a month. It ran great when I parked it. Anyone have any ideas on where to start.

RS;
I know very little about a Kioti, but I assume it is a diesel engine. All diesels operate on the same principle. You need a fuel injector to put a correct amount fuel into the combustiom chamber at the proper time and enough compression to develop the heat to set it on fire. If you lack either of those things it wont go.
Is there sa fuel shutoff you forgot to turn on?
Does the starter crank it as fast as it normally did?
If there is any smoke from the exhaust, what color is it?
Frank. ....

Yes it's a diesel. It cranks but won't start the battery is new. The exhaust is white until it gets warmed up. No shut off. ....

A month's rest is nothing for a modern diesel.

Electrical? Kiotis have various safety cutoffs, such as under the seat and clutch pedal but I'd think that if they're malfunctioning it wouldn't crank. If the fuel pump is electric, check the fuse.

Battery/starter? A diesel has to spin fast to catch. If there's a decompression control, are you using it to help it do that? Are there other starting aids such as glow plugs?

Fuel? Usually the problem. There must be some kind of cutoff, likely at the filter housing, to check. Then I'd top up the tank and follow the bleeding procedure. ....

Could be issue with the fuel itself such as water in the system or just gunk. If you are not using it often diesel will gel on you. ....

A newish tractor that doesn't like to start now that the weather's turned a little frosty, and it blows white smoke till warm?

The preheat system's on the blink.

Check things like the glow plug relay, I'd put money on it being that or a bad wire/connection/ground in the power to/from the entire glow plug system.

Best of luck.

"If you are not using it often diesel will gel on you."

Good to know because I assumed gelling was caused only by very cold temps. Should I slosh my my fuel tanks around now and then?

Auerbach, I don't know how long diesel with no conditioner takes to gel but it will. Doubt it would say in a few months IF FRESH when bought. My brother caused himself a lot of headaches when he poured some about year old fuel into his tractor.

I bought about 75 gallons the last time I bought more than 20 and had to use about 4 filters on that fuel and pumped it within two weeks. Thank goodness for good pump filter system I have. Good friend of mine who did rebuild diesel injector pumps told me to buy fuel from where they sell fuel. Made sense but he went into detail he meant sells it enough they keep fresh fuel. ....
