I have a tz24da that is 6 years old. I had cruise control put on for my wife to use when mowing. Love the tractor, but the cruise is not working and I would like to know if anyone else has had any problems with the cruise. I replaced the toggle switch thinking it was the problem, still not working.

Could be anything--but have you checked the obvious---fuse, relay, connections? ....

If you hold the switch down it will work, as soon as you take your finger off the switch it stops. That is why I thought it was the switch. I will check all the fuses as soon as I have time to trace them. I have been trying to find an installation manual for the cruise online. Not had any luck so far. Any ideas? Thanks. ....

My cruise control on my TC33D does work that way. It has a lighted rocker switch. Press the ON side of the switch and the cruise engages and a green light comes on in the switch. To turn off the cruise either press the switch OR if you press the left cutting brake (or of the cutting brakes are locked together, just the entire pedal).

The way you describe "holding" the toggle switch doesn't sound right. If it is truly a toggle switch, and a cheap one at that, they go bad. Look at getting a quality, marine, weather-proof (outdoor-rated) rocker switch. About $15-20. ....

My cruise has the same switch,I should of said rocker switch. It is a new holland switch also. Like I said before, as long as it is depressed, the cruise works, but when released it cuts off. I am thinking its a relay, but I haven't located it. If not the relay what other things should I look for? ....

Based on what you're saying and since that switch is suppose to snap into one position or the other----there's no holding it----I'm 99.999999% sure the holding or overcenter springs are broken, or out of whack in the switch. What's NH want for the switch---likely $30? ....

I have already replaced the switch, not the problem. I believe that I have traced it to one of the relays. I called our local dealer, they have to order it. It will be a couple of weeks before I can work on it again. I drive a truck for a living and I'm only home a couple of days every three to four weeks. Will post the results when I get the relays replaced. I went on new hollands sight and got a list of all the parts on the cruise control. ....

Take the relay (I think there may be three or four and probably are the same) and go to a good auto parts. I paid like $6 for one for the skid steer. The relays should be off-the-shelf as they are very common. What did the stealer uhhhh mean dealer want for one? ....

They were closed by the time I had found the correct part numbers, but from past experience from the dealer probably in the range of 8 to 12 dollars. I may try the local NAPA or O'Rielie if it is more than that. I hate electrical problems. They always seem to snowball into something bigger by the time it's all said and done. ....

Update on cruise control problem. I pulled the cover off the transmission cooling fan, pulled the rubber floor mat up and removed the floor plate. I traced the wiring harness from the switch on the fender. On the right side frame to the rear there are two relays, following the wires from there just a couple of inches there is a diode. It has two prongs, one verticle and one horizontal. I checked all of the relays and they are okay. Removed the diode and used a jumper wire and tried the cruise, it worked fine. I checked with my local dealer and he found two different ones but there were no pictures of them, ordered both. When they came in neither were the right ones. Any ideas on a replacement? ....

My skid steer uses those same diodes. I got tired of spending $20 each and decided to take a look at was inside them. I used a pen knife to carefully cut away the diode which is the size of a large grain of rice. Took it to Radio Shack and they had the exat replacement for ----get this two for a dollar!. I bought 3 packs. Anywho, I made a mark on the existing rubber which indicates where the polarized end is ()stripe on diode), snipped out the old one and soldered in the new. I went through about 6 or 7 over the last 5 years. Turns out if a connector somewhere else is bad, it draws too many amps and causes the diode to act like a fuse. Bad relays will also cause this. At one time I was dabbing silicone over the new diode to protect it. But I was blowing so many that I stopped soldering and instead just twisted the leads together and left the connections bare---this worked out good as it made checking for blown ones easy. You have to look verrry closely at them for the slightest cracking open, or puffy look, or smoke indications.

If you go to messicks.com they have the best exploded parts online available and it even shows how many are required and where they are located on the unit. They even have a technician named Les who fields calls for free--he will send you service manual page copies or fax them to you. I buy my parts them even though they're 800 miles away and I have two dealers within 15 miles. ....
