Hi folks, I just bought a massey 250 - [well used] with an alied loader, hydraulics are very slow and weak - almost non existant at low revs.

Measured hydraulic pressure - 300 PSI at idle, and 1400 PSI at full revs.

Is there any way this is something simpler than a worn out hydraulic pump?

thanks for any help

Foggy;
Does the pressure improve when the tractor is cold and weaken after it runs to operating temprature?
Make sure any screens or filters aren't clogged, and the correct fluid is in the system.
I've never owned a Massey tractor, but those symptoms are pretty universal and do usually indicate a worn pump.

thanks hardwood,
I haven't checked the suction screen yet as I think I have to drain the tranny for that, but I did isolate each pump and check output pressures, the lift pump for 3pt reaches 2000 psi at full rmp, and the auxilliary pump only reaches 1400 psi at full rpm,... they each have negligible pressure at low rpm.

I see from the massey parts book that these two pumps share the same intake filter so that is my next project to drain the oil and check - i'm keeping my fingers crossed that that's the problem otherwise I've got a project ahead to fix both pumps

thanks again

Foggy; I hope the screen is your problem, that won't cost much to fix. Do the pumps whine a lot when at full RPM? That can be normal in the winter but in the summer that can also be a sign of a clogged screen.
