I own a John Deere 74 model 300
the coupling that connects the pump to the engine striped out ( the splines) So I bought a new one but it didn't last 4 months. have anyone had any problems like this. trying to figure out whether it is the pump or if I didn't tighten the coupling tight enough.

Sounds like the female splines are bad also.
That is "ASSUMING" your pump has male splines.
You may need to replace the driving end at the same time you replace the driven end.
EDIT I've reread you post a couple more times. It is possible you might have an alignment problem between the two systems. ....

I garee with Harvey. One or both problems will rapidly wear any new parts and continue to wear the old even quicker because there is more new sharp meat to do the cutting.
There is a lot of vibration---two types--at that coupler. One is engine vibration, the other is vibration from the pump gears meshing. Some newer pumps have different sized gears which drastically reduce vibration and noise. ....

Thanks for the advise I am a new member it nice to have a forum to get advise from other people with equipment and I will post a reply once I know what the problem is when I get it fixed But I think some of the things yall mentioned sounds like the problem or problems.
